Why does the primer burn sometimes, and how can it be stopped?

Sometimes primer may cause a burning sensation if too much is applied to nails which have recently been in strong cleaning solutions, have had nail extensions removed incorrectly, or have very thin, sensitive nail beds. First, determine if the actual nail bed is burning or if it is the cuticle area around the nail. It is important to understand that the burning is caused because most primers contain acid. If the nail bed is burning, the nail technician may apply an antiseptic to the nail and may consider discontinuing the use of primer during future nail services. If the cuticle area is burning, then it may be neutralized with an over-the-counter antacid product. Remember, primer should be used VERY SPARINGLY. It is very easy to apply too much and have it run onto the surrounding cuticle area.
