SallyCares Shelter Program
Domestic abuse is a social problem that reaches into all levels of society. It is frightening to note that in this country, a woman is beaten every 15 seconds.
Led by Ernie McCraw, a licensed cosmetologist and Director of Beauty Education for Sally, and assisted by his wife Barbara, the SallyCares Shelter Program is dedicated to helping women who have suffered the horror of domestic abuse and have found refuge in shelters across the country. Women and their children often come to these shelters with little more than the clothes they are wearing. The shelters receive little government assistance and rely heavily on private contribution. They are in constant need of donations in the form of time, money and goods.
The SallyCares Shelter Program supplies regular shipments of grooming and beauty products generously donated by Sally vendors to over 40 women's shelters nationwide. This program relies heavily upon the help of employee volunteers and beauty industry supporters who provide assistance with products and shipping.
SallyCares Seminars
SallyCares Seminars began in 1998 to help women in need feel more comfortable and prepared when entering or re-entering the job market.
Recognizing that a woman’s self-esteem is enhanced by feelings of well-being, control and personal success, SallyCares Seminars are designed to help women re-gain some of their self-confidence by helping them feel and look their best. These programs, conducted on site at shelters and youth centers by volunteer hair stylists and makeup artists, feature tips on appropriate hair care and styling, nail care, make-up, skin care and grooming for the workplace.
For women in shelters or young women at risk who are trying to enter the job market or an educational institution, the self-esteem that results from having confidence in one’s appearance is an important tool for success.
Breast Cancer Support
Under the SallyCares umbrella, Sally Beauty Supply also supportsbreast cancer research. Sally recognizes this as a major concern of customers, employees and salon clients. Sally Beauty's contributions, now more than $1 million, fund breast cancer research at the City of Hope.
