What is the difference between acetone and non-acetone nail polish remover? Which is best?

Acetone is a powerful solvent that removes nail polish quickly and easily, but can be drying to the cuticles. Non-acetone polish removers contain ethyl acetate or methyl ethyl keytone as their active ingredient. They are gentler on skin and were developed for use with nail extensions because acetone can cause extensions to become brittle and "lift." Non-acetone is less effective for removing nail polish than acetone. Acetone is also effective for removing oils and preparing the nails for polish. To use acetone safely on natural nails, use a cotton swab and avoid the cuticles. Keep in mind that acetone can also eat through certain type of latex/disposable gloves.
