Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard water? Then this product is a MUST have I have high iron in my well water. It turns my blond hair orange like rust. Ion clarifying crystals is the only product I've found that removes it without damaging my hair. I use it every other week. Once a month is your water is not high in iron like mine. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I have been using ion Crystal Clarifying treatment for 20 years. I have hard water & blonde hair so my hair wants to get a red or brown hue. I use this treatment once a month. Gets out any hard water iron and any product build up. Back to being blonde!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works quite well Let me start off with a little background: trying to get YEARS (15+) of rust out of bright blonde hair. Not easy. This is something I've always dealt with unfortunately due to where I live. Now, depending on the rust buildup, it may take all or most of it out, but in my case, it takes out all rust but the most stubborn area on the back of my head. If you havent had the rust buildup in your hair, it could probably strip all of it out. But if you are like me dealing with brassy locks, you can expect it to take about 75% out. This product is simple to use, I bought the bottle applicator to use with this, and it takes about 30 minutes. You will have better results if you wrap your head in a shower cap or plastic wrap and cover with a towel. This runs under $3 and it's better than going to the salon. Also, this works for chemical/product buildup, and leaves hair nice and silky after it strips out the gunk! Hope this helps!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it says I bleached my hair and after experimenting, i dyed it a smokey purple which faded to grey then a light grey with some patchy purple and bleached blonde peeking through. I made a horrible mistake of using BLUE shampoo on my hair, which gave it a seafoam green tint. Almost died and tried using head n shoulders whenever i washed my hair, barely helped alone... Whatever, tried to rock it for a few days and bought this. Mixed it in my plastic dye bowl and left it on for 5 mins (repeated this twice) and shampooed with Head n shoulders and used a protein reconstructor treatment.. Wow... my hair is considerably lighter, most of the green tint came out and so much more manageable. Will use this a few more times next week and redo this process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product!! Highly highly recommend this product! Specially if you have blonde hair and have well water. My hair was a nasty orange brassy color for the longest time from build up and I tried lots of things like home treatments that say works and purple shampoo, other shampoos ect. But nothing has worked as good as this! One treatment and my hair is back to normal! Going to start using it often! For only 2.99! I'm so happy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of $ I bought ten of these and put them on my hair with warm bottled water i heated up on the stove...plastic cap....an hour. My blonde hair is still red. I do not color treat my hair. Rust water turned it dark auburn and now I have light blonde roots. This did nothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME! I just bought and used this product yesterday and it absolutely "wowed" me. We had a problem with our iron system and my blondish hair started turning a rusty orange. I was so excited to see that this actually worked after one treatment! Yes, just one! I would highly recommend this product to anyone that has the same issues!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! After a too ashy tone, I was advised to use this. I put it right on dry hair, left on 40 minutes with shower cap. It took the tint right out! Remember that this can do that. If you use a cheating shampoo, don't use this too, or hair can become brittle. Common sense, ladies! If you just colored you hair, and don't like the tint, use this. If you like your color, this may be too strong if trying to demineralize. Saved me money!

Does this product remove medication build up on the hair to prep for perms and color?

Asked by: Mkelley1983
Hi, my answer would be It's best for removing minerals (it's citric acid based) and buildup, and perm odors, I would think yes, it probably would. Also a clarifying chealating shampoo would absolutely work. I like quantum clarifying by zotos. It's clarifying and chelating. I use it at least once a week. I also have to take certain meds and my hair gets dull. So I can vouch for that one. Doesn't seem to strip hair like straw.

I had purple color in my hair and now it faded to a pinkish purple and I want to remove the color, would this help any?

Asked by: Brandi16
I have never used this product to remove color, only to remove iron buildup . I color my hair with an ash blonde and it does remove a lot of the color if you leave it on long enough. I would put it on your hair and place a cap over it and sit under a dryer for 20 minutes. It should remove or at least fade it considerably

Do I shampoo before I put the product in my hair? Also if I plan on coloring right after I rinse it off, do I rinse it with shampoo and conditioner and put my permanent color/developer on my wet hair?? Or do I dry my hair?

Asked by: ProudArmyWife
To be honest it's been years(over a decade ) since I've dyed my hair. I still use this product as it removes minerals and styling product buildup. I am not a pro. But I used to dye mine after several days of not washing my hair and make sure you don't have any scalp scratches , etc. If you prefer to use this right before dying, I would wash, rinse, mix this according to pkg directions , apply with applicator bottle. Leave on a few minutes. Rinse, give it one shampoo with moisturizing shampoo. Don't condition!Rinse, Detangle.Dry hair thoroughly and then dye your hair. You never want to dye wet hair. But yes, using a clarifying treatment before chemical servicing the hair is a good idea. Oddly, you'll find unlike clarifying chelating shampoos, your hair isn't straw after using it. I have very hard water where I live. This is good stuff. But again, I am not a professional, just remembering from experience. Good luck , hope this helps you.

After application, rinse and shampoo do I use conditioner after I shampoo? I am going to apply permanent hair color so I'm not sure if I condition before color application

Asked by: Lindy123
Yes, condition after as the hair will be lacking natural oil and will need moisturized.

Can you use this product when pregnant?

Asked by: Jackiepreg
I would email ion's website and ask them. Ion at home. Personally? It's mostly citric acid based so I think you'd be alright. No ammonia or anything I can think of as being dangerous. But, I'd email the manufacturer just to be sure rather than just taking my advice. Also yes it's a really good product. Gets all the gunk off your hair.Been around for decades! Used to use it a lot in my younger years when I colored my hair a lot.Or also for perm smell. Lately ordered some because the water where I live leaves your hair like straw. It's the mineral content and everything just seems to adhere to your hair. Dull and brittle and dry. This cleans that off and helps balance the ph like a vinegar rinse would. But without drying your hair out. So, came back to it. Hope this helps. Check with the company first!

can I use crystal clarifying and protein filler before coloring my hair

Asked by: moeslucy
I do. It removes all the hair product build up and makes the hair color grab your hair easier, and your hair color will be more brilliant.
