Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Brights Hair Color can be applied two different ways.

1. For the most vibrant result apply to pre-lightened hair. Pre-lighten with Ion Color Brilliance Ammonia Free Powder Lightener (not included) to the desired level of lift. It is important to note that the degree of lift achieved with pre-lightening will directly affect the vibrancy and intensity of the final result. Underlying exposed contributing pigment must be taken into consideration. If the hair is orange or a dark yellow this will contribute to the final color.

To achieve a boldly intense brights color, pre-lighten to the level indicated in the table below for each specific color. After pre-lightening, shampoo with Ion Color Defense Shampoo. Dry the hair. Apply chosen brights shade directly on dry hair and process for 20 to 40 minutes depending on the level of color intensity desired. Strand test every 5-10 minutes. Heat is not necessary for processing if the hair has been pre-lightened. After processing, thoroughly rinse and apply Ion® Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock the color deep inside the hair.

2. Color shine overlays on natural or color treated hair. Apply brights directly onto natural or color treated dry hair and process for 20 to 40 minutes. For more intense vibrant results, cover the hair with a processing cap and process with heat. Strand test every 5-10 minutes.

After processing is completed, thoroughly rinse and apply Ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock color deep inside the hair.

Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Brights Hair Colorare non-oxidative dyes that can be extremely long lasting and may become permanent. Should removal be necessary from hair, it is important to know that lightener may not completely remove Brights from hair. Ion Color Corrector is not recommended for removal of Brights. It is designed for permanent and Demi-Permanent color removal.

Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 381 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic! After much deliberation, I went with Fuschia. My hair was previously Manic Panic Red Passion, faded to a funny cotton candy pink and orange streaky color, and this covered it fabulously. The box states you need state 10 to really get this color, but my hair was probably only an 8 or so and it still came out great. It's far more purple on where my hair was pink previously and a beautiful raspberry color where it was orange. It IS super thick so I added some Ion conditioner to help spread it. I have a lot of hair so I needed two full tubes of it to get it all covered. Unlike the Manic Panic which you can sort of squidge around in your hair when it's done, this stuff doesn't move. I left it on for about two hours and rinsed it out. Also, I highly recommend getting the Ion After-Color Treatment with this as it will make your hair instantly super soft and shiny by closing the cuticle. Time will tell if it helps keep the color in, but my hair feels great. August 15, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by READ BEFORE BUYING Ion Color Brilliance is a good dye for someone who is ready for high-maintenance hair. My first word of advice would be to leave it in for a VERY long time. Last time I dyed my hair with it (using Radiant Orchid, Salmon, and Blood Orange), I left it in for 2 1/2 hours. Despite this long exposure, the Salmon still faded out rather quickly. The Radiant Orchid has held on better, although I still only get about 2 bright weeks out of it, but the Blood Orange has stayed in very well, keeping its bright crimson hue almost as bright as it was when I first dyed it. The darker the color, the better it stays (although this can probably be said for most dyes). When fading out, Radiant Orchid fades to a nice pale violet, which is not unpleasant, despite its less vibrant color. Ion is definitely high-maintenance; one wash in even warmish water and you're going to lose a lot of color. If you change your mind often, these are perfect - no long commitment to the color you choose, and they're easy to remove. In general though, if you're looking for a longer-lasting, brighter color, there are better brands out there for the same price. August 26, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by I like most of the colors I have tried I have tried several of these colors and they have all been really beautiful and rich and fade differently. when I use them i left them in my hair for at least 3 hours, cover with a plastic bag and mist with water occasionally to keep it from drying while setting. Its super thick so it doesn't drip and stays where you put it, you will need a brush to apply this stuff because its so thick. does not smell chemically, its actually quite lovely! Red: very fiery at first but fades quickly to a pretty deep pink. Sky Blue: very royal blue when first applied, fades to a light blueish/aqua, but is still vibrant. Purple: Rich at first but quickly fades to lavender then gray Teal: starts more on the blue side at first but after a few washers shows more green, very nice, fades to turquoise. August 25, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Refreshing! I've been coloring my hair for 20 years in between salon visits so I knew my hair would go one of two ways: toned out or slight color. Currently, my hair is a very dark brown/near black, with a dark blonde ombre. Of course, with the dark hair, it ends up being more coppery, once you lighten it. I'm not about of spending $150 just to refresh my color. I mixed 1/3 tube of flamingo, 1/3 rose & 1/2 lavender (thick hair & lots eventhough it's shoulder length), with a dollop of the ion conditioner mask to thin it out a bit. A lot of people complain about the consistency, but I actually like it, because it keeps my bathroom cleaner and I don't end up flinging product across the room. I processed for 40 minutes uncovered at room temp. I was aiming for more of a dusty, lavender rose tinge, but the pigment in the color isn't as strong as I'd like it to be. That and the brassiness in my hair didn't help at all. You really have to have super blond or almost white blonde to see a significant difference. It turned out as a light auburn, with a slight pinky purple tone, but not enough that it's noticeable . I think once this fades, I'll take the leftover color (minus flamingo) , cover and apply heat. Overall, it added a great sheen to my hair. Smells amazing and is worth the $5 per tube. August 25, 2015

I've used Ion several times (I used Radiant Orchid, and I'm assuming since you said purple that yours was something similar), and it's just not the best dye. A ton of it comes out when you first rinse the dye out, and most of the rest usually washes out the next time you shower. If you're very careful and wash your hair only in cold water and with color-safe shampoo, then you might get away with one of their darker colors for a couple of weeks, but in general it fades pretty fast.

I'm interested in having my hair dark brown that shines blue in the light. Does anyone know if I could mix blue from this line with my chosen brown (One n Only Argan color) and get brown that shines blue?
Thanks!

Use the red from Vidal Sassoon, amazing, plus you won't have to bleach it. :)

A:
Depending on how light the purple in your hair is currently you may be able to simply dye red over the top if the color is a lavender-silvery color. Anything darker than pastel you should try to bleach out your hair before going red (assuming you want something ultra bright, say firetruck red or something like that). You can chance it but if your hair is healthy enough to do so then the best course of action would be to try and fade out the color (vigorous shampooing over time, a bleach bath [mixture of bleach and clarifying shampoo that is less harsh than bleach alone], or bleaching) but if it's a very light silvery-purple shade you shouldn't have too much of an issue. If you want to use another Ion product you can use red or any combination of colors to achieve your desired shade of red.
