Advanced Gray Solution Semi Permanent Hair Color is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warning! Supposedly this works on gray hair, probably depends. Gray comes in so very many shades: battle-ship gray down to white. My hair was solid white gray. . January 2017, I used the "golden chestnut" and I did not get golden chestnut, I got really bright intense RED. After a few shampoos, the color was orangey red, then orange, then bright strawberry blonde, now in June 2017 it is a dull strawberry blonde with two inch solid white gray roots. I used two applications recommended by Sally's Beauty. Called Clairol and was told not to use a shampoo with any type of conditioner, use strong shampoo, buy the cheapest dish soap at a dollar store and use it. Did all of the above for three months before putting any conditioner in my hair. Now it is a dried-out frizzy, dull strawberry blonde its white roots.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Black Clairol Semi Permanent Hair Color good The products, hair dyes, are excellent. I have used them before. However, I received them in torn and damaged boxes as if they have been returned by other customers. Some of the bottles had masking tape around them which makes me think they were returned. I hope they have not been used.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as good as Radiance The color fades very quickly -- it lasts only about 2/3 as long as Radiance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best thing ever for roots! I have medium brown hair with a little gray (for 50 years old). Because of my hair color, it shows a lot at the part and I particularly hate that I have it at my temples. I use demi-permanent color about every 6-8 weeks and I use this product at about the 3rd (and sometimes again on the 5th/6th week), when my roots start to show. I use this product along my part line and around my face to cover the gray as it grows out in those areas. Since I have blondish highlights, I have tried using a lighter shade than my natural color, but going a shade darker works better for me, since my roots are naturally a little darker. I just apply this product to that one inch (or less) along my hair line (around my face) and on the hair right around my part and it covers the grey that has come in. I do leave it on longer than recommended, but this is a very mild product, so no problem with that. This product lets me use the more serious chemical product (the demi-permanent) much less frequently. I absolutely love this product! I put it on my hair as described, I cover with a supermarket bag (just so that I don't ruin my house/clothing), and work around the house or exercise for a bit. After about 3/4th the time, I push/spread the color down a little (I just push against he plastic bag to move the color down the hair shaft) so that I don't get a line. That's what I do. I hope my amateurish (supermarket bag) method doesn't offend the professionals, but I have great results and have been using this along with the demi permanent for quite a while. Try it! Start light—you can always go darker!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good price, nice color. I bought this for subtle grey coverage knowing it would fade. I normally am not too concerned about grey hairs. I am 42 and don't have many, but I have enough that they are starting to stick out and frizz up. My aging dark brown hair looks dry and lighter in color than it normally was, giving it a washed out appearance because of the grey. I was going to just let my hair go grey and when it was well under way, I was going to heavily frost it and use a toner since the silver trend is in, even for young people. I'm not ready to give up my dark hair and not enough greys are in, but I did NOT want to use a permanent dye on my natural hair. I cannot stand the way any kind of permanent colorant feels on my hair. It is not merely because it is dry. "People say "You just need a good conditioner". The texture is actually okay while my hair is dry. It is when it is wet that I cannot stand the feel of permanent colorant in my hair. t sticks together and it is hard to shampoo... feels like doll hair. I have gone very, very short numerous times after being compelled to cut the dye out of my hair. Thus, I opted for a semipermanent for photos and times I want to go somewhere. It looked great but the walnut was a little warm, and far from being too dark. This is why I also ordered the espresso. I will try that next. It did cover the grey but started fading after just a couple of washes. After a few weeks the color has not completely faded except on most of the grey, but if I wanted to dress up or something, I would need to reapply. Some of the grey is still more subtle than it was, but the best day was the first day after application and I just wish that lasted a bit longer. The feel, the texture... is fine. My hair still feels quite natural. Again, it looked great. The smell is not bad. It's very convenient for root touch ups, the top of the head, etc.... without doing a full dye job, so the commitment is not huge. For pictures or a night out, this serves it's purpose, but it is very hard to hide grey. I am not displeased, and for a bargain, I still have many applications because of the sale. My hair had no colorant on it whatsoever. I have dyed and bleached my hair (long) before, and although bleaching dries the hair, nothing feels as plastic-like as permanent colorant, to me. I will continue using these bottles, which are very convenient for a quick color refresher. I left it on longer than instructed with no adverse effects. You can't use something like this to go lighter, but to enrich your color or try a shade darker, it's worth a go without the risks. I would have given it five stars if I could have been grey-free for at least 4 washes. Maybe others will have longer results and maybe as I reapply I will have longer lasting results if it has any accumulative effects. All in all, I'm certainly glad I bought it and have something to reach for a quick touch up any time I want to look especially nice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice product but didn't cover my greys The re owes said it blends away greys but that wasn't my experience. Tried it twice on my brownroots with 40% grey and no coverage. Left it in an hour the second time. Nice product if you want to add some colour and shine but not for grey on my hair

How you used this hair color

Asked by: Miss D M R
Shampoo hair first towel dry. Apply hair color while hair is still damp! Wait 30 minutes or more to virgin gray roots, and then apply to rest of the hair for about 5 to 10 minutes! Rinse with water only then apply conditioner! Style!

Yes, these bottles are already complete. No peroxide needed. Just add a little time and patience and your gray will be  beautifully covered in no time. Read instructions thoroughly before you begin.

What color you recommend that covers grey hairs?

Asked by: Hairoool
All colors cover gray but its looks best if you choose color closest to your original natural color.

I have all white hair coming in. I am tired of dying (medium golden brown) as the white roots show up (within a week!) and am ready to transition to my natural white. Would you recommend using this product for such a transition?

Asked by: ReadytoGoGray
Just like you, I had grey roots within 2 weeks of coloring my hair. I got advice from a professional and I took a path of "reverse" coloring. I got a cap at Sally's and pulled hair through to achieve streaks using a very very light color, almost blonde. This allowed the dark line to become softer as my hair grew. My hair grows quickly, I was into all grey in 10 months.
