Additional Information

  • Gently cleanses hair and scalp
  • Removes product residue
  • Preserve moisture

As I Am Coconut CoWash is the way to cleanse your hair most of the time. This light no-suds conditioning cream gently spreads easily throughout your hair and removes residue including all of the things you've used to style and maintain your coils and curls.

Coconut Cowash is different from any other because it contains a special blend of natural ingredients that work to promote healthy hair growth from the follicular level. Maintains moisture, adds more moisture and helps hair retain moisture until your next cleanse.

Makes detangling a breeze and rinses easily from hair. Gentle enough for daily use and is safe for color-treated hair.

"I recently used the Coconut Co-Wash by "As I Am" and I am very pleased with the results. I applied the product once all over my hair and combed  it through, then rinsed it out. It left my hair bouncy, soft, and tangle free. Enjoy!"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My hair is growing for the first time in years Came in looking for a good conditioner and walked out with this product. It has changed my life. I suffer from a thyroid issue which caused my hair to thin out and for the first time in years, my hair is finally starting to grow back thicker. Will never go back to regular shampoos. This is worth every penny. I've only been using it for 2 months and everyone is noticing the results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Left my hair dry!! I tried this on my 3c/4a THICK hair expecting it not to behave like shampoo but still clean my hair... My hair was dry and very unmanageable afterwards. I thought it was another product I used and tried it again the next wash only to get the same result. My hair took about twice the time to detangle than normal for about 4 washes after and I had to deep condition a bit more than usual to get my usual soft hair back... Does not work on my hair or my mom's (she claimed it did the same).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product! This was my first purchase. I like the cleansing power and the 'slip' that this item provides. It makes it very easy to wash my hair and detangle with one product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but formula may have changed recently! I want to mention first that my experience is mainly based off a container of this that was purchased a year or so ago, and the most recent one I bought acted a bit differently on my hair. I mention more at the end of my review. I purchased a container of this about two years ago, after listening to both my mother and sister-in-law rave about it. We are all Caucasian with straight hair - my mom's is thicker and she has a lot of it and my sister-in-law's is fine and thin. I have fine hair but a lot of it, so it appears thicker. Reading the info on it, I was a bit hesitant to use this because it seemed better suited for those with thicker dry hair. I, on the other hand, have super oily hair/scalp. I wash my hair daily because when I don't, it's a greasy mess, and I'm barely OK with using dry shampoo on second day hair and putting it up into a bun. However, this pleasantly surprised me. The consistency is a bit of a mix between half melted coconut oil and normal conditioner. Imagine mixing those two and that's basically what this is like. It also has a wonderful coconut scent to it that's light and shouldn't bother even those with sensitivities to scents, though it does linger a bit after it dries. I love it, personally, as it’s very soft and you only smell it if you put your hair up close to your nose. You apply this after you’ve wet your hair thoroughly, by dipping your hand into the container and basically smearing it everywhere. I would say I use maybe a small handful of this per shower. The trick is to get a small amount and work it into an area, then get another dip, etc. I work from the top of my scalp, to the sides and then at the back, making sure I really massage it into my scalp. I run any leftovers down the ends and then go over my whole scalp to work it in one last time, before taking a wide-tooth comb and gently running it through. I can’t stress GENTLY enough. I start at the very tips and work my way up slowly, until everything is combed. I then rinse it out in lukewarm, massaging as I go, until it’s all gone. I used this for about 2 weeks in a row at one point and didn’t have any issues with buildup or my hair becoming limp, which is impressive for me, as my hair is board straight and tends to do that. My hair is silky soft and clean after it’s finished drying and I never had any issues with it tangling up, in the shower or after, as long as I combed it well. I will say that the latest container I purchased seems to be a bit different. I’m unsure if there has been a formula change, but it left my hair a little greasy-feeling. It could be that I already had too much buildup in my hair, but I just wanted to mention this in case something has changed.

Is this used in place of shampoo

Asked by: Grammy71
Yes. It is my understanding that every once in a while we ought to use a real shampoo.. and I do, but only use non-sulfate shampoo.  However As I Am Coconut CoWash is wonderful .. I use it all the time and it works  very well for cleansing and leaves my hair very clean- yet not dried out.  My own hair is  curly 3A/3B, long, dry and fly-away.It curls up naturally to tight  curls and waves .  It looks thicker than it is because it puffs up and out without conditioner. But this co-wash makes it a lot less puffy-frizzy.  I detangle  in shower after letting it sit on my hair a minute or two. :-)

Do I use this product after shampooing my hair or before ? Also do I have to use conditioner after using it ? How many times a weak should I apply it ?

Asked by: Eliboyd1
You use this product as a shampoo and conditioner. The cowash replaces shampoo and conditioner, you only need to use the cowash and no other shampoo or conditioner. Use it as often as you'd wash your hair.

Approximately how long would one container last for someone with long hair (approx. 18 inches) using it every other day?

I exercise almost every day and want an alternative to daily shampooing. I'm told I have thick hair (I think referring to density, with medium coarseness). I want to try co-washing with intermittent shampooing days, but I'm worried a 'liberal' amount for long hair would go through a container too quickly.

At least 3 weeks at the max.

Can this product be used on non ethnic hair?

Asked by: Anonymous
I think any of their products could be used in any type of hair, ethnic or not. Naturally straight, or "Caucasian" curly hair should be able to use these products. I would think the main thing to consider for hair that isn't "type 4" would be to consider how humidty or oils affect your hair. The only product on the line that I've tried which seems to contain oils that are evident is the "Twist Out Cream". Ethnic hair products really are for anyone, as much as people like me (black) have used over the counter products that weren't designed with my (type 4) hair in mind, for ages.

Why is sulfate free products needed for natural hair?

Asked by: Anonymous
Sulfate free products are needed for natural hair because the salt component of a hair product will strip the kinky/curly/coily strands of any natural oils and moisture. Sebum of natural hair has a hard time making its way from the scalp to the tips of the hair because of the many bends so holding on to as much moisture as possible when being washed and handled.
