ion Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color is a state-of-the-art European Ionic Formula that is a luxurious, long-lasting, deposit-only hair color without ammonia. This hair color covers and blends gray hair up to 100% without lifting the hair's natural pigment. The formula will allow same-day color with chemical relaxers and permanent waves.

ion Hair Color’s superior quality, proprietary blends are formulated in Italy by our expert team of chemists to deliver unparalleled results. Our unique system combines the finest quality natural and exotic ingredients with powerful high-tech compounds to achieve exquisite, brilliant color with superior gray coverage. ion Hair Color science relies on the power of micro-pigmentation—our microscopic pigment molecules oxidize slower, allowing them to penetrate deep into the cortex of each hair strand for long-lasting, fade-resistant color.

ion's formulas are PPD-free and enriched with Hyaluronic Acid, Argan Oil, Pequi Oil, and botanicals to nourish and strengthen hair from within. Not to mention, ion Hair Color is gentle on hair, containing up to 38% less ammonia than the leading professional brands on the market. Unlock your hair’s true potential with Ion’s cutting-edge, salon-quality color science and bring home vibrancy like never before.

The Ionic formula provides protection for stronger hair structure. ion Color Brilliance Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color contains botanically derived nourishing ingredients with a refreshing fragrance.

  • Select desired shade. Mix 2 oz. of ion Intensive Shine Demi Hair Color with 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 Volume in a non-metallic bowl. Mixing ratio is 1:2 unless otherwise noted. All instructions are based on average texture, normal porosity; Fine hair is much more receptive to hair coloring where coarse hair is not.

Use ion Color Brilliance Pre-Color Treatment to help ensure even color results from scalp to ends. A five-minute cool down is recommended if heat is used prior to rinsing. Standard processing time is 10-40 minutes at room temperature and 10-15 minutes with heat. After processing, rinse hair thoroughly until the water runs clear. Shampoo and style as desired.
  • Demi-permanent hair color is the most versatile kind of haircolor, because it lasts much longer than semi-permanent color (up to six weeks). It is sometimes referred to as deposit-only hair color or non-lift deposit-only color, because it’s formulated to deposit (add), but not to lift (lighten) color. Demi-permanent color is ideal for blending or covering gray (up to 100 percent!) and enhancing, deepening, or changing the tone of your natural color. It also adds intense shine.

Always wear gloves. Using a non-metallic bowl or tint bottle, mix 2 oz. of ion Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color with either 2 oz. or 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 volume. Apply mixture immediately after mixing to dry hair. Do not store mixture; container may burst.

For natural, non-color-treated hair (virgin application):  Apply  formula to the scalp area.  Immediately work through mid-lengths and ends.

For Retouching:  Apply formula to the scalp (new growth) area.  Process for half the recommended processing time, and then work formula through the mid-lengths and ends.  Finish processing. Because 45-50% of color loss is attributed to shampooing, it is imperative to use hair care products formulated for color-treated hair.

Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible, Unreliable product I remembered today why I haven't used ION Color in over 5+ years. It's horrible. You would be better off buying a Semi Permanent in the store. At least you would get close to the color on the box. I bought the Light Red Brown Semi Permanent used with 10 Vol Developer over level 4 hair. All I wanted was a burgundy tone. Left in on for 15 minutes and it is JET BLACK with not a HINT of red! Plus it was ridiculously messy and liquidy. Horrible! I will never buy this brand again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ion Demi 8N As with most demi hair colors, this one will come out much darker than the actual level you're trying to achieve, so be aware of this - takes some time to fade out. I didn't love the tone of this hair color and will not buy it again. Specifically, it came out very flat and gray toned, almost as if it were an ash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy to use & great color The very helpful lady at Sally Beauty suggested I try the demi before the permanent color to make sure I liked the color. I'm a newbie at coloring my hair at home and wanted something very easy to use and this is it. My hair is just as soft as it was before coloring, unlike when I tried a drug store box brand and it felt like straw after. I'm very happy with the color and will use the permanent type next.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've used it for 8+ years. Love it I've used it for many years and my hair looks great. Covers my greys, at least for 3 weeks because my hair grows so fast. Only bad is that the stock in stores is very erratic... I have to go several times to all stores in the area to find the color I want. Sallys needs to improve the product availability at stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I wanted shiny healthy-looking hair without changing my natural color and that is exactly what this did for me. I purchased the color 00 Clear in a store on the advice of the saleswoman. Off topic, but I gotta say, each time I've been in the Sally store, I've come away with a product I'm happy with. This product made my hair look years younger! My hair came out shiny and soft and so far its held up through about 6 shampoos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted! After reading for hours I finally decided to bite the bullet. I have natural level 5-6 medium brown hair and after years of bleaching have been left with warm, brassy not flattering “blonde” hair. I decided it was time to get back to my natural. I had level 8-9 brassy hair and I decided to use a mixture of 2 parts 8N to 1 part 10N and 10 vol to dye my hair. I wanted to end up about a level 7 light brown. I was very worried about it going too dark as the reviews said but I’m happy with my choice, turned out just the right color. Definitely recommend going up 2-3 levels lighter than your desired color. Overall, great product! Loving it so far

