How long hair color lasts depends on how porous the hair is, how much gray it contains, how fast it grows and what hair color was used. The color may fade if it's exposed to sun for long periods and if you use a shampoo that is too harsh. As a rule, hair should be re-colored before there is more than one-half inch of new growth—anywhere from four to six weeks. To protect your hair color, immediately after every color service use a color sealing treatment and always use a color-safe shampoo.
