Two Step by ApHogee

Two Step Protein Treatment & Balanced Moisturizer Packette

1/.75 OZ |  Item SBS-670567

What is it?
This unique treatment is formulated with magnesium and modified proteins which fuse into the hair with the application of heat. The result is that breakage is drastically reduced. During the process, ApHogee treatment hardens into the hair, dramatic evidence that something special is occurring. Restores lost moisture and hair becomes more manageable, flexible and strong. Breakage and split ends stop while hair looks and feels better.
What makes it special?
  • Use for hair that is:
  • Too weak or fine to take a perm or relaxer
  • Is mushy when wet and brittle after drying
  • Breaks when combed or brushed
  • Will not hold color
  • Is over bleached
For best results a hooded dryer is required.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonder treatment I love this treatment when I’ve taken my hair to levels hair shouldn’t be taken. I bleach harshly and my hair sometimes feels like spaghetti. This stuff is wonderful! It doesn’t smell amazing but it’s a wonderful effect after

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is actually really great! My curly hair was so so SO sad after bleaching and dying it and this helped so much :). Step one smells pretty bad but thats really the only downside, Im really glad I got this!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works! I used this prior to bleaching. It's definitely a serious protein treatment. Smells kinda rough, but it works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good treatment use every 6 weeks! I have used this treatment before, and I do feel my hair getting stronger. I LIKE IT but I must say that this treatment can be a tedious work: washing your hair, brushing it (if your hair is damage brushing it while its wet can be painful), putting the treatment, using the hair dryer at high heat and then wash it again to put the last step for two minutes. Like I said, it is a tedious work, but it is worth it, and the good thing is that you have to do this every 6 weeks and that's a winning!

I'm letting my gray hair grow in and really want to embrace it. Is this product good for gray hair? I have course hair.

Asked by: Roz00001
It works for all types of hair. It basically reconstructs your hair after its been damaged. I am African American and I also have coarse hair and it does wonders. You can use this before coloring your hair it stops it from any breakage. However, if you have any relaxer or any chemicals in your hair before using this product it will strip away all chemicals and take your hair back to its natural state.

Should you use this before or after you color your hair ?

Asked by: Anastasia B
I would recommend after bleaching but before the coloring. It has sulfates and will wash out your color. However if your goal is for a pastel look then go ahead and do it after the coloring. (I am not a professional. I have bleached and colored my hair that is all I can say on my knowledge of coloring and bleaching)

Does this fade color treated hair? I just recently touched up my roots, and I really don't want it to fade. I just have a lot of breakage (from a bad bleach job months ago), that I'm still trying to recover from. I was recommended this product.

Asked by: TiffanyDawnnnn
It shouldnt. I just went a lavender purple after bleaching and I also flat iron a few times a month. I used this stuff because I lost all my curls from bleaching and my hair felt stringy. I was nervous about loosing color but my hair was so bad I had to try it. Luckily it did NOT fade my color and it brought back my curls! I'm amazed! This stuff is amazing for damaged hair, especially if you are naturally curly and your pattern has changed or been totally lost. Follow directions to a tee.

I bleached my hair and then months later attempted to perm it to get my curls back how they were before the bleach. Would one treatment work or should I do multiple . And do I have to wait a certain amount of time between the treatments?

I bleached my hair consistently for over a year and it was fried!  Once I found out about protein treatments, I waited about 8 weeks in between them.  I think I went through 3 or 4; I did notice some elasticity return to my hair but I also stopped bleaching it at this point.  In addition to this I did a coconut oil treatment once a week to try and give it some moisture. That being said, I would ask your hairstylist that performed the bleaching and perm before you start a protein treatment regimen.  They should know what your hair can tolerate in terms of protein treatments that may be too strong. Hope this helps!

Does this work on relaxed hair? Ive been using box relaxers which seem to be leaving buildup on my hair. Ive switched back professional relaxers which took better than the box relaxers but I'm hoping this product will help soften and moisturize my hair.

Asked by: BrittneyT
Yes this is great for relaxed hair. It will help stop breakage and make the hair stronger. It stings a little but it’s worth it. I use it for strength and the SheaMoisture  Coconut for moisture and to soften my hair.

Can this be used 3 days prior to getting hair bleached!? I’m going from a dark brown to blonde.

Asked by: Chichi57
Yes! It helps to strengthen your hair which you will need prior to bleaching which will weaken your hair. I apply to my hair a couple days before my relaxer and color.

I used henna on my hair about 2 months ago, will using Aphogee react badly with the Henna since henna stays in your hair shaft and doesn't lift like hair color? My shoulder-length hair is very fine textured, thin, curly with porous ends and fairly dry.

Asked by: jetttaylor
It's a superficial protein treatment. It will not lift henna or hair dye. It simply coats the hair with protein as a quick fix to damaged hair, and eventually washes out.

I used the ApHogee 2 step tx for the 1st time yesterday, my hair became horribly dry last night, Coconut Oil applied, AM I noticed a lot more shedding occurring. Is it normal for this to happen? Can step 2 be used alone to continue to add moisture?

