Ardell Gray Magic is a unique way to cover resistant gray hair, and bring vibrancy and intensity to ALL hair color.

Gray Magic Color Additive can be added to ANY color formula to achieve vibrant color and exceptional gray coverage. Formulated to help hair color penetrate deeper into cortex. Is also great for toning down ash (green) tones. Adds "punch" to red hair color formulations and helps to alleviate chlorine discolorations.

Gray Magic work works because gray hair is the result of the loss of red and yellow color pigment. Gray Magic adds concentrate red and yellow with wetting agents to replace the lost color pigment and moisture, to 'lock-in' hair color. When added to shampoos or conditioners, will prevent fading and oxidtation for tinted red or warm colors (10 drops per ounce of shampoo or conditioner).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dont buy the small package get the dropper bottle this stuff is amazing but I have used the small packaged and you really want to trust the directions because that will make it work or not. I have gray hair around my hair line that will not color unless I use this. This helps so I don't have to color every two week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from really awesome product Being a stylist I am not used to using additives in my color but I tried this and I love it. It covers grey really well and I have very stubborn grey. I recommend this to anyone with this. If you use it right and leave it on the allotted time it works just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Gray Coverage I have dark brown hair white an unfortunate section of VERY color-resistant white hair. I had been going to a stylist, but even she couldn't get it completely covered. I decided to try myself and pulled out all the stops. I can't say for certain that this Gray Magic did anything, since I didn't try the same process without it, but I can say I am so pleased with the end results, that I will continue to use it and follow the same process. Here is what I did: Washed my hair with Ion Color Defense Clarifying Shampoo (no conditioner) Towel dried and combed through Applied 1oz of Colorful Neutral Protein Filler using Roots Only Comb Applicator Bottle Waited 20 minutes Towel dried and combed through again Applied Vaseline as a barrier cream around face Mixed 1oz Wella Color Charm Liquid Permanent Dye 4NN with 2oz Wella Color Charm Liquid Clear Developer 20 volume and 10 drops Ardell Gray Magic Color Additive Wearing gloves, applied to roots using Roots Only Comb Applicator Bottle and then lathered into ends Waited 45 minutes Added a small amount of water, lathered and then rinsed until water ran clear Shampooed and conditioned as normal Perfection!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No gray coverage at all The grays at my temples were just as obvious with this product as without. So, a waste of money. Just found No Gray (another additive) and 100% gray coverage! woot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I have been coloring my hair (covering the gray) for about 10 years. In the last few months, my grays have become very stubborn and resistant to color, no matter what brand of color I used or how long I left the color on. Searched online and bought Gray Magic at Sally after reading the reviews. Used it last night with "drugstore" color and it made SUCH a difference! I purchased the small bottle, rather than the packet that is seen here. It was on sale and I'll have plenty of product for another 4 or 5 colorings, at least. I followed the package directions and mixed a 1-to-1 solution of color and developer, adding 5 drops of the Gray Magic. Yes, it does stain your fingers orange, so put your gloves on when you are ready to add it to the 1-to-1 solution. (However the stain came off after a few hand-washings.) I, too, was apprehensive when the "tint" solution turned orange, but went ahead and painted it on the areas where I have my most stubborn grays (crown and the part in my hair). Then I mixed the remainder of the color and developer, adding 20 drops of Gray Magic. It turned orange too, but after a bit, the color normalized. I applied this mixture to the rest of the hair at the root level on my crown, the more resistant hair on my head. Waited 30 minutes and applied the remaining mixture to the rest of my hair so that the color would be even. The verdict - complete coverage of the gray!! I could see a slight color gradient between the tinted resistant root area and the rest of the hair, but nothing I will complain about. I used a cooler shade of color to compensate for the red tones that other reviewers mentioned. Gray Magic is MAGIC in a bottle!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from stubborn grays be gone with gray magic!! i dye my dark brown hair black, and sometimes drugstore colors dont cover stubborn grays at all or enough, so that they are still gray after coloring or come out lighter then the hairs around 'em and just don't look right. that's where gray magic comes in and covers em everytime for even, dark, youthful color. the bottle could be a little bigger but i usually get two if there's a bogo sale because i apply it with weekly touch ups :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I used this with a clairol hair color and it seriously covered these stubborn grays of mine....i used black dye and my edges(where it is very difficult to color) very black...I added this to my dye 20 drops and it did turn my dye an orangey color..so i was definitely worried but the outcome was fantastic...i don;t have the package ones the other reviews are talking about i have a little 7ml/0.25 container...i think i got this at the checkout counter with stuff on sale....I will definitely purchase more of this... also saying this...it does seriously stain one's skin....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product I ever purchased! Purchased this as I was having a hard time covering my gray. Was concerned when I added it to the mix as it turned orange. My hair now has a orange/copper tint. Its horrible! Even after highlighting and recoloring its still there!! Just looked it up online and it seems everyone else is saying the same thing as well.

Can I do the grey color on brown and grey I have now? with bleashing?

Asked by: Blanca S Torres
I don't know what 'bleashing' is (bleaching?), but this works in any semi-permanent or permanent haircolor.

Can this be used with just the developer and no color?  Thx

Asked by: RoseC123
Hello, and thank you for your question. Ardell Gray Magic is a hair color additive, we wouldn't suggest using it without hair color as the directions say to use ten drops for every ounce of hair color.

I want to dye my hair a silver/ gray. What do I use?

Asked by: NatalieStriegel
If your hair is dark you will have to bleach it to get the dark out and then put a secondary color of which ever shade of gray/silver you choose. Color Magic is great for patrons trying to cover their gray hair. I have never used it for silver/gray hair application. If your hair is very light in color then you should be able to apply the silver/gray color of your choice directly to your hair. I hope this helps with your question. Have a great day.

I have a sachet of color additive. Do I mix it with my hair colorant before applying to hair

Asked by: Ireney
Yes, that's what it says to do on the packaging. This stuff turned my hair green, so I personally don't recommend it, but to answer your question, yes, you do add it to your color mix before putting on your hair

Can it be used with bleach

Asked by: Barb
It says on the package that it can be used with any hair coloring product, but doesn't list bleach specifically. I mixed it with a plum brown I had bought and it turned my hair green, so I personally don't recommend it to anyone, but my result might not be your result. I usually bleach my hair platinum blonde during the summer, and color it darker in the fall and winter months, and after I seen the emerald green it turned my hair, I had actually told my husband I was so glad I didn't use it with the bleach because I could only imagine the color I would've got then. It turned the color mix a rust color, which I thought was odd, it's a very dark reddish brown when it comes out of the package, so I'm not sure you'd actually get the blonde color you desire putting something so dark in with the mix. Best of luck!

Will this product add warmth to my naturally medium ash brown hair? I'm trying to go warmer and maybe even 1 shade darker than my current color, but I don't want to turn my hair orange. Also, I'm only interested in products that are free of animal cruelty

Asked by: Jwmadera83

I will be using a no-lye condition creme relaxer kit and Clairol Beautiful Collection advanced gray solutions semi-permanent hair color. Since Gray Magic contains  Ammonium Hydroxide will it cause hair damage.
