Rated 5 out of 5 by from ION Demi Color I've been using this for a year, my hair damaged easily and it's gentle on my hair

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy Customer! Let me start by saying that I spent ALOT of time researching and reading tons of reviews before I went forward with my color. I have had very bad experiences in the past coloring my own hair and vowed I never would again, but alas, here we are! For years I have been highlighting my hair a very light blonde, probably 8-9 level depending on time of year. A few months ago my stylist added lowlights to break up some of the blonde, and it was ok, but ended up making my hair look a little muddy and too warm for my liking. My natural hair is about a 6 light neutral brown, with no noticeable red tones, but for some reason, any color other than just straight highlights pulls serious red tones which I hate!! So I have resigned myself to just getting highlights, which I like, but the upkeep and pricetag is too much and I want to get to a more low maintenance routine. About two months ago I learned around demi color so I went to my stylist and asked her to do a light brown to help tone down my highlights which were starting to take on a really yellow/brassy tone. I was pretty happy with the result, but still pulled some red, but I could live with it. I then decided that I wanted to try the demi color on my own, because even though it was cheaper than highlights, it still cost me about $65 when it was all said and done. Then I stumbled upon the Ion Demi Permanent line and it got the best reviews of the other demi lines I came across, so that is where I focused my attention. I eventually decided I was going to do a combination of the 7NA (medium neutral ash) and 9NB (very light neutral blonde), as I found that most people said combining two shades creates a more natural look. I did a 1:2 ratio mixing with a level 10 developer. I did a strand test and left on for 15 minutes. After I rinsed it off and dried it, I didn't notice any change at all, so I was a little disappointed because I thought I had grabbed colors that were too light and wouldn't produce any results. I decided to still go ahead and do my whole head since I already had my mixture and figured it couldn't hurt and at least it wasn't going to turn my hair a horrible color! I did my roots and about halfway down my hair (where most of the brassiness was) and waited about 15 minutes, and then for 3 minutes I ran the color through my ends, because I didn't want them to look muddy. Oh, I also did buy the pre color treatment, so I had coated my hair with that before starting. I don't know why the strand test didn't show any results, because it definitely colored my hair! I really am happy with the color, it helps to tone down my brass, not as much as I was hoping it would, and did make the top of my hair more of a light/medium brown color, but it looks nice because it is very close to my natural color. I do have grays around my temples and the side of my face, and although the color did help to blend them, it definitely didn't work great to totally cover them. I will say I am glad I waited to run the color through my ends and only left on for a couple of minutes, otherwise I think it would have looked two one dimensional and muddy and I don't think I would have been happy with that result. All in all, I am happy with the results, and my hair looks much more blended and natural, with toned down brass. It looks like it could be my natural color. I will definitely use again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go-to dye for the last 6 years I've been using this dye for like, 6 years. Same color, every 6 weeks or so. It covers gray perfectly, grows out without a hard dye-line at your part, and makes my fine, dull hair shiny and manageable. My long hair was the healthiest of my life before I cut it off for a pixie. I get compliments on the color all the time, whether I've recently touched up or not. My local store stopped carrying my color, and actually told me it was discontinued, but I was elated to find it online so I can keep using it (clearly, change is hard for me). Please, please, please, do not discontinue the medium copper blonde demi color! It's fabulous and there's nothing else like it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful results I used Light Golden Brown on my medium brassy blonde. I used the ion pre color treatment on my very porous ends then mixed the whole tube of demi color with 3 ounces of ion sensitive scalp 10 developer and let it sit for 25 minutes(whole head) I rinsed it well and then used the ion after color sealer treatment, left that on for about 4-5 minutes then rinsed very well with cool water. My scalp felt great and my hair color is beautiful and rich and even. I cannot say how long it lasts yet though since I just used it 4 days ago. So far, I am very pleased with the results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 6wr demi Just dyed my hair with 6wr demi and I did my research beforehand and knew that the demi line is a lot darker than the swatch in store, I would say the level 6 turned out more like a level 3. It's a really pretty rich red brown colour, but a tad too dark for my skin tone. Hoping it fades a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great color I have struggled for years to recreate my childhood red hair in a way that looks natural. I use 1 part 6RC, 1 part 6R (this is where there brightness comes from) and 2-3 parts of 9 Gold. The color is perfect. With time, the color fades to a more red-strawberry blond which looks really natural and keeps me from having roots that are dramatically different from my colored hair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ion Color Brilliance Demi 6VV I have never reviewed a product for Sally's but I definitely had to review this shade in particular. This shade 6VV is definitely full of double violet pigment. When I saw they finally had a full on violet shade, I had to try it. I tried it out on an extension that I lifted in the past to a level 9/10 that was originally a level 4 and then I also tried it out on an extension that I freshly lifted to just about a level 8. I mixed this with a 1:2 ratio and left it on the level 9/10 extension for the full 25 mins. Rinsed with cold water, DID NOT shampoo (I usually don't shampoo my demi's because the final color result doesn't stay as true as I want it since demi's are meant to wash out completely eventually, but you can if you want), and conditioned. When you do this you will get a MUCH deeper violet with pink undertones. This means that when you're indoors it may almost look black, but when you're in light it's full on violet with a hint of pink. It's absolutely stunning. I also used this as a toner for the extension that I freshly lifted to a level 8 and just a warning: this stuff works FAST. The pigment is just so strong that it toned my extension in just about 5 mins. The result leaves you with a lighter shade of violet. I don't mean that it will look full on purple (as if you dyed your hair with Manic Panic or something) in every light, but it's definitely easier to see indoors that you hair is violet. The best way I can describe it would be equivalent to perhaps a violet mahogany shade which means it's violet with hints of brown/warmth (I personally liked this result better than the dark violet). Overall, this was one of the best shades I've ever tried from this line. Would definitely recommend this as a color refresher or toner. Make sure you hair is at least a level 6+ for this to have noticeable results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect color I had been looking for a purple hair color that could help me get a plum when applied to my level 3 brown hair. The 6VV Intense Violet did exactly that! During the night, the hair looks darker (close to a brown black), but during the day (specially under sunlight) it looks a beautiful dark violet color. Apart, it left my hair shiny and soft. Will buy again for sure!

