This made my hair darker - not for blondes My hair was a 7 or 8 and I used 20 vol and 9N and my hair was a pretty color, but looked more like a level 7 than a level 9, which obviously was my goal. The second time around I had also bought 10N with 30 vol and did a patch test and this combo would not lift my color at all. I normally have very easy hair to dye and have never had a problem getting my hair very light with Loreal, Revlon, etc. In fact, I normally have to be careful because my hair gets bleached too easily and I often inadvertently end up with platinum locks. This brand's color chart is very misleading. My hair does feel thicker and healthier, but I'm not covering gray or trying to dye my hair darker. Please do a patch test first and make sure to buy color that is 3 shades lighter than the color you are going for, especially if you are going for blonde, or you may be disappointed. Beware of Darkest Blue!!! I had been using the "Darkest Plum Brown" color of this dye for a few months before I tried the "Darkest Blue". The plum brown was actually decent. It would start out at a really gorgeous violet brown and fade to a pretty auburn. With that in mind, I thought the dark blue would start out dark blue and fade to an ashy brown. I was very wrong. It started out as a bright, but dark blue and was pretty but REALLY REALLY dark. WAY darker than I thought it would be. What was worse was that when it started fading, it just faded to black. Black!! I haven't had black dye in my hair in 18 years because it does not come out of your hair! I definitely would not have used this color had I known it was going to end up black. If I had wanted blue black I would've used this brand's blue black which, knowing what I know now, how dark is THAT color?? If you end up with black hair from this product like I did, check out the ion Color Corrector-it got the black out of my hair in like 10 minutes with no damage! January 28, 2015
There is no red in this color! This product was a big bummer for me. I have been coloring my blonde hair red for 20 years, and this was pretty much the worst color I have ever experienced. Based on the name of the color, I was expecting an auburn RED of some degree; I got dark brown without even a slight tint of red! I don't really like to write negative reviews for products unless the product is ridiculously far from it's description like this one. I liked the way the hair color applied, as it mixed very easily, didn't drip at all, and even smelled nice. But even before I rinsed it out, the color looked strangely off to me; it didn't look like red hair color usually does, and I wished I had rinsed it out as soon as I noticed it. Maybe it wouldn't have been so dark. Nonetheless, it turned my hair a rather dark, ashy brown that looked horrible, and unlike the product's claim, it made my hair look very dry. So, I resorted to my usual remedies of Roux Color Remover, which usually works like a charm. Not this time ~ this color wasn't budging. So I resorted to another fix and used John Freida Go Blonder, which lightens hair a little with each shampoo...but not this hair just looked dryer and duller. I finally decided I would have to do something to add red to my hair, and I found Revlon Colorsilk Luminista in red and it turned out perfectly auburn red with dimensional color and loads of shine. So to all the ladies that call it "cheap boxed hair color", you may want to reconsider that term. The Revlon haircolor was cheap, about $3.00 at Walmart ~ but it fixed my hair problem and I will keep on using it. January 4, 2015
Great Coverage for Gray Hair I wanted coverage for my gray (in my case-white) hair at the crown of my head with a touch of plum color to my natural dark brown hair. This would be my second application of 3V color. When color is first applied - I love the all over coverage color with the deep brown/plum color which fades after a couple weeks to a plum/brown highlights on the ends where my gray has grown out & is the 2nd coverage of color (have long down my back). On the crown/frame of my face it fades to a more vibrant color due to the 1st coverage of gray - plum/brown color (indoors) & bright plum/red (sunlight). First usage of this hair color did not make my hair is not dry but After 2nd application, as all hair color, you will feel some dryness but conditioning will keep it in good shape. I tried Demi-Perm had color run out & color didn't stay too long. Switched to Permanent and found that color stays in better & longer. I really do like this product & will continue to use it. Yes - I use it on my eyebrows every time I color my roots - every 5 to 6 weeks. Works great! Use a small slanted edge brush for ease and accuracy.

I used darkest brown 3N today and it made me hair really dark, more so black.
My hair are naturally on the dark brown side with some gray.
I would like to make my hair go to a brown shade instead of black what the 3N did.
What color do I go with and how soon can I dye with a different color?

Dye wont lift dye. Your best bet is a color remover and try a color two shades lighter, after all, you can always go darker.

I used 8G Med Golden Blonde and wish I had used the 8N (Med Blonde ) or the Dark Blonde in Neutral. I had an employee helping me choose and my elderly Mom waiting on here I am with gold again. I recall the last girl that colored my hair in a salon saying something about gold tones and being unable to achieve the shade of blonde I wanted.
What can I do now? Wait for this to fade and recolor ? Can I get rid of the gold tones w/o having to wait for all natural hair to grow out longer etc. >? Thanks.

If it says gold, you get gold. Try the 8N with a 30 or 40 Volume developer. If a stylist in a salon couldn't do it, find another stylist! You also could find a different salon to get it right , then maintain it with a neutral. FYI. All stylists through the years say to not use a 40 volume. I always do as it seems brighter and it's how I like it. So, have fun!