Asked by: Crackerjack
I would look at anything else you added to your routine, because the odds of it being step two are highly unlikely. Step one is a protein treatment, which will strengthen but won't do anything about moisture. Step two is there to balance your hair out and prevent any breakage from having too much protein and not enough moisture. Basically, it's not step two that dried your hair out because it's just a regular deep conditioner. And yes, it can be used alone to add moisture. I would assume you bleached or dyed your hair recently if you're using the two step and coconut oil. That's more likely why your hair feels dry and is shedding. Keep in mind, we shed about 100 hairs a day. It could very well be normal shedding.

Can this treatment be used if you put relaxers on your hair?

Asked by: Laffy taffy
Yes, it's only a superficial protein treatment. Which means it's only going to coat the outside of your hair, and eventually wash out. It won't affect your relaxer.

Does that protein alter the hair color ex: I have silver hair was re touching my roots and when hairdresser finished it was red/orange could the protein have had anything to do with it?

Asked by: Carlz 111
Yep. It usually left my blonde with a red/orange tint after. Nothing a violet conditioner couldn't fix.

The writing on the package is so small, can you tell ne the directiions fir step one

Asked by: Vellis51
This is how I use it 1) Clarifying shampoo (I generally use sulfate free unless I'm getting rid of buildup). 2) Towel dry so that my hair is wet but not dripping. It'll make application easier and more even. 3) Pour the protein treatment into a bowl and apply it with a brush. This stuff is sticky af and will harden as it dries. Try not to brush it. 4) Blow dry until all of your hair is super crunchy. Don't be tempted to manipulate it too much. 5) Rinse out with warm water. 6) This is when you put in step two, the deep conditioner. It says to leave it in for a couple of minutes, I generally leave it in for 20min. 7) Rinse out, and boom. Super soft hair!

How should I dry my hair when using this product if I don't have a hooded dryer?

Asked by: koolkat87
I know it's been four months since you have written this, but what I have done at home is sit and use my blow dryer and just moved it around so it didn't sit on one spot.  Make sure you blow it down meaning have the blower facing down along side the hair.  Also, I placed a towel around me by the neck and shoulders so I didn't have any protein treatment running on my skin/clothes.  It gets rather sticky.  Hope it helps!

Is this good for natural hair?

I'm not sure what curl pattern I have (4a,4c). I have been natural for almost 3 years, but my hair seems to be lacking something, my sister in law went natural after I did and her hair is so soft, curly and shine oh and long, mines is brittle dull life less and short. I did dye my hair with the Creme of Nature a reddish blonde, my natural color hair is a mousy brown, after that I notice a lot of breakage. I was told to try Aphogee or some type of protein in my hair, I'm a little scaried that my hair will fall out or I want get the correct results ( more damage) oh and by the way I don't use heat in my hair can someone please help me direct me in the right direction. Thank you Peace and Love

If your hair did not respond to the this Treatment you should try seeing what Porosity Hair AND hair type you have. Once you find out what porosity hair and hair type you have SEARCH FOR PRODUCTS AND REVIEWS BASED ON YOUR RESULTS because there are certain products for low, medium and or high porosity hair ALONG with your hair type which could be 4A, 4B or 4C. If you have low porosity hair you would stay away from protein treatments and use daily conditioners with humectants such as glycerin or honey. As for hair type 4b; a lot of moisture, gentle cleansers and frequent deep conditioning will be helpful for NATURALS with 4b hair. If you have a perm or relaxer you can do the same except I would recommend using shampoo and conditions for relaxed hair but you can still use natural hair products just do your research and reviews first. EVERYTHING IS A HIT OR MISS OR ELSE WE'D ALL HAVE PERFECT HAIR so be prepared to buy products that MAY NOT WORK.

How long after dying my hair should I wait to use this treatment? I am not using bleach just brown permanent dye.

Asked by: Alexisgm
If you just dyed your hair, I would wait a couple of weeks before using the protein treatment, even if it is just brown dye. From what I've read online and heard from my hairdressers, you need to be very careful when using protein treatments because they can easily damage your hair if it is under too much stress.

How often can we use this product?

Asked by: Stella
(On official site) ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment strengthens most hair approximately six weeks. In contrast, most other treatments and conditioners are removed with two or three washings. Because of this, the recommended frequency for ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment is once every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair maintenance regimen. If applied more often, it’s unlikely that any further benefit will be obtained.

Is this product the same as Colorful Nuetral Protien Filler?

I bleached my hair twice, in the last two months. The first time I died my hair pink, and purple, the semi-color didn't stay very well. Than I decided to go red, and used a permanent red dye, the dye washed out in a week, I decided to try another red and see if it stuck, no such luck. Now the red is washing out pretty quickly so I've decided to go back to my natural color which is very dark brown to black, but I want to make sure the dye I use will stay in my hair and evenly coat it. Please help.
Asked by: Doodles
When you lighten your hair you remove color pigment from it so there are small "potholes" so to speak which allow for any new pigment introduced to fall out more quickly. The best way to prevent this from happening is to wash your hair with cold water, use only sulfate free color safe shampoos and if you're wanting to go back to a dark color get a "filler" that reintroduces some of the pigments that you had naturally prior to lightening. This will help you hair seem healthier and ensure the color will last longer.
