Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to scrub acne-prone skin with harsh soaps or abrasive cleansers. Scrubbing can irritate your skin and cause acne to worsen. Gentle cleansing should be done with a mild, soapless cleanser. Wash with the finger tips and use lukewarm rather than hot water. Don't overdo it. Cleansing twice a day is adequate. Follow with a mild, medicated acne treatment product to help rid your skin of present pimples and prevent break-outs. If your skin is particularly sensitive or your acne is severe, consult a dermatologist.
