Semi-Permanent Hair Color is rated 3.9639 out of 5 by 83.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good-for-your-hair color. Excellent for between salon visit maintenance. While the shade is not exactly perfect, the color itself will not damage your hair and may even good for it. There are few hair color products that are not damaging and this is one of the few. *Beware* some of the competitor products that claim to have no ammonia and no peroxide have ammonia or peroxide cousin ingredients. No, I don't work for Ion. I did experience severe damage from one of the competitor products that is also sold by Sally. I would like to see Ion make the color in more shades. I am concerned that Ion may discontinue this excellent product since the display at Sally's keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far My Favorite Semi-Permanent I am a 4b, low-porosity, natural and had given up using semi-permanent colors because they would rinse right out of my hair. Perhaps this will help someone else who has found semi-permanent doesn't work as well for them. The demi and permanent color caused deterioration of my ends. To really help increase the odds that it would work, I did a lot of things my initial times using the color. I start with a mudwash to remove all oils and build up. I used the ION pre-color treatment. I applied the color and let it sit for 45 minutes under 2 plastic caps and 2 of the metallic caps. I rinsed in cool to warm water. I used the ION after-color treatment. I skipped conditioning after. I used a leave-in and styler with no oil. I made sure I didn't wash my hair for at least 4 days after to let the color take hold. After a few tries I have simplified my process. I still start with the mudwash. I skip the pre-color treatment and apply the color. I still do 45 minutes under the 4 caps. I rinse in cool to warm water but skip the after-color treatment. I do my leave-in and styler but no oil on the 1st day. I optionally do oil the 2nd day. I still wait 4 days before wetting my hair again. I usually wet my hair every 3 to 4 days and my color last 3 weeks but it looks better if I do it every 2 week. My hair is brown with large sections of gray up front. With the black color even left on for 45 minutes, it looks a dark reddish brown. This color does what I need it to do and I'm not worried about drying my ends out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from From really dark to wonderful! " LOVE this product! Never used it before. I am a medium brunette naturally. I have been dying my hair for almost 20+ years now. Recently, over the last couple of years (I'm 40+ years old) my hair has turned almost a black color, even though the darkest shade of haircolor I have used is a medium brown. The ends, almost a blue-black. I wanted my "brown" back! I have used permanent, boxed haircolor my whole life. I had to remove the color, but I didn't want to bleach. I bought One and Only Color Fix. I mixed the 2 bottles of color fix together (the entire bottles) and put all of it on my hair and really rubbed it in and saturated every last strand. I then wrapped my head in saran wrap and kept "warming" my head with the blowdyer off and on for a 1/2 hour. I rinsed really well and then shampooed twice with a clarifying shampoo. I DID NOT use the developing lotion (bottle #3) as it said it may turn your hair dark again! So I threw it out. Honestly, I expected a mess. I anticipated it to turn out really uneven with grey roots and still dark ends. Well, it didn't do that, but it certainly wasn't pretty at first! I had grey roots, it felt really dry, and the rest of my hair was a ginger-orange color. I then applied an entire bottle of ION semi-permanent light warm brown to my hair. I used the entire bottle and really rubbed it in. It almost looked like wood stain and I was a little frightened my hair would turn black again! I wrapped my head in saran wrap again, warmed it with the blow dryer a couple of times, and left it on for 1/2 an hour. I got into the shower and rinsed and rinsed. Then I applied an ION color sealer conditioner and let it sit for 10 minutes while I continued to shower. I rinsed and styled as usual. I LOVE MY HAIR! The color is even!!! Not light on the top and dark at the ends like I feared! It's evenly colored, no grey, shiny, smooth, soft, and the best of all, it's a very warm light brown color with undertones of red! It's gorgeous! I haven't had a color like this that I absolutely loved in forever! I hope the semi-permanent will last a couple of weeks, but I have heard mixed reviews about it fading too quickly. I don't think I care, though. Even having to re-color once a week would be worth it to keep this color! I am now a semi-permanent hair color girl! I never would have though! (My hair, I would say is porous; it takes color very quickly (except the greys) and usually turns out on the dark side of what ever color I am trying to achieve.) I hope this review helps with your decision to use these products! "

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! I cannot put permanent dye on my head as I am allergic. This is the only hair color I can use. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally Finally, a semi color that sticks and is not waxy. Just enough color to cover grey and look highlighted. Wonderful effect. Washes out over the month and does run slightly when wet for first two washings. So far, the best that I have been able to find, love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hated it This product didn't even last 4 washes. I was very unhappy with it. I will definitely not be purchasing it again. Didn't cover grays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very reliable product, exactly what I wanted I use semi-permanent hair color because I hate how permanent color destroys my hair. I used the Clairol product for years, but they don't distribute it widely any more. I was glad to find the Ion product because it had the right color for me (light warm brown) and it works as I wanted. It lasts about a week and makes my baby hair even stronger and softer. It also seems to protect the hair from the strong California sun. So, for me, it's an ideal product.

I am allergic to regular hair dye!

I have been using this weekly for about 3 yrs. it has been great, but now my hair gets a purple tinge to it. Is there anything I can use to totally wash everything out? I have to use something cuz I am too young to be grey!!!!

Get a calcium bentonite clay and do a hair and scalp detox with it. You may have to do it over a period of days to get out all of the color. Then you can start over. You may just need to detox your hair from time to time.

I have brown hair with natural blonde highlights. Will it all come back?

I have brown hair with natural blond highlights , but recently I've had the heart to die my hair black. Only semi permanent. I want my full colour to come back with the highlights. If I use this product will it happen?
Asked by: Amanda
Its possible but may take longer than the typical 4-8 shampoos that semis last. You could always to a test area and wear for a week or two while you shampoo and see the longevity!

Do you use this straight from the bottle or with developer?

Asked by: Anonymous
You can use the Semi permanent color straight out of the bottle. It doesn't need a developer. Ion's Brilliance Demi permanent and Permanent colors do require a developer.

can I re-apply color for better coverage on same day?

Touched up my roots and the color looks mottled and my grays are hot pink. I was using the Burgundy Brown on my deep red colored hair.

Ion is pretty good, damage-wise because it doesn't damage your hair that much (it has no ammonia). So you probably could, but you should probably wait a day or two to give your hair a break.

Can you mix this with conditioner to make a color depositing conditioner?

Asked by: Rachiee
If you put a color on your bleached hair, and mix that color with conditioner then the color will turn out pastel. If you want to touch up your roots or something in the shower, then mix some hair dye with conditioner and apply it for 10 minutes in the shower. But your best bet would be to just buy a color depositing shampoo/conditioner, lol.
