Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lightener, but not as lifting. Its a good lightener if you're ok with only lifting like 2-3 levels. It made my hair a nice light brown at a level 7 the most. I got the best result by toning with a t11 and then i toned it again with a blue shampoo. After i gave myself a protein treatment with Aphogee, followed by Not your Mothers hair mask deep condition. My hair came out damage free.

Do I need to use a toner with this product? if so, what toner do you suggest?

Asked by: Tara3345
No, no toner! There's a product specificslly made to mix with this. It's also made by Wella, and it's called Painting Balayage Developer ($1.99 for the 2 fl oz. Bottle beat to go with this packet)

Would this lighten my natural black hair enough so I can dye it to a medium brown?

Asked by: GladysGraceH
Im not a professional, I just happen to know this will only be enough to turn your hair orange. The medium brown may cover it, but I dont know.

I want to get ash brown balayage. I have dark brown hair . How can I get that color?

Asked by: Rodri214
You can use this lightener, but you will have to put a demi permanent color like Wella Color Charm 10NA over the newly highlighted areas, otherwise it will be orange. Then start using a purple masque weekly on your ends to help bring out that ashy color you are looking for.

I have not colored my hair in over 5 years. My natural hair color, dark brown, is now completely grown out. I love that my hair is soft and shiny but I'm getting bored with it. Is this product safe to use on basically virgin hair?

Asked by: katmoon24
I used this on my hair (that hasn't had any chemicals for over 6 years); I did notice some split ends after i used this but my hair is still soft and it lightened my hair to a natural lighter color, about 2 shades. Safe for virgin hair, but expect some damage.

I’m trying to achieve a look with brown auburn and blonde what would be the best dyes and would I need a lighter if I have dark hair

Asked by: kaisenmom
You don't say how dark your natural hair is. If it's black or colored black you would definitely would need to bleach all of your hair. If it's brown, the places where you want to paint blonde will need to be bleached. The auburn will give you nice red tones over brown hair. With the lightening packet you will need to mix with a developer. 30 volume will lift about 2-4 shades. You may have to lighten it more than one time. I prefer the ION colors. They seem to be true to the color stated on the box. Note 1: Your hair needs to be in excellent condition to a complete this look. Use a good conditioner 2-3 times/week for a couple of weeks ahead. Note 2: This is a complex process and if you are not completely comfortable doing this at home, it might be best to go to a professional. Good luck!
