Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Brights Clear Shade Diluter can be added to any Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent brights to create a soft, subdued shade perfect for multidimensional effects. In 20 to 40 minutes Ion Color Brilliance Brights deposits color on pre-bleached natural or color treated hair. Brights can be applied to pre-lightened hair, color treated hair, or natural.
Add 2 oz of Clear Shade Diluter to 1/4 oz of any Ion Color Brilliance brights shade. Strand test every 5-10 minutes. After processing is completed, thoroughly rinse and apply Ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock color deep inside the hair.
Tips for maintaining the longevity of contemporary hair colors:
Shampoo less frequently. Try a sulfate free or dry shampoo, which is much less aggressive on contemporary pigments.
Use a shampoo pH balanced for maintaining color treated hair. For example, a clarifying shampoo will tend to dull the intensity or vibrancy of these pigments.
Weekly moisturizing treatments and daily leave in conditioners are a must for pre-lightened hair.
Hair that has been pre-lightened is more fragile and care should be taken when wet. Use a comb instead of a vent brush to remove tangles.

Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Brights Clear Shade Diluter 5 5 2 2
much better than conditioner I was playing with several shades for a few weeks to see what was going to be my new go to color and whether I could be 'ballsy' enough to be a 34 year old mother of two with pink, bue, and/or purple hair. When I first started I used conditioner to dilute the color brilliance colors (which are super thick and difficult to work with). The results were patchy and didn't take evenly. The colors undiluted are also patchy since they are so difficult to work with. The shade diluter made the colors much easier to work with and provided a much more even coverage. I also had more of a pastel from day one instead of the next day. My color also seems to have lasted longer, but I used the diluter with a different shade (rose instead of flamingo) so that may have something to do with it. Highly recommend the diluter if you are going to play with these colors. July 9, 2015
Made my Lilac perfect! This product diluted the Lavender dye to the the exact colour I wanted to ombre my blonde extensions and it was so easy to replicate the exact same colour when needed without measuring. It is an absolutely fantastic product and I would recommend this to anyone using the Ion Brilliance colours to achieve the exact shade they desire. December 17, 2013

Like my hair is already dyed and it's too bright... So what if I just put this shade diluter in my hair? What then?

A:
The diluter won't do anything to your applied color. If you are using Ion Color brilliance, the colors start to fade (even before washing) within 24 hours. Not sure how much lighter you are needing, but the colors also fade considerably in the sun, in the shower (especially if you use a non-colorsafe shampoo and conditioner or dandruff shampoo), and over a few days. You could also use a teaspoon of baking soda + shampoo to strip your hair for major color removal, but make sure you rinse with apple cider vinegar+water to restore your hair's ph. You may want to go over it with a lighter color after stripping and waiting for a week. I used shark blue which was way darker than i wanted and doesn't fade well. It began to fade immediately (lighter the next morning without washing) and dandruff shampoo took out a bunch. I then went over it with the rose color (in desperation, hoping some color would lay down over it) and got a great multi-tonal lavender. Hope this helps!
