Creates a protective protein layer around the hair shaft, helping to eliminate frizz and smooth cuticle but does not rearrange the bonds in the hair. Does NOT enter the cortex.

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 121 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by ion keratin hair treatment I like the results. I followed the directions. Wash hair 4-5 times with shampoo. Dry hair. To put the keratin lotion in my hair, I used a spray bottle. Do not overspray. To get the lotion through my hair, I used a clean boar bristle brush to brush the solution through my hair. I dried my hair with a hair dryer and brush. My flat iron has a temperature gauge and I set it to 450 degrees F. I ironed my hair until it shone. High gloss. Very nice. April 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Do Keratin Treatments AT HOME from now on I used to go to a get Keratin treatments to smooth my hair out but found this product and have been doing my own treatments at home ever since. I also use it to condition my hair once a month by leaving it in for a day then washing it out. My hair is longer, smoother and stronger. Highly recommended. January 16, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worked to my expectations I wasn't expecting a miracle I was just hoping for some reduction of frizz and less effort straightening and it's worked for that. My only issue was I have really long and thick hair so I basically used both bottles in one go but for the price compared to others it was dang good. Great smell, And it's been about 4 months since and I can tell it's still easier straightening all my hair. Takes me maybe 20 minutes now to go through my hair with a flatiron on a lower temp instead of closer to an hour on the highest temp. Gonna buy again and I'm gonna do my nieces hair too. Rated 5 out of 5 by Lasts longer than a GK Express Keratin I am a licensed cosmetologist and have used numerous keratin treatments countless times. This one is the best for its value because it lasts longer than a GK Express Keratin, and does not have the "cabbage smell" that the longer lasting "Best or Resistant" GK Formulas have. Everyone's hair may respond differently. I follow the manufacturers instructions and approx. 2 out of 30 people did not notice a change in their hair, after the first time they did it themselves. After thorough research we discovered one issue was hormonal and the other did not use the after care products that were recommended. Now that keratins have reached mainstream, the cost to produce it is much less than it was. Bottom line: This does what is says it does. I notice that others who give 1 star are "do-it-yourselfers. This is to be applied by a licensed professional only, and I recommend having this done over again by a professional and applied exactly according to manufactur's instructions.. September 25, 2015

Although we recommend the Ion Keratin Iron, others may be used. Most important is that the iron has a digital heat setting to pinpoint an accurate temperature and maintains steady heat to ensure best results!

You can use your own flat iron if you wish. You can also use your own smoothing iron.

I think it will help YES. I recommend washing your hair well then putting this product on. Comb out with a wide tooth comb, cover in Saran Wrap, plastic shower cap or similar and then leave on for a while say an hour. Then you can either leave on longer like all night or blow out right away. Then flat iron your hair or put in a scrunchie tie rolling your hair nicely into it so it is in a smooth spiral so to speak. Nothing fancy, just to keep control of it and guide it into a shape. Leave it in as long as you can until next day if possible and then wash and style as usual. I think you will find your hair is defined, silky and strong.

It is possible the treatment may help but it is also possible it will pull some of the curl out as well. We may recommend trying on a test area first to ensure desired results!

I do it both ways. I blow it out and flat iron it when I want the full Keratin effect.

But I also use it to just smoothen my hair out without all the straightening. I let it dry combed smooth and in a scrunchie so it puts nice smooth curl to the hair as it dries. That's it.

You can color the Same Day and this is the only keratin product that I've found so far where this can be safely done; instructions on how to do it are included on the label. It's what I do once every four to six weeks. Basically you shampoo with the clarifying shampoo 2-4 times depending on your hair type, blow dry then color. Rinse color out according to the hair color instructions, blow dry hair completely again, use Ion product according to the instructions to the last step and finish.
I've done this for years and have never had an issue just make sure to follow the instructions!

I know it says to wait at least 72 hours before shampooing the hair, but will the chlorine in a swimming pool strip the keratin treatment from the hair? I read on a different website (for keratin treatments in general - not just Ion) that you should condition the hair before going into the pool and washing/shampoo after leaving the pool.

I swam about a week after applying and my hair seemed to hold up. Even if you haven't had a keratin treatment it's a good idea to put conditioner in your hair before swimming.
