Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tried and true T18 T18 is by far one of the best toners for platinum hair if applied correctly. I use it right after bleaching with ion 10 volume developer applying it to the roots for 5 minutes then I pull it through to my ends where I leave it for another 5 minutes making a total of 10 minutes that it's been on my head. Note everyone's hair is different so your processing times might be as well, but you should never leave it on for 30 minutes unless you want purple hair. Also this is meant to be applied to damp towel dried hair and if you use it on completely dry hair it will process more quickly. Your hair has to be lightened to a pale yellow (think the almost white of the inside of a banana peel) if you're expecting this toner to make your hair platinum/silver/white. I would also recommend against using 20 volume because I've found I get more colour deposit with 10 volume and it's less damaging. My only complaint after using these toners for years and trying others is it's one of the harshest toners on the scalp I mean this stuff is strong and really stings, but it gives the best results so if you can take a little pain it's worth it because none of the other toners at Sally's really compare.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works wonders! I have naturally dark brown hair and recently got balayage which came out too brassy for my liking. A friend recommended this toner and after leaving it on for 35 minutes, I was so pleased with the results! One problem (my fault) was putting it on my roots which are not currently colored and it made them slightly brassy. To fix that I left Joico blue shampoo on my roots for 10 minutes and it's mostly back to my normal color. WI'll definitely use this toner again!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from T 18 I've tried purple toning shampoos, which seem to turn my hair a silver purple color, so I decided to try this. I've bleached my hair (myself) ombré, so it's hard to tone since some of my hair has orange hues(I've tried blue toning shampoo on the orange parts) and some has yellow hues. I decided to try this and it was decent. I personally would have liked it to look more platinum, but there is a slight change. I left it on for 30 mins.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My FAV toner I usually tone with T18 but decided to add some lavender to my hair so I went with the ombre look created with T14. Love this brand!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! So first off I sadly do not have pictures but that's a good thing. LoL! I shaved my head in 2015 and let my hair grow so when I bleached my hair and ends it was a gorgeous blonde one more bleach through and it would have been white. I decided I was over the blonde so I went back to brown/dark brown then quickly decided to go black. Wait I know you're expecting a horror story. I loved the black hair but it turned into dirt real quick! So I started missing the blonde and went straight to bleaching my ends again. It didn't turn out like it did the first time and in my 3rd round of bleaching and toning I had to go all blonde. So became that process, I ended up getting to a level I wanted but there was spots so I went to a hairstylist she did some foiling and then two days later I went in and bleached and toned again. It was orange when it was wet I couldn't stand it. I do want to go one time with an over bleach but I highly doubt I'll get to that level I want. I used a mix of T28 and T18 I believe perfect mix. Process of going blonde from natural was two months, to black two weeks and back to blonde two weeks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Watch your time.. I bleached out a previous color and my hair was left a very yellow color. I used T18 to tone and kept a close watch. It only took my hair 4 minutes to process to a very platinum blonde. Do not leave on the full 30 minutes with out watching. Product did exactly what I was hoping for!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from T18 on balayage Used T18 to tone down brassiness on my brown to blonde balayage in between visits to the salon. Last time I had it done was probably before summer and I threw in a few messy highlights myself a few days ago. My base is virgin hair, probably about a level 4. My highlights were varying levels from 8-10 and start about midway down my shoulder length hair. My best advice is DO YOUR RESEARCH. I was worried about it tinting my base color too much, so I only used a 10 vol developer rather than 20 vol as the package suggested and I left it on for 20 minutes (max is 30). I LOVED the result, took out the yellow color in my highlights and didn't seem to have too much of an effect on my natural brown (just looked a smidge lighter and shinier). There are definitely a few coppery strands that stuck around so I might try to mix a blue based toner with the T18 next time. But the toner did exactly what it said it would.

I've seen alot of videos & comments regarding mixing the Wella Toners to achieve an icy (whiter) blonde look when hair is currently blonde. T11, T14& T18 seem to be the onces involved. What one or combination of two can be used that you could recommend?

Firstly, I am not a professional.  I have experience playing with my own hair and it is naturally ash blonde which requires very little bleaching process.  The bleaching process is a major factor when considering adding pigment to hair because bleach frays the hair follicle - making it more porous and likely to absorb color.  Both T35, and T11 are going to produce a more "warm" (think gold, or champagne) color tones for a blonde.  The "icy" look is considered "cool" (the opposite of warm/gold = cool/silver/platinum).  To begin, you will need to determine your current shade of blonde, and how warm or cool it is currently.  To avoid drastic results, it may be best to try mixing T35 with T14, and temper it with one cap full (be very careful to use just 1) of T050.  If you don't think the hair has lifted enough, or is icy enough - you can wait two-three weeks and try again with T11, T14, and one cap full of T050.  T050 is helpful to correct any brassiness or warm tones, as it will deposit the cooler violet pigments that one needs to achieve the icy looking blonde.  In general, I would use T18 with 1/2 capful of T050 to get very icy, possibly even pastel purple hair.  My own hair takes about 20-25 minutes to fully process.  Try to paint ends first, then regrowth and roots to avoid hot roots and to ensure even looking results.  Big Warning: T050 should be used *very* sparingly or else you will end up with gray hair :)

Has anyone ever used 5% no lift developer with Wella T-18? I used to have long platinum hair, but lost a lot of length due to bleaching. I'm trying to let my hair go back dark...slowly. But it still gets yellow and brassy, want to tone without more damage

If you are experiencing breakage you should give your hair a break completely. what you can do is use a vegan dye close to your natural color and leave it alone. A vegan dye will condition your hair while processing instead of damaging it even further. I'd suggest to just do that until your hair is healthy enough for you to do whatever you have planned.

I use Color Charm perm color and mix it with its developer 1:2 as directed. What do you use a toner for?

Asked by: Beachie88
Toner is used to tweak the the look of highlights and lighter pieces. It can also remove brassiness from them. Generally it is not left on the hair for the full processing time. Any color can be used as a Toner.

I have a dark drown color ,  when I dyed it with a box dye a shade lighter I got  orange roots all around my head then the rest of the hair is a brown with some red , I need the roots to look normal and the red out ,  tell me what to use please ASAP !!!

Try ash dye. Dark hair gets brassy when going lighter  Ash is cool toned it should help balance out the warm tones   You could try out blue shampoo   Or purple. What color dye you used. If going blonde use blue toned bleach first. Then use toner of choice like ash to cancel out warm tones

My colorist used ash on my hair and it turned out a reddish color on my roots. Its an ombre. Will a T18 work or a T27? I'm lost because I've tried ash and purple shampoo and it's still reddish!! Help!!

Personally I don't like the wella toners but that's my hair. I have trouble with brass as well. I don't know what color your hair is or what it was originally but maybe try blue shampoo. Purple wasn't working for me. I tried Blond Brillance toner and I liked this. But again I'm doing blondes not sure what your going for. The Shades EQ line by Redken (not available here) works well for brass issues but does NOT cover gray... so I had to stop using which I was bummed about. Shades EQ has a gloss developer u use with their color as well. Hope this helps!

My natural hair color is around level 7, would these toners lighten enough to get me more around a 9 or should I have it bleached at the salon??

Asked by: Dessabee
These toners are not to color or lighten your hair, it's used to take the brassiness out of your hair after you lighten it or bleach it.
