Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hit or Miss, But Great Product I have used this product quite a few times now, and I've tried probably 3/4 of the shades. Most of the colors really hold to the hair, and come out beautifully. The only shade that seemed to not take to my hair was the Mint. The dye seemed more blue, but after processing, I think it just came out too translucent. I think its just a matter of that particular shade not being pigmented enough, or not having enough of a base. But the blues, purples, pinks, etc were iridescent and they had great depth. The color usually seems to last for about a month, then begins to fade, but the fading seems to be more subtle than other brands. In all, great product, great colors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 9 Ion colors at 1x!!!! I used Ion color brilliance pre color spray leave in treatment then the following colors and color combinations* ALL COLORS ARE ION COLOR BRILLIANCE * Shadow Root and Throughout hair *Purple (Brights collection) -Jade (Gemstone collection) -Mint (Brights collection) *Mint and Jade were mixed 1/3Jade 2/3 mint* -Sky blue (Brights collection) *ONLY 1/3 mixed with 2/3cyan* -Cyan (Neon Brights collection) *Cyan also by itself as 1 of the colors* -Radiant Orchard (Neon Brights collection) *by itself and mixed 1:1 with the purple* -Magenta (Brights collection) -Aqua (Brights collection) Now.... As you can see from the pictures, there is a lot of yellow in the places that are supposed to have the aqua and the Jade/mint 1:3 mixture? I always use a protein filler (drop a few drops in each color) because it's supposed to help evenly distribute the color and help the color grab your hair. For whatever reason the protien filler did NOT help the aqua Jade/Mint so there are quite a few places where it doesn't have color which would normally be unacceptable for me. But, because the colors faded into each other really well it looks like I am supposed to have yellow there too I am pretty sure no one knew that 2 of the colors didn't actually take on my hair until I told them! I really like Ion products but they fade a lot quicker than the other 2 brands that I use. And In is the only brand that I have had issues with it not showing up on my hair at all and that only happened with this particular coloring session? So, it's possible that I didn't put the protien filler in those 2 bowls-its unlikely that this is the cause bit I'm not 100% sure I put the filler in the bowl. Other than that In is really great!!! -*I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL HAIR STYLIST*-

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so great on dark roots... I have been using the L'Oréal Highlights for Dark Hair for around 6 months now and have achieved great results with both 20&30 volume developer.. I have now used the magenta &a fuschia mixed for 2 sessions now and have not seen a difference in my naturally dark roots. I used it once with a 20 vol and the second time with a 40 vol and still nothing. Not super impressed. I don't know if it's just user error or if it's the product but I had no issues before. Disappointing...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to dye This is one of the only colored dyes I use along with Overtone conditioner. I've had my hair nearly every color in the rainbow. Its vibrant like Manic panic but you get more bang for your buck. I often use the Magenta mixed with some conditioner to get a dusty rose effect. It comes out really effing vibrant which is cool for the first week and then after a couple washes it turns into the color i'm aiming for. The only downside is that, with any unnatural color, it fades fast. Which you should expect in anything pink/red. I have very thick hair so I buy two tubes and coat liberally on my hair, I leave it for an hour and use a color safe shampoo to get the remaining dye out of the back of my hair. I like it, and I'll continue to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results I bought the rose and lavender a couple days ago. I have dark blonde hair with balayage. I only left on for 20-25 minutes and the color was very subtle but really pretty. I did it again this morning and sat under my hood dryer for about 25 minutes of the 45 I did and it was very vibrant for pastel, which will look good as it fades.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Titanium dye Ion hair dye has disappointed me for the last time. I pre-lightened my hair to a white/blonde level 10-11 and applied the titanium brights color that is supposed to be a silvery steel. It was so thick, even diluted, that it was almost impossible to fully coat the hair and it started drying out in the middle of the application. I left it on for the recommended time. The final result was a dark denim color that was flat and lifeless. It didn't stick at all to parts of my hair and was very splotchy and uneven. I will be going back to the tried and true blue steel color from Manic Panic when I can manage to get this nasty dye out of my hair.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy Used one of the blues on my daughter's hair. Didn't expect it to be bright as her hair is a little on the darker side, but she had lighter color treated hair so I did expect it to come out in a form of blue. There is nothing whatsoever that relates to blue in her hair. She and I are both extremely disappointed and frustrated.

I have recently bleached my hair and put in the lavender hair color. The color came out really patchy ( bright on the roots and barely any color on the ends so it gets really weird) and I was wondering how to get it out of my hair? Thank you!

Asked by: Karyn709
This happened to my older daughter. Eventually after a few washes, the color came out. You could also rebleach your hair and the color might disappear.

I am wanting to use a product on my daughters hair. she wants a little teal in it. How long does it last in hair? I want something that will be almost non existent before school starts.

Asked by: Holland12
It totally depends oh how porous her hair is. And FYI Teal is very difficult to come out. I had to bleach my hair 3 times and it still showed. You might want to use hair chalk or the spray on colors for her.

Should I bleach my hair to achieve the full color? I currently have dyed semi-light blonde hair with dark blonde roots (natural).

Asked by: batdorfs37
You would definitely bleach your roots so that it's the same color evenly from scalp to end....unless you are wanting a shadow root? If you want a shadow root it would depend on the new color your wanting to put on and whether your hair is the same level or darker than the new color... For example: if you have light blonde and dark blonde roots growing out, you will need to lighten your roots a couple levels to the color of the rest of your hair. The darker your root the higher level of lift you will need to achieve an all over even color. If you are going darker than your roots then it really doesn't make a big difference because you are darkening it all. Hope that makes sense and helps you

I tried a few different silver, grey and  titanium colors. My hair turns blue, any tips or suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks

Asked by: Mofina513
Some of the grey/silvers have a green base. Some have a violet base... Ion color brilliance Titanium and Gun Metal Grey are both a green base Chrome and Platinum are violet base (Double check with your Sally's worker to make sure I have the correct color with the correct base coat) There is also a new one that Ion came out with that has the word violet in the color but I can't remember the exact name of it I'm sorry

i have bleached ends (ombre-ish) from my last hair dying. I am wondering if i were to use the titanium dye all over will it not take to my dark brown hair and only to the bleach ends, or will it leave a silvery undertone to the brown.

Asked by: angelinaleon
It depends on the level of lightness to the hair, for example: if the ends are lightened to light blonde or white and the hair closer to your scalp is darker then the color won't be the sale on both the light and dark shade of your hair.... If your darker hair is as dark as or darker than the color you are depositing then it won't show up over that hair. If you are wanting to stick with the ombre effect and just change the color then you would be able to as long as your dark isn't darker than the new color... If you are wanting an even all over color you will have to even out the colors that you currently have because even if the blonde is only a couple shades lighter than your darker the new color will be based on the level of lightness that your hair is when it's applied. Hope this helps

Would you use a developer with this product?

Asked by: mnmz2020
I have used In color brilliance for about 4 years and I feel your frustration with the thickness. I started mixing it with 10 vol developer (to give it a manageable consistancy) the developer isn't actually developing anything but it also isn't potentially interfering with your coloring process. I would also recommend a protien filler in the color mixture if you have had to lighten your hair prior to applying the color
