Extremely disappointed! I have come to see L'Oréal as a leader in cosmetics and hair care but found this product to fall quite short of those standards. It was a runny, sloppy mess. It dripped everywhere after application to include staining my walls, floor and toilet seat. Furthermore, a day after applying it, my hair was a strawberry blonde at best rather than the "rich auburn" advertised. Not at all what I expect from L'Oréal. June 23, 2015
I am writing this review because when I was searching through them, I could find one relevant to my situation. About a month and a half prior to using this product I dyed my hair a dark brown using a dye from a company . My roots at this point had grown out about an inch, so essentially my ends where a dark brown and my color basically went subtly lighter the closer it got to my roots. All-in-all, my hair at this point looked a mess before using preference hi-life. I purchased this product because I wanted to lighten my hair up 1-2 shades, I knew that is about as much as I could expect, if that, with my hair having been dyed before. This product worked just as I had anticipated, but let me impart this advice on anyone else in my situation planning on using this product, if your ends or the middle of your hair is darker, put the dye on them first so they have accurate time to lift. My hair is almost to my waist, so I put my hair in a long, low hanging ponytail and did the ends of my hair aka the ponytail first. I let it sit for about 35-40 mins, then did my roots and left it for about 10 mins while keeping a close eye on them. If you do not want to end up with orange roots, then this is a must. My roots still lifted a little quicker than I anticipated because this product is STRONG, but my hair is still all one nice shade of light brown with only a subtle, natural looking difference in tone. My hair is filled with red tones, but this product did not expose any of them the way that I had initially worried it might/ had been warned it would. All this stated, if you're using this product as a substitute for straight bleaching thinking it isn't going to damage your hair, think again. This is a hi-lift color, it is still doing the same thing and my hair was just as damaged as if I would have gone to the salon and got my stylist to do this. However, since my budget is tight at the moment, this was a great, cheap substitute. If you have dyed darker hair, do not expect your color to match that on the box. If you have virgin hair then you'll probably get a pretty decent color match. If you have dyed black hair, do not attempt to use this product, it is not going to improve your situation what so ever, in the past I have dyed my hair black multiple times, so I know what I'm talking about. You'll have to use a light bleach to lift it a little then dye it a brown shade, if you're going lighter than that and do not have experience with processing your hair at home, I urge you to seek a professional because you are definitely going to need their help. So this is literally it for my review, I covered all the questions I could think of or had seen while I was looking for reviews. I wish everyone well with their results and if you're trying to experiment, I urge you to take the time to red up on hair chemistry and color matching before you try anything. June 20, 2015
Short notice on out of town trip. Dark blonde roots with a touch of gray.No time to make appointment with expensive Beverly Hills colorist. Took a chance on this out of the box color and it paid off. Beautiful results for less than 10 dollars. Saved $ 290.00. I'm now a fan. Why have I been spending so much? June 14, 2015
