Rated 1 out of 5 by Hate to complain I hate to complain about anything from Sally Beauty as this is the first time I've ever had an issue with any of the items they sell. I went out of state and I forgot my hair wax that I usually use, and I decided to stop at Sally Beauty and try this out. I liked that it said "No Stick, No Gunk, No Funk," but there is a stick and there is a gunk and the smell is funky. As a professional cosmetologist, I do not recommend this product, and that's sad because I love Sally Beauty items and Beyond the Zone makes great products for the hair--but not this one. There are other products that work better that are available at Sally Beauty and by Beyond the Zone in particular. I just wasn't happy with this wax as it didn't keep my hair in place when I was indoors. There's zero hold to it! August 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Adds texture This is a sticky putty that I use to add texture to my beachy waves. I use only the tiniest amount and rub it between my fingers to smooth it out before applying it randomly to the midlengths and ends. It has a matte finish and is very thick so a little bit is all that's needed. I also use it to add grip when I wear my hair in an updo. It's very good for this and my hair stays in place really well when I use it. It adds weight so that braids look thicker and they hold much better. Like I said, I use a very small amount so this jar will last a very long time. I've tried matte texture sprays but they don't add quite as much thickness and weight as this putty. It would also work really well for spikier styles. It has a bit of hold to it too, which is why it works so well. When I wear my hair down, I put a small amount on my fingers, rub it around on my palms and then lightly touch my hair underneath. However, once I do this, I definitely need to wash my hair soon after because the next morning it's a tangled mess. Don't even think of running a brush through your hair after using this, just FYI. It washes out easily though, so no worries there. All in all, it works well for me in the two ways I use it. I definitely recommend it. July 21, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for my hair I have fine hair. This product lets me fluff and style by increasing hair volume, but it doesn't weigh down my hair. March 18, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Its decent, but could be better... Beyond the Zone is a professional hair care supplier, and has a good reputation among barbers and cosmetologists. Recently I purchased BTZ Rock On matte clay. It has a pleasant smell, nothing too strong, and its not a harsh chemical smell. As far as texture and effect on my hair, it wasn't that great, and here's why. On the cover, it says; "No stick, no gunk, no funk." When i put it in my hair, the first thing that happened was it gummed in my hair and made it sticky, so i was kind of put off by that, however, my hair is very very thick, and medium length, so its not that bad. However as far s the hold strength goes, this isn't something you want to get is you are spiking your hair or doing a slick back or a pompadour. It would be much better used if u simply want to hold your hair in place or add a bit of texture. Its really not that impressive of a product, which is too bad because I like BTZ. I might use this on a client with thin, short hair, and only a small bit in order to hold a comb-over in place, really not much else. I wouldn't try this with a mousse in either, that would just make your hair disgusting..all in all, its a mediocre product. October 17, 2014
