ion Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color is a state-of-the-art European Ionic Formula that is a luxurious, long-lasting, deposit-only hair color without ammonia. This hair color covers and blends gray hair up to 100% without lifting the hair's natural pigment. The formula will allow same-day color with chemical relaxers and permanent waves.

ion Hair Color’s superior quality, proprietary blends are formulated in Italy by our expert team of chemists to deliver unparalleled results. Our unique system combines the finest quality natural and exotic ingredients with powerful high-tech compounds to achieve exquisite, brilliant color with superior gray coverage. ion Hair Color science relies on the power of micro-pigmentation—our microscopic pigment molecules oxidize slower, allowing them to penetrate deep into the cortex of each hair strand for long-lasting, fade-resistant color.

ion's formulas are PPD-free and enriched with Hyaluronic Acid, Argan Oil, Pequi Oil, and botanicals to nourish and strengthen hair from within. Not to mention, ion Hair Color is gentle on hair, containing up to 38% less ammonia than the leading professional brands on the market. Unlock your hair’s true potential with Ion’s cutting-edge, salon-quality color science and bring home vibrancy like never before.

The Ionic formula provides protection for stronger hair structure. ion Color Brilliance Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color contains botanically derived nourishing ingredients with a refreshing fragrance.

  • Select desired shade. Mix 2 oz. of ion Intensive Shine Demi Hair Color with 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 Volume in a non-metallic bowl. Mixing ratio is 1:2 unless otherwise noted. All instructions are based on average texture, normal porosity; Fine hair is much more receptive to hair coloring where coarse hair is not.

Use ion Color Brilliance Pre-Color Treatment to help ensure even color results from scalp to ends. A five-minute cool down is recommended if heat is used prior to rinsing. Standard processing time is 10-40 minutes at room temperature and 10-15 minutes with heat. After processing, rinse hair thoroughly until the water runs clear. Shampoo and style as desired.
  • Demi-permanent hair color is the most versatile kind of haircolor, because it lasts much longer than semi-permanent color (up to six weeks). It is sometimes referred to as deposit-only hair color or non-lift deposit-only color, because it’s formulated to deposit (add), but not to lift (lighten) color. Demi-permanent color is ideal for blending or covering gray (up to 100 percent!) and enhancing, deepening, or changing the tone of your natural color. It also adds intense shine.

Always wear gloves. Using a non-metallic bowl or tint bottle, mix 2 oz. of ion Color Brilliance Intensive Shine Demi Permanent Creme Hair Color with either 2 oz. or 4 oz. ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer 10 volume. Apply mixture immediately after mixing to dry hair. Do not store mixture; container may burst.

For natural, non-color-treated hair (virgin application):  Apply  formula to the scalp area.  Immediately work through mid-lengths and ends.

For Retouching:  Apply formula to the scalp (new growth) area.  Process for half the recommended processing time, and then work formula through the mid-lengths and ends.  Finish processing. Because 45-50% of color loss is attributed to shampooing, it is imperative to use hair care products formulated for color-treated hair.

Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ratio 1-2 or 2-1 ? I have medium dark brown hair..going to use 5N light natural brown to cover alittle grey...what ratio do I use...I am using level 10 developer

