Ion Color Brilliance Brights Semi-Permanent Hair Color are hi-fashion hair color shades designed to give vivid, boldly intense results. In twenty to forty minutes Ion Color Brilliance Brights deposits color on pre-bleached natural or color treated hair. Ion Color Brilliance Brights can be applied to pre-lightened hair and natural or colored hair.

Ion Color Brilliance Brights can be applied two different ways.

1. For the most vibrant result apply to pre-lightened hair. Pre-lighten with Ion Color Brilliance Ammonia Free Powder Lightener (not included) to the desired level of lift. It is important to note that the degree of lift achieved with pre-lightening will directly affect the vibrancy and intensity of the final result. Underlying exposed contributing pigment must be taken into consideration. If the hair is orange or a dark yellow this will contribute to the final color. To achieve a boldly intense brights color, pre-lighten to the level indicated in the table below for each specific color. After pre-lightening, shampoo with Ion Color Defense Shampoo. Dry the hair. Apply chosen brights shade directly on dry hair and process for 20 to 40 minutes depending on the level of color intensity desired. Strand test every 5-10 minutes. Heat is not necessary for processing if the hair has been pre-lightened. After processing, thoroughly rinse and apply Ion® Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock the color deep inside the hair.

2. Color shine overlays on natural or color treated hair. Apply brights directly onto natural or color treated dry hair and process for 20 to 40 minutes. For more intense vibrant results, cover the hair with a processing cap and process with heat. Strand test every 5-10 minutes. After processing is completed, thoroughly rinse and apply Ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock color deep inside the hair.

Ion Color Brilliance Brights Semi-Permanent Hair Color 3.6 5 288 294
Fantastic! After much deliberation, I went with Fuschia. My hair was previously Manic Panic Red Passion, faded to a funny cotton candy pink and orange streaky color, and this covered it fabulously. The box states you need state 10 to really get this color, but my hair was probably only an 8 or so and it still came out great. It's far more purple on where my hair was pink previously and a beautiful raspberry color where it was orange. It IS super thick so I added some Ion conditioner to help spread it. I have a lot of hair so I needed two full tubes of it to get it all covered. Unlike the Manic Panic which you can sort of squidge around in your hair when it's done, this stuff doesn't move. I left it on for about two hours and rinsed it out. Also, I highly recommend getting the Ion After-Color Treatment with this as it will make your hair instantly super soft and shiny by closing the cuticle. Time will tell if it helps keep the color in, but my hair feels great. August 15, 2012
Sky Blue bleeds.. A LOT So I've been using Splat hair color for about 4 years but I decided to use Ion because it's cheaper and it worked on my sister. (She used Aqua) First of all, you will probably need two tubes even if you're not planning on dyeing all of your hair if it's at least shoulder length. I dyed about half of my hair which is about 2 inches past my shoulders, and had to squeeze out the very last drops to accomplish even that. My hair is not thick. After the hair color processed for 60 minutes (I know it says 20-40 but I always wait longer) I proceeded to take a shower. Be warned that this dye gets EVERYWHERE when you rinse it out. It DYED my fingernails (luckily I painted them to cover the tint) and patches of my body. That was annoying, but it didn't ruin the product for me. What ruined the product for me is when my hair had dried and all of the parts that I had dyed intentionally were a bright, vibrant blue (beautiful color by the way) while the parts of my light blonde hair which were adjacent to the dyed parts were tinted GREEN. Granted, this creates a fun ombre effect but that is not at all what I wanted. I will not be using this product again. Splat does not bleed, nor does it dye my nails and skin. August 13, 2014
So disappointed... I purchased this product before reading all of the reviews. Once I got home and read some, I tried to apply all of the tips to my own application. I'm an aesthetician who works in the beauty field and I have always done my own hair. I've been a level 10 blonde for a few months and decided I wanted to go to a pastel lavender color. I expected this product to be thick according to previous reports, so I mixed mine half and half with white conditioner. This made application slightly easier, although it was still rather thick. I used a wide tooth comb to help distribute color evenly and cover areas that I might have missed. After application, I covered my head and waited for an hour. When I rinsed the color, I was surprised that I didn't see ANY color washing out in the shower. I thought for sure there would be purple EVERYWHERE! The color was almost an electric purple in most areas once dried. Other areas almost looked brown (and I was almost white before coloring). I'm hoping once I was it again with warm water it will fade some. I was expecting hardly any color to grab onto my hair from the previous reviews. It was very patchy, which makes me want to cover my head. I'll rock lavender, but splotchy hair, not so hot! I've already ordered Pravana's violet in hopes I can correct this! August 13, 2014
SPECIFICALLY THE MAGENTA COLOR ION BRILLIANCE This review is specifically for the MAGENTA color ion brilliance brights. I bought several tubes of the magenta, (stocking up--stupidly) because the swatch seemed wonderful, and I've had pink hair before. (i've only been going red since the pink, was was ready to go back to fabulous pink). SO: I STUPIDLY, waited until the day before a long day of traveling to my best friends wedding, to dye my hair. I squeezed out a couple of tubes, and since the dye is so thick, i mixed in some conditioner. (I've done this with other color ion brilliance brights and it hasn't affected the tone of the final color--so i was confident it was fine). I applied the dye liberally all over, and let it sit for an HOUR. (I know some people do 3 hours, or sleep with it, but again--my other experience with color ion colors suggested this was sufficient). The color didn't seem to deposit at all. It deposited unevenly, and showed more on the bottom side of my hair (near my neck) than it did the top. This SUPER SUCKED considering that if i wanted to RE-DYE my hair I was going to be up VERY late, and I had to get up VERY early for the long drive to my bff's wedding. My mistake, but none the less, if the color deposited, I wouldn't have that problem. Whack. Don't bother with the magenta. Get yourself some PUNKY COLOR or MANIC PANIC. August 11, 2014

This color won't do any damage at all! It's vegan and deposit only, if anything it's good for your hair.

It obviously depends on what color (dye) you are trying to achieve, i.e. pink, red, blue, purple... With the red color ion brilliance brights, I've had GREAT success with my hair only being lightened to about a level 6, or 7. However (obviously) the more lift, the more POP you're going to get from your color. When I originally went magenta, I lightened to about a lever 5. (a golden blonde--and the gold tones hid very well behind the magenta).

Yes, the Ion Color Brilliance Semi can be used without a developer but the other Ion Color Brilliance products do require the use of a developer.

*I am by no means a professional* But, Because Color Ion Brilliance doesn't NOT contain a developer (no ammonia or peroxide) I believe it is safe to dye with it more than once in one day, or safe to use consecutively after lightening. HOWEVER-- Lightening more than once within a two week span can be VERY risky to the health, and structure of your hair. Also, i would encourage to wait at least a day to color your hair after lightening, because the cuticles may not absorb the color in the same manner because they have already been packed with processor from the lightening process.

If you bleach your hair before you redye it, until all the previous dye is out, it will work nicely.

No matter how much purple I mix with the brown, the purple is barely noticable. I want the brown to cover my grey but also have the purple more noticable.

You can't mix a demi with a semi in the bowl, but you can on your head doing two separate colors.

Dye your hair brown with the demi, wash it out, dry, then dye your hair with the semi color. If the semi still isn't vibrant leave it in for more time. Don't keep mixing them in the same bowl or try processing them together at the same time.

Sally's also sells some purplely plum demis I've seen. Maybe try switching to that and adding semi purple as you're creating a little bit of a purple base and still covering greys.

Demi and Semi colors are two completely different types of pigments. Also you shouldn't be using any developer with your semi, so I would imagine it would change the color and deposit little if anything at all.
