At Sally Beauty, clean means these items are free from 15 ingredients:
parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, formaldehyde-donors, nonophenol (NP) and nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), oxybenzone, sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), retinyl palmitate, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarbon, BHA and BHT.
What Do Parabens Do?
These are preservatives that prevent mold and bacteria from growing in beauty products. It’s possible that parabens can have harmful effects, but nothing has been proven as of yet.
Label names: methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben & ethylparaben
How Do Sulfates Work?
SLS & SLES are surfactants added to help remove unwanted dirt, residue & debris. These chemicals can strip hair of its natural oils & cause scalp irritation.
Label names: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
What Are Phthalates?
Phthalates create a creamy consistency. Overexposure to these chemical compounds may be associated with certain conditions.
Label names: Dibutyl Phthalate, Dimethyl Phthalate and Diethyl Phthalate
