LOVE THIS!!! I've had red hair on three different occasions and this is my go to dye. It's bright, vibrant, and doesn't fade too fast. I have a cool skin tone so most shades of red aren't very flattering on or around me but the pink undertones in this dye gives me a beautiful color that doesn't wash me out. I've used this hair dye by itself, mixed with the l'oreal hi color in red hot (This combo gave me the best color in my opinion), and with l'oreal hi color in intense red. I've found that most times when people have problems with any of these dyes it's due to the application and not the actual product. You have to understand before dyeing your hair red that it will fade faster than other colors and you will need to dye it around once a month to keep up a vibrant shade. I normally can get a month and a half to two months wear out of one application before the color gets dull. Also if your hair is super dark DO NOT expect to get insanely bright hair in one application with 30 vol. developer. You may need dye it twice to get the desired color and/or use a 40 vol. developer. It's good to have high expectations but they must also be realistic. For example if you have jet black hair you probably aren't going to be that bright color after one application and if you have lighter brown or blonde hair don't expect a dark subtle red. Make sure you're prepared for the cold showers and upkeep that comes along with red hair and don't b**** and complain about it afterwards if you decide you can't handle it. Really research and make sure this is something you want because it is and investment and it's a killer to get rid of too. Happy dyeing! :) July 15, 2015
Faded after 1st wash I dyed my hair with this twice in 1 week because it washed out after the 1st shampoo. Followed all the directions and even waited 48 hours after the second attempt and it still washed out and left me with copper colored hair instead of the bright red I wanted. June 8, 2015
Professional Opinion I have read some of the reviews of this product and some of the customers that have not received a positive outcome with this product needs to realize is that color will not lift color when a previous color has been placed on the hair. When this product is placed on virgin hair the outcome is amazing. I am a professional and use a level 3n on my hair every 4 weeks to cover grey .(which is a dark brown) I have long side bang in the front of my hair line and wanted to color it the Magenta. I did have to lift the hair with a 20 volume developer and lifting powder like a soap cap just for about 15 minutes prior to using the Hi color. I then used the hi color balayaged it in on the ends of my bang with a 20 volume for 25 minutes and the results were amazing. I have had minimal fading as well. I would recommend this to anyone who knows how to use this product. June 1, 2015
If your looking for dye that will give you bright red hair without having to bleach, this is probably the best product around. I used it for quite a few months and was CONSTANTLY complimented on my hair wherever I went. However now that I'm trying to go to a more natural red, I find it hard to recommend it. There are several sections of my hair that WILL NOT retain color. I tried twice to have it done at a salon and it didn't even take. Its possible it's because my hair is so fine, either way I'm pretty upset about the blond pieces. I can't bring myself to give this product an awful rating because it did what i wanted and the result was fantastic. But it can be damaging. March 3, 2015

I recently just dyed my hair with Feria hair dye the color Deep Violet and it turned burgundy but only in my roots so will this still work and even out my hair? And does the HiLights work on previously dyed hair or just virgin hair?

I don't advise trying to bleach it out because you'll get a very nasty orange/red color. The dye does have bleach in it and is activated with the developer to lighten your hair and give it that bright color. If you want to get rid of the color I would try using a color stripper (you'll still probably get an orange color but it's less damaging and works just as well) and then dying over it. If you aren't going to strip it try to pick a color or use an additive that will cancel out the red. I hope this helps!

A:
Permanent hair color chemically alters the natural pigment of the hair—permanently—by lifting (lightening) the natural pigment in your hair and depositing the permanent hair color you selected in its place. Using permanent formulas means your color will remain until your hair grows out (aka your “roots” start showing), you cut it off, or you remove it with a hair color remover.