Rated 2 out of 5 by from WAY too dark! I used 5n on my hair. I deeply regret it. My hair is barely a step above straight up black. My starting point was a light brown, about a level 7. My goal was a level 5. 5n made my hair between a level 2 or 3. I'm trying to wash it a bunch to fade it a bit but so far no luck. You've been warned. I strongly recommend picking a color that is at least 1 or 2 levels lighter than your desired result.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great coverage 100% grey hair coverage. Been using for years, saving me a lot of money and time instead of going to a salon. I leave it on for 45-50 minutes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from color too dark I used the 5N which is supposed to be light natural brown and it is more of a dark brown. I used the demi permanent and since it came out dark, I wash my hair the next day with a clarifying shampoo because that is suppose to lighten it up or help it to fade faster and it didn't work. the color is just as dark brown as it was after I did it. I was just coloring gray roots and now I have to wait for it to fade. If you want Light Brown 5N is not what you want.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from bad gray coverage, washed out fast My hair was naturally about level 3 cool toned. I am about 30% gray and wanted to just let it go, but had a special occasion coming up and wanted to try this since it is not permanent. Used a 20 developer in a 2:1 ratio, left on for 25 minutes. Some of my gray hair stayed gray, some turned yellow. I decided to let my hair rest for a couple of weeks before trying something else, used only mild non sulfate shampoo for the past 3 weeks, and all the color is gone already. Do not recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Give up the boxed color if that's what you use!!! This Demi has been amazing so far. I have extremely thin fine dark brown hair with some grey starting on top and a little throughout. It was gentle and left my hair soft. I also used the Ion cuticle sealer after.. I recommend this as the final step.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ion Demi Does it again. This demi is great, leaves my hair shiny, soft, and smelling great. I used it this time to correct a red tone problem that was caused by another demi, and I'm just never disappointed in this product's ability to make my hair look great. I mixed 7A with Clear, and the ash got my hair back to where it needs to be. It is a little bit dark, but it is a nice change and will lighten a little as it is washed anyway. Thanks Sally!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Color comes out darker than expected! Product is really great and easy to use. Only reason I would give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it definitely turned out black instead of medium brown so FYI for other customers. I am embracing it until it fades out (since it’s a Demi permanent dye) but for next go around I bought light brown hoping that will turn out as medium/dark brown.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No, I’m not their grandma Once I found this product line, I’ve never looked back. It took time to find my favorite colors but it’s the answer to making sure nobody asks me if I’m the Grandma of my young girls. Once was enough - sad face. If you have to ask, you shouldn’t, right?! With my hair, the Demi does NOT wash out and is less harsh on my hair. I only color my roots or the ends get way too dark. Pick a shade MUCH lighter than you think you need. It only deposits color so it will not lighten your hair. I wasn’t happy until I started using ash blonde shades on my clearly brunette hair. I can afford to touch up my color every 2-3 weeks doing it at home and my hair is healthy and shiny! I’ve been doing this for at least 5 years but probably more like 8 years. My stylist says I shouldn’t change a thing and my hair looks better than any other at home color she’s ever seen. I’m no beauty queen nor am I high maintenance. Once my kids are old enough, the plan is to embrace the gray. Until then, I gotta stay outta jail so I need to avoid the grandma questions for now! Buy it, you will not regret. Use the 10 Developer btw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent coverage, natural look. I’m 67 and have never typed my own hair before - was just avoiding it as long as possible. This has easy I structions, easy to use and the Color was ... just perfect. I started with Med to dark brown hair with my gray more toward the front. I had about 25% gray - in streaks. Used dark warm blond pe - Yes - DARK warm BLONDE. The result is a very natural medium brown with highlights where the gray used to be. And my hair feel good - silky. I highly recommend this if you hate roots because it washes out slower than they tell you. I was told if i washed my hair once a week, the color would last about 6 weeks. As much as I dislike washing my hair, once a week doesn’t cut it for me so it’s bn at least twice weekly. It looks great. Next week, at the 4 week mark, I’ll probably do it again. Excellent product. PS - I use ION brand shampoo, specifically for colored hair and conditioner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far I think I love it! I used this product for the first time in 7wr with some 00-clear and the matching vol 10 developer 2 weeks ago. As expected, the result was fairly dark for the first two washes, but after that the deeper almost purple tones rinsed out a chocolatey red copper brown color was revealed and im really liking it right now. I was tired of the too red / fake red color I was sporting. So I chose 7wr because I wanted to stay in the red family but not add more red. Im shooting for less wild firetruck and more emma stone :) I definitely recommend cjtting this with 00-clear especially on yojr lengths because they are usually more damaged and will soak up too much color. Im pretty sure had O used straight 7wr my lengths would have looked black. My hair- Ive been a redhead for many many years and used many many dyes, mostly semi and permanent dyes: Wella, pravana, manic panic, satin, feria, natural instincts...(naturally im a dirty blonde with some greys) and my hair grows fast so it is a constant struggle to find the right products and techniques to achieve and maintain a good healthy red shade. I find Im either way too bright red (rocked that look for a long time because I loved the silkiness from manic panic "Electric lava" but im over the way it only grabs my ends not my roots. Eventually my ends get super color saturated and my roots are still a faded dishwater tone. The contrast is not a good look) either that or with a permanent dye after 2 weeks im faded and brassy. And when I finally arrive at a shade I love, I already have roots! A couple more shampoos later and Im back to square one. :/ Lately im stryggling with uneven looking color probably from switching products since I never seems to find "the one". These days my goal is a more 'muted' and natural Auburn/copper/red tone thats not too bright, not too purple, but not orange either. Ion demi really impressed me so far, it was fairly easy to mix and apply, the smell was pleasant and the shine and condition of my hair was great! And 2 weeks later I still have a healthy shine and condition and the color faded fairly evenly. I cant wait to tweak my formulas using Ion demi, my next experiment will be 7wr with a dash or 6rc at my ashy roots and since my lengths are a great level right now Ill uses 00-clear and 6rc with a dash of 7wr. Wish me luck!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NOT DAMAGING TO HAIR I have been using this for a while after the Clairol Radiance was discontinued. I did not want to use a hair color with ammonia and this one leaves my hair natural feeling and not damaging to my hair. It is not, however, long lasting but, most importantly, it does not damage my hair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Color Perfection! Please don’t change this product! It is a bit darker than the color states on the box. But, once you’ve pinpointed the correct personal color choice, it’s a long lasting rich color. My hair always feels healthy too!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nurturing Demi Permanent I really like this product. I had been dying my hair with permanent hair color for decades. It was recommended to me to try a demi permanent hair color and I chose this one. I love how it nurtures my hair better than permanent dyes. I also like the shine I get from it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is Great! I just used this 6C demi permanent last night on my graying red roots. I had been spending quite a but at salons every 6 weeks and only sometimes did they get it right. My hair is a dark copper red or Auburn. The stylists did add information about Helpful products. But going forward I think it is less expensive to do my own research to keep up with hair color and repair changes. Thanks to encouragement from others I tried this myself, carefully partitioning my sections and using a brush with the Ion 6RC demi permanent color using a brush and very carefully sectioning my hair. Wow and wonderful results. I think I will add some 6N which I did not have but was instructed to do to tone down some very subtle redder-warmer highlights next time but for now I have an excellent result for less than the price of a tip at the salon. Great product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Intense violet demi I went into the store and i picked out intense violet demi by ion. I asked the sales person for her advice on how to get my hair at least almost the color on display she told me to mix 2oz of the dye with 2oz of the developer and to leave it in my hair for at least 45 minutes. I let the dye sit for 30-35 minutes, i noticed my hair was extremely dark.I followed her instructions and my hair is nowhere near the the display in fact my hair turned black instead of a purple color. Before hand my hair was a medium brown. Ive never had an issue with buying any products in the store untill now. This was the first time since September i have dyed my hair and i am so disappointed