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delightfully Surprised I used the 6VV on my hair and the color came out really pretty, I received a lot of compliments and it gave my hair a nice shine. I reccomended the 9NA as a toner all the time to customers while I worked at Sally's, and one time I forgot to tell a customer to do 1 to 2 parts when toning blonde hair. It says to do that in the directions when toning, but the customer was so mad when she called, but it's an easy fix if that happens, just get an ion clarifying packet and it'll take some of the pigment out. Long story short, ALWAYS read directions!! This color can be used 1 to 1 when you want a lot of deposit and 1 to 2 for toning or enhancing faded color. Also, the longer you leave it, the darker it will get.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed I’ve been using ion hair colours for about 5 years. I was going for a purple gray colour and as that was the colour of the test hair that was under the box colour, instead my hair went red. :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this Demi I was looking to try to get ride of some cooper tones in my brown hair so mixed 5N with 6G. It was dark at first but after a couple of washes it lightened up to a gorgeous chocolate brown. There are a lot of reviews saying negative things about how dark their hair turns out. I have found that with most demi permanent hair color that it is anywhere from 2 to 4 shades darker than the color listed (with the darker colors it is usually about 2 shades darker but with the lighter colors it is closer to 4 shades darker). I used a level 5 and a level 6 on level 5 brown hair and the initial color was around a level 3 (dark brown). It has been about a month or so and my hair is now a very pretty level 4.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love ion demi color I love ion demi permanent color. It is the only thing I can use on my hair without getting horrible headaches. I used to use permanent color (clairol, loreal, etc) but after many years the headaches were horrible and the problem was finally traced to the chemicals in hair color. After researching ingredients in hair color, the ion brand demi permanent was the only safe one for me. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because the colors are so off. The blondes are very dark so I mix the lightest with another blonde shade to get the color I want. Safe for me to use and so very much more economical.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from MEDIUM BLONDE MADE MY HAIR BLACK I used to have naturally light blonde hair. I bought this bc my natural hair color was sadly changing to dark blonde and i wanted to blend out my roots with the rest of my hair. I bought medium instead of dark to be on the safe side and used the color chart. I used 1×1 like the directions said since the bottom of my hair needed to be deepened. I used the minimum amount of time with no heat. It made my hair BLACK. And it faded to a dark brown. Now instead of light hair with dark roots, i have black hair with light roots. Forget about making my hair look more natural, now it doesnt even look normal!!! Saddest part is that the whole it should wash out after 30 washes is a lie. I waited for about 90 washes before i had somewhere to go and had to redye my hair with this garbage just to match the roots and the second time i did it it made my roots orange!! Now i got orange roots with black hair. Wish i read the online reviews before i went anywhere near this product but i bought it at the store...also i am experienced with demi dyes and i know they dont work the same as perminant. I knew what i was doing when i used this product. But how can blonde dye possibly go black even if u were to mess it up anyway

