IN THE BEGINNING
Started in 1996, the SallyCares program was created by Sally Beauty Supply to provide much needed personal care assistance and important guidance to women in need. To achieve this, SallyCares provided outreach through 4 different segments – the SallyCares Shelter Program, SallyCares Seminars, Breast Cancer Support and the NCA Scholarship. These philanthropic endeavors were led by Ernie McCraw, a licensed cosmetologist and Director of Beauty Education for Sally, and assisted by his wife Barbara.
Today, SallyCares has evolved into a thriving program that provides donations and support to almost 50 women’s domestic abuse shelters throughout the country, as well as funds for breast cancer research through our partnership with City of Hope. SallyCares also supports the future leaders of the beauty industry by funding yearly scholarships administered by the National Cosmetology Association.
SallyCares Shelter Program & Anniversary Fund
The SallyCares Shelter Program is able to help women who have suffered the horror of domestic abuse and have found refuge in shelters across the country. Women and their children often come to these shelters with little more than the clothes they are wearing. The shelters receive little government assistance and rely heavily on private contribution. They are in constant need of donations in the form of time, money and goods.
In 2005, in celebration of the company’s 40th Anniversary, Sally Beauty established the SallyCares Anniversary Fund. So far, Sally Beauty Supply has donated over $200,000 to shelters. In 2008 Sally Beauty Supply was able to donate $44,000 to 18 different shelters to help them meet the needs of the women and children they serve.
If you represent a domestic abuse shelter and would like to receive an application to be considered for the SallyCares Anniversary Fund monies for 2009 please visit our Donation Request page at sallybeauty.com.
Breast Cancer Support
Under the SallyCares umbrella, Sally Beauty Supply also supports breast cancer research. Sally recognizes this as a major concern of customers, employees and salon clients. Sally Beauty raises contributions, now more than $2 million, to fund breast cancer research at the City of Hope.
