Rated 5 out of 5 by Clairol BW2 Powder Lightener I've been using this item for years -- perfect every time. August 12, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Ambivalent I was initially using quick blue to bleach my hair. I foolishly decided to look for a 'better' brand. So I tried this. It worked okay, but barely lifted my already bleached and dyed hair (Manic Panic Rockabilly Blue). This color is notoriously difficult to get out, however Quick Blue lifted it very quickly, whereas BW2 just got it to a light blue verging on green. When applied to roots, it got to a yellow-orange, which is good considering I have black, african-american hair. With a second application, you can get it to a desirable blonde (same with quick blue). I'm not sure if it's the case for all colors on the manic panic brand, or semi-permanent dyes in general, but for my specific case, bw2 did not perform well for the color. Do a strand test! Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product Have used this product before. Wasnt expecting such a large container. That was a nice surprise. Does the job well!! June 4, 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by High Lift This is great for people who have medium brown hair and want a high lifting shade. This lifted my roots from medium brown (around a level 5) to platinum with a 40 volume developer. (maybe i should have used a 30) April 24, 2010

i have light to medium brown hair(around a level 4-5 on the color chart). i use this and ion's sensitive scalp cream developer 30 Vol. i leave it on for about 35 minutes.

i used to use beyond the zone's bleach kit which came with 40 vol and even though you aren't supposed to use 40 on-scalp, the directions in that kit said it was ok. i used it for a long time, a couple years. and the last time i used it it burned my skin.

i stopped bleaching at all after that, until about 6 months ago. a employee at sally's suggested ion's sensitive scalp and BW2 and it actually lifts faster than the 40 vol in beyond the zone's kit.

it smells better and doesn't irritate my scalp at all. you may or may not need to bleach again. it depends on what level color level you're at now. one application of this could lift 3, maybe 4 levels. to get to 10 (which you MUST reach in order to have platinum hair) you can bank on rebleaching.

also get a bottle of 20 vol and a bottle of wella charm T18 toner. "lightest ash blonde"
