The moisturizing properties of vanillin, wheat germ and argan oil help to revive, strengthen and nourish dry, damaged hair. Lasts up to 6 - 8 weeks*. No Formaldehyde added.

1- 4 fl. oz. Kerating Smoothing Treatment
1- 4 fl. oz. Keratin Clarifying Shampoo
1 Applicator brush/comb
1 Pair of vinyl gloves
Tools required (not included): Ion Keratin Smoothing Iron or comparable flat iron that reaches 450°F., Ion Keratin Smoothing Comb or heat resistant comb.
*results vary on hair type and frequency of shampooing
Step 1: Shampoo the hair with the Ion Keratin Clarifying Shampoo. Shampoo 5 times for virgin, gray or resistant hair. Shampoo 4 t imes for color treated hair. Shampoo 3 times for highlighted or fine hair. For each shampoo, leave the product on the hair for at least 30 seconds prior to rinsing. (Focus on cleansing the hair, not the scalp).
Step 2: Completely dry the hair using medium heat. Section the hair to begin the application in the nape of the neck.
Step 3: Vigorously shake the Ion® Keratin Smoothing Treatment. Pour 2 oz into a non-metallic tint bowl. While wearing gloves, apply a small amount of the Ion Keratin Smoothing Treatment in 1/4" sections using the enclosed tint brush. Using the comb on the opposite side, comb the smoothing treatment through each section to ensure even distribution before continuing to the next section. Do not over saturate each section. If product remains on the comb after combing section, too much product has been applied.
Step 4: Allow to process for 15 minutes at room temperature for normal hair and up to 20 minutes for resistant hair. After the appropriate time has elapsed, use a paddle or vent brush to blow-dry the hair completely.
Step 5: Re-section the hair. Beginning at the nape of the neck, take thinner 1/8"sections and begin flat ironing the hair from the scalp to the ends using the Ion Keratin Smoothing Iron with the temperature set between 400°F and 450°F. Please note at these temperatures it is necessary to use a heat resistant carbon comb. For optimum results use the Ion Keratin Smoothing Comb. For normal hair set the temperature to 450°F. and for fine hair use temperatures set at 430°F. For over processed hair, set as low as 400°F. Be sure to seal the keratin into the hair by repeating the smoothing process with the Ion Keratin Smoothing Iron more than one time per strand. For virgin hair, apply the flat iron 5-7 times per section. For color treated hair apply the flat iron 5 times per section. For highlighted hair, apply the flat iron 3-5 times per section. Work your way through each section of the hair. You will see a glassy appearance on the cuticle layer when the keratin has been sufficiently cured to the hair.
Step 6: DO NOT wet, shampoo, or firmly secure the hair with hair accessories for at least 72 hours to allow the hair to be transformed into the desired smooth straight results. If the hair becomes damp during this period, dry and smooth with the Ion Keratin Smoothing Iron at temperature specific to hair type.
Step 7: It is important to maintain the hair with the Ion Keratin Smoothing maintenance products following the treatment. Shampoos, conditioners, and styling products containing sodium chloride will remove the keratin coating from the hair.
Note: Color services up to 20 volume hydrogen peroxide can be applied same day. Shampoo 3-5 times according to the above directions. Dry the hair 50-100% then proceed with color application. Rinse thoroughly without shampooing or conditioning. Dry the hair completely then continue with the Keratin Smoothing Treatment. If the hair has already been treated with the Keratin Smoothing Treatment, wait 7-10 days before applying hair color. When used with sodium hydroxide relaxers or thermal straighteners it is critical they are applied at least 4 weeks apart.

Horrible, waste of my time and money!! I had natural African American hair 4b type and decided to straighten my hair using this product. First of all it took almost 5 hours from start to finish. My hair was previously colored a nice auburn shade but after applying this product it is now a horrible mix of black and light brown and looks splotchy throughout. The product smells nice but left my hair feeling gummy and heavily coated even after it had beenb dried and flat ironed. Also after flat ironing my hair before going to bed, which did not get it completely smooth and sleek I had to re-flat iron it again in the morning which still did not work. By the time I left for work and being outside within 20 minutes my hair frizzed back up like the product had never been applied. Needless to say I was so upset and distraught over the time and money wasted that I would have just took the empty box back to Sally's and demanded my money back if I thought they would refund it to me. Also as a result the after effects of the product, I ended up just cutting off a lot of damage done to the ends due to the amount of heat needed for this product and just getting a relaxer. I went from having at least 3-4 inches of nice hair before to less that 2 inches afterwards due to the damage . DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!! July 3, 2014
not worth the trouble or value VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!! I had such hope that this product would correct my hair by reducing 90-100% of frizz and 50% of my natural curl, as it advertises on the box. It did none of that!I Also purchased the Keratin shampoo, Keratin conditioner and Keratin leave-in conditioner as recommended on the box, this did not help. My frizzy and curly hair still the same though I suffered through the long process with takes almost 4 hours from the time you start process till your hair is dried and straight ironed. Then, you have to wait 72 hours with the product in your hair without washing or wetting or crimping your hair in any way. Its too much work and money for failure. Don't buy it, its not worth the trouble. June 11, 2014
Exceeded Expectations! I bought this product to help "heal" my hair after major over-processing (I had to dye my hair 5 times in one week). My hair was so damaged that when I shampooed my hair, I was not able to run my fingers through it and it was incredibly frizzy . I used the ION Keratin Smoothing Treatment and almost all damage seemed repaired. I used the treatment 1.5 years ago and my hair is still wonderfully smooth. The only drawback I found was for the first 5-6 months, my hair would not hold a curl. April 11, 2014
Steer Clear! If you are a blonde, steer clear of this. I was a nice, light, about 9.5A blonde before I used this. My hair is naturally curly, and always starts to frizz this time of year. I applied exactly as per the instructions.....and the minute the flat iron touched my hair, it turned goldenrod yellow. This awful, terrible, mustardy yellow color, very bright and VERY noticeably not right. I panicked, and tried to wash it all out, without flat ironing more than that first section. While the rest of my hair seems to be okay, that section is still fluorescent yellow, and I'm going to have to dye my whole head of hair to cover it up. Horrified by this product, and that it doesn't contain a warning. I've tried several at home keratin treatments, and they ALL do this. So I guess that if you're a blonde, its no keratin treatments for you, period. So unhappy and upset, I wish I had my money back for this! April 4, 2014
