Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3NN Intense Dark Brown First off - this hair color is really black brown/natural black. It should be a 2N. My hair before was faded red with about 1/4 inch virgin hair. No hot roots and it easily covered my red hair without any hint of red undertones. For slightly below shoulder length hair, I needed 1.5 tubes of color. I also used a 20 creme volume developer. My hair is incredibly shiny and it didn't have a smell as much as other color products. It was much more liquidy then I would have preferred. I started out using a brush but then I said forget it and just used my hands covered in latex gloves. Worked just fine. The color didn't run either while it was processing. Overall for $8 for the color, yeah it is worth trying. Just be cautious as the NN brunette shades are 2 shades darker than explained on the bottle. Even the swatch was browner than what turned out being applied to very light colored previously colored hair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I've used Darkest Intense Brown several times and have been pleased with the results. Yes, it takes a little longer to mix, but what else is there to complain about? You'll know when it's mixed well because the scent will change to a more classic scent and less like the parfum in it. This applies as a nice cream and does not drip at all. Where it goes it stays, so be careful of it getting on your skin. You can use a plastic whisk to mix it, but never use metal with chemicals. The color is rich and it's less damaging than most color. Overall I think Ion Intense Neutrals are really good and one of the best they sell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Medium Intense Brown This does come out darker than I'd expect, but it is close to my (formerly) natural dark brown hair. I'm probably 80% gray, and the coverage is excellent. My hair is very resistant gray, so I use this color with Grey Magic and leave it on for an hour. There is very little fade. The Ion products also smell less than many others, which is nice for those of us who can have headaches and asthma attacks from such things.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works a little too well This was really nice to my hair (which is damaged from other coloring). I was trying to match my original color (neutral light brown/dark blonde), but my hair turned a really dark brown using this. Eventually faded a little, but not much. I recommend buying a couple shades lighter than what you're aiming for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product I have been coloring my hair for 35 years and have tried everything there is. To those with negative reviews, if you expect high end perfection then pay the price at the salon. Operator error is a factor in color not coming out right. If you do not know what color to use with your hair situation then you are the only one to fault. I have tried all the Sally brands and this is the ONLY one that covers my all gray roots without drying them out. When applied to all my hair it is still NON drying to ends!! My hair comes out beautifully colored and soft. I have seen on the other ION color that people complained it was "hard" to get out of the tube and mix. Seriously? What kind of people whine about that? The consistency is excellent once mixed. Buy a key to get the product out and buy the tiny whisk to mix it. It's not rocket science.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it! I use the 2NN Darkest Intense Brown. the color is really dark at first, looks like a soft black. after a few washes it fades a bit so it looks dark brown under good light. it also leaves my hair super soft and healthy feeling, better boxed brands i had used in the past

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty darn good if you ask me! I have been dying my hair myself for over 12 years now and ion is one of my favorite products to use. Yes, it comes out darker than you would probably expect at first, but it fades to the correct shade within 2-3 washes. Then it's fabulous for months until you decide to dye again. Unlike other dyes which look great day 1, but then fade right away and end up all wrong. I started using Ion because a few months ago I used Argan Oil hair dye to try and get a medium natural blonde (lightening a shade or two from my natural dark blonde hair color. Well, Argan Oil is AWFUL and the Natural Medium Blonde turned my hair orange. So I bought ion liquid light neutral brown to darken and tone down my hair. It turned out sooo good! Yes, it was super dark at first (dark brunette color), but faded to be pretty darn close to my natural medium/dark blonde. My roots have grown out so I went back to get more dye and decided to try the intense collection. I got Intense Dark Blonde creme. Again, it came out too dark (looks light to medium brown), but I know it will fade and look how I want by the end of the week. Next time I'm going to try medium blonde. Anyway, the best part is my hair feels soft and looks shiny. No breakage at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TERRIBLE I had bleached blonde hair awhile ago and have since dyed over it with 3 brown dyes just because I kept wanting it darker (using a red filler beforehand of course), and I understand that you're not supposed to put ash over ash... Which is why I decided on the neutral collection because I was afraid my faded, almost dirty blonde hair wouldn't have enough warmth in it to use an ash based dye. However it looked very gold and orange in some spots so I didn't want to use a warm dye because I was afraid it would turn out too warm... So I decided on the dark neutral brown. Well... It turned BLACK. And not just black. In the light it looked extremely bright bluish purple. Since when are blue and purple neutral??? So I thought, okay, I'll just shampoo it a bunch and soak it in lemon juice to at least get out the blue and purple. Nope. It just turned a gross gray color. Not impressed. And I only kept the dye in my hair for a minute at the MOST before it was stained with the hideous color. Hopefully I'll be able to fade it out and buy a different dye to cover up this mess. It might work better on virgin hair but I wouldn't even risk it.

How many boxes?

My hair length is at my waist area and I have thick hair. How many boxes should I purchase for my entire hair?
Asked by: Jaymie
I'd buy 5 boxes as I used 1.5 tubes for just below shoulder length fine hair.
