Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lift old color without ammonia Hi! I just wanted to share my experience. I had been coloring my hair with demi permanent shades for a while, and over time, my hair became stained darker than it was originally. I had read online that if you mix the Clear Mix tones with the 20 volume Clairoxide (in equal parts), you can lift virgin or colored hair up to 2 levels. Now, I hadn't colored my hair for around 8 months, so I had pretty substantial roots. I decided to ombre my hair, leaving my roots as they are naturally, and try to lift my ends back to their original color. I should probably mention that my roots are between a 6 and a 5, and my ends were level 7 originally because of the sun. Now, I couldn't use bleach powder to lighten my hair, because I am allergic to ammonia. I did a strand test, and 20 minutes was long enough to get to the level I wanted with the Clear Mix tones and Clairoxide combination. So, yesterday, I tried it! As it was processing, my hair didn't go through the "stages" of bleaching. It was almost like it took the color that was on my ends and lifted it a couple of shades! I ended up with level 7 hair, with copper glints when the light hits it. Amazingly, just lightening the ends of my hair, made my hair look lighter over all! I'm very pleased with my results! Thank you so much!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clairol Professional Demi Mix Tone Cool Froid At last! Tried everything to get the orange/brass out of my light brown/dark blonde hair! I added 1/2 tube of this to 1 full tube of the 8A (light cool blonde)...both demi as I don't want to keep recreating orange (happens with any lift on me). It will darken/deepen the blond color, so don't go too dark with the color tube. It really, really worked to get out the orange. And because my overprocessed brassy hair was so porous, it hasn't washed out much at all. Which is good but another reason to be careful of how long you leave it on and what color you mix it with. I wouldn't use it alone as it'll leave a bluish cast instead of a cool color. It looks blue/violet after a few minutes, if this scares enough products to do two applications. Leave one on for only 10 mins...if not enough try again for longer. Better not enough than too much! After trying all the Wella toners, brass reducing add-ins, etc., I think I've finally found a good solution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well I recently bleached my hair blonde from dark brown. However the blonde was all different shades so I wanted to cover it up. This did the job well, however the top of my head still has an orange tone to it. Which I wish this dye covered that up. Overall 7N is a beautiful neutral color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Demi Haircolor Yet I'm about 50% gray and in my 60's with fine, brittle hair. I use demi color because I hate the look of roots growing in and would rather have it uniformly fade all over, plus my hair is too fine and porous for permanent color. I've tried every drugstore box brands as well as the brands Sally's carries in the demi formulas and this is the 1st one I'm truly happy with. It's gentle with very little odor and lasts longer than any other. It also covers gray much better yet leaves my hair shiny and in much better shape than the others. My search is over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the replacement for Clairol Luminize Have been using for 12+ years. Am a 50+ natural blonde little to no gray yet. Of course natural roots come in slightly dark. Every 8 weeks or so I use the Clear Mix. (no color) I use Clairoxide 20 volume clear developer. 2oz added to the 2oz clear mix. Starting with just the roots and hair line area. Leave on for 15 min., use remaining for additional 5 min. Shower out and condition. I also like Ion Color Defense After Color Sealer (conditioner) The Clear Mix lifts my natural hair color 1 level, and looks natural. No artificial color, roots grow in natural looking slightly darker which is natural for a blonde. I have shoulder length hair with longer layers. The healthy feel and shine after wards is amazing. Most times the clear mix is not always in stock at the store, so I now buy online 8 mixes, 16 oz of developer, 20 oz of conditioner. No shipping fee, delivered to door once a year. If I need more developer that is always in stock at store. Husband loves natural look and feel. So do I.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use For years, I've been using this product line. It's easy to combine different colors to come up with my desired, customized color. Plus, I have control of the amount to mix up - an advantage over boxed products. Appreciate online purchasing. Prefer in-store shopping but the closest location is three hours from us.

Hi-I have a severe sulfur allergy.  Is this product sulfate free?  If not can you recommend a product that is?

Asked by: Paula Daly
If your allergy is that severe I would certainly contact the manufacturer to make sure. I wouldn't go on anyone's guess.

I'm trying to get a blue black color, which I've tried unsuccessfully- It's ashy black. Ion color corrector, Clairol cool Froid, and ion midnight blue black was suggested to me to get the desired effect. Is this feasible?

Asked by: MarybethBryant
I was using a light ash brown and it was discontinued. Sally's recommended a neutral brown, which turned out black. It's been weeks and I have tried everything and it has just begun to lighten a little. Very disappointed.

I am trying to duplicate the old Clairol born blond toner shade of Innocent Ivory. I read that Clairol Demi Permanente shades 10A and 10N combined would give me the results I seek. However, I cannot find a 10A offered. Have I misunderstood the options?

Asked by: Darla1938
Hello, and thank you for your question. Unfortunately, 10A is no longer available online. We apologize for the inconvenience.

No more 6R or warm mix tone?

Sally no longer carries 6R or the warm mix tone in this product. Neither of these shades appear to have been discontinued on the Clairol website. I have not seen any demi-permanent hair color that compares to 6R. I am extremely disappointed in Sally's decision to no longer stock these shades.

On bleached hair?

I have bleached the ends of my hair for an ombre. The result was actually really pretty and I've kept it for a couple of weeks but now I'm looking into getting them back to their natural color, which is a light ash brown/dark ash blonde. Will this dye work for that?