Will this product give me "hot roots"? What can I do to avoid it? Also, If I want to kill some of the red, what other color can I combine it with? Thx

Asked by: EstherLB
No. Demi is intended to be a deposit only color. It will not lighten an existing color, therefor it won't give you hot roots.

I'm limited to only 255 Characters but that's not enough so I'm gonna make this short as possible. I have: - Black Hair, Trying to achieve 8N Light Natural Blonde Would I have to bleach my hair first then use it, or bleach, tone then the 8N?

Asked by: AlexYong
Yes. You have to bleach your hair. This product just deposits color, it won't lift any. Unfortunately, bleach and then demi 8n.

What is Demi permanent?

Asked by: Claudette 65
from the PROTIPS tab on the description: Demi-permanent hair color is the most versatile kind of haircolor, because it lasts much longer than semi-permanent color (up to six weeks). It is sometimes referred to as deposit-only hair color or non-lift deposit-only color, because it’s formulated to deposit (add), but not to lift (lighten) color. Demi-permanent color is ideal for blending or covering gray (up to 100 percent!) and enhancing, deepening, or changing the tone of your natural color. It also adds intense shine.

My hair is an orange-ish light brown color and I want the orange gone, without having to bleach it. Will the ash colors help fix this ?

Asked by: amstew__
I would actually use a toner instead to neutralize the orange. I've had great experience with Wella toners. Normally a toner with a blue base will take away any orange.

Is this product ready to use right out of the tube, or does it require a developer? Thank you so much!

Asked by: Dubinator
Yes you'll need a developer. I like the Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer, 10 or 20 volume. Use 4 parts developer to 1 part color.

When using the Clear color, is a developer used with it?

Asked by: Robinita
Yes. The developer is needed to open the hair cuticle. 10vol or 5 vol.
