Are blondes more susceptible to photoaging?

Yes. The lack of skin pigment in blondes and redheads with fair skin leaves the underlying collagen in the skin more susceptible to the sun's damaging rays. While there are individual variations and exceptions, people of Celtic, Scandinavian or northern European descent tend to be the most sensitive to sun damage because they have the least melanin in their skin. People with Mediterranean backgrounds—Italian, Spaniard and Greek—are somewhat less sensitive. People of Asian and Hispanic heritage are moderately sensitive and those of African descent are the least sensitive to sun damage. No matter what your skin type, protect yourself from sun damage by using a sunscreen daily.