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time use I bought the product today color 3N in natural medium brown and mixed it with a 10 vol. developer cream. I did a ratio of 1:1 for full coverage and kept it on for 25 mins. I must say I really like the results. The color is very rich and leaves you with nice shiny hair ! I am certainly going to buy this again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use. Naturally, I am a level 6 to 7 reddish deep blonde. I apply a mixture of primarily level 8 natural blonde with a 1/2 ounce of level 6 copper blonde to get the resluts I need. Demi Permant colors are designed to be deposit only. I found its best to go a shade or two lighter than desired end result, to get my best color match. Have never acheived grey coverage with this product. Greys are blended or "toned" even after 30-40 minutes of process time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Blonde Colors After growing out my natural Red hair and using "temporary" Overtone colors, Rose Gold For Brown & Red Hair, Vibrant Pink, Copper... I decided to go back to Blonde... It's not easy going from Red to Blonde even harder when your hair has dye on it, but I graduated from Cosmetology and have 20+ years of Hair Coloring and Bleaching. I used the Ion Cream Bleach with 30 volume development and my hair came out bright orange with the ends a bright peach color (from the Rose Gold) I decided to use Ion Intensive Shine Demi Permanent in Medium Natural Blonde and very happy with the results. My hair came out All Even, a Beautiful Natural looking Medium Blonde, not too dark or too light, no ashy green tones. My hair is in good condition. I will be keeping this Color for a long time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why My hair was a nice light golden blonde with no ash, decided I wanted to go a little darker and put some red/orange in it. I bought the 7wr, "medium warm red blonde." It made my hair GREEN. It literally looks like seaweed. I have never used a dye advertised as "red" come out green before. I've messed my hair up plenty of times before and I can say this has got to be the WORST its ever been.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product yields the results I hoped for! After about 5 blonding appointments I had achieved a fairly blonde head of hair for someone starting with quite a deep brown natural colour but decided i’d had my fun and wanted to go back to being a brunette! I did my research beforehand so I knew in order to achieve the dark brown result I was looking for without ending up with “muddy” or green looking strands I would have to fill my hair by restoring the copper/red tones that the lightening process strips away (i’ve also seen this process called a “tint back”). I purchased ion demi permanent in shades 7RV and 5N (1 tube of each was just enough to cover my whole head so if your hair is even slightly longer or thicker than mine i’d suggest getting a back up tube). I applied 7RV to my hair first which helped me restore the red pigments and also left me with some pretty violet hues! For the second process I applied the 5N to my hair which gave me the dark brown results I was looking for. The end result was quite dark which I had anticipated (remember that these shades WILL turn out darker than what they say on the box ex. 5N “Natural Light Brown” is actually going to be a very dark shade of brown). I went a little darker knowing that the colour I chose would eventually fade to a slightly lighter shade. *I mixed both shades with 5 vol developer and left on for about 20-25 mins each. I also added Ion color booster step 1 to each mix and followed up with step 2 + the after color care packet. I’m a fan of all these products because they leave my hair really silky and healthy feeling after colouring! *photos posted are the results after about 3 weeks post colour and washing hair every 2-3 days

I mix 6n & 4n for my base color and use a 15 developer for my color...if I add a glaze for shine & conditioning, if my hair typically gets brassy, should I use a clear glaze or pick something else?

Asked by: Former gray one
Glaze will dilute the color but not get rid of brassiness. Ash colors are the best way to avoid brassiness.

Is this a colorless toner so it won't change the color of my bleached hair?

Asked by: Angelann
Demi only deposits color, it will not lift color. It does seem to run dark so do a test strip to double check color. Also I use this with a 20 developer to cover grays.

Has the company ION discontinued production of the Demi-permanent color 9G Very Light Golden Blonde?  I can’t find it at your SE Michigan stores.

They seem to have discontinued all the light blonde colors in demi permanent ! I'm not happy. I tried the permanent ion brilliance in the 10 v, using a 10 volume developer. It worked well.

i bleached my dirty blonde hair and it turned orange. I’m not sure what to do next ? tone it? redye it? demi it?

Asked by: shelbysingleton
My dirty blonde hair does exactly the same thing when I lighten it, whether using bleach or peroxide.  To get rid of the orange, most people suggest a toner, but I have never had much luck with those. (Nor did any colorists, and that is I why I do my own now.)  What works for me is to mix a quarter-sized drop of blue hair color with a color that I would like my hair to be.  Sounds CRAZY, but green based toners and violets do not do a good job on my hair.  I use Age Beautiful 4B Dark Blue, which is the lightest blue I have found. First time I did it, I mixed a small amount with the Age Beautiful Clear hair color.  It completely toned down the orange to a pretty color (lighter than my own, and golden/ashy blonde, like fools' gold, but not orange or brassy), so after that I just started mixing the blue with my "target" color and the results are always really great.
