This is a great product. Reluctantly, I used this on my daughter's afro hair. Here is the answer to the million dollar question I looked for all night. To keep the afro texture and "soften only", you only have enough time to comb thru while applying. Otherwise, you will straighten your childs hair! My daughter's hair is EXTREMELY thick and coarse. Believe me! I broke down because her hair is so unmanageble. In my opinion, the processing time on the box is too long. If I had followed it, her hair would be straight.

I used this product today for the first time and I loved the results. I am transitioning from relaxing my hair bone straight to leaving a little bit of texture to it (texlaxing). I wanted my combination 4b/c hair to still have a slight wave to it and this did just that. It is silky soft and manageable. I didn't follow the timing instructions. I feel it's unrealistic. Because this is so mild, I didn't worry about timing it, I just took my time applying and smoothing.

Okay lets get this straight people...THIS IS A RELAXER, the only difference is that you put oil in your hair first and then you pour the rest into the relaxer. Which you can do with any relaxer, that is called texlaxing. Which I had been doing for years, but didn't know there was a name for it. However I've been using this for 2 years and I do like this product. There is a big difference between my ends that have profectiv relaxer on them and my newer growth that has the texture softener, It seems to retain moisture better and feels silky even when I air dry w/o any product in my hair.