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finally got my perfect color by mixing 2 colors I mixed 5N and 7NA and just applied to my roots. I LOVE IT! It's more of a true Level 5, which is my natural color. I am 20% grey and those hairs are now either brown or gold'ish color. I left it on 25 minutes. I needed to condition it really well as it was rather dry, but all hair color dries out my hair.

Can this product be used alone straight out of the bottle? I’m looking for a light golden buttery blond. What color or mix of colors should I use? I have about one third to a half gray now. I don’t want a permanent hair color. Thanks

Asked by: Skyelily
You must mix it with the developer. I use "10". The color you will get is based on how much natural color you have left and what color that is. Go to the store and ask the clerk. My hair is naturally mousey brown. My hair color after coloring is still brown which is what I want. If your hair is brown you will have to go much lighter. Ask the clerk. It may not be possible without harsh chemicals.

Can I use a 20vol developer with a Demi to do some slight lifting at my root area, or should a Demi only be used with 10 vol developer?

Are the Ion Demi hair colors still a current item, or are they being clearances? I noticed a lot of them are out of stock, including 9NB.

Asked by: StephCirar
That is why I started ordering on line because the stores had limited stock. Yes, I have found that in the 7+ years I have been using the Demi that there has been once or twice a discontinued shade. I make my own custom shade using 3 colors so I found I could adapt ... so this hasn’t been a problem for me. I have received many compliments so when I hear people say they like the shade I add a tad more of that shade that I know is bringing the compliments.

My hair is currently a medium copper brown and my white - not gray - white roots are showing 2 weeks after salon coloring. Which shade of the Ion Demi Permanent color will cover my roots but not darken my hair?

Asked by: kathie56
Always get lighter color because it comes out darker than planned in the Ion Demi-Permanent. Also, an N in the color selection will cover gray better so maybe it'll cover white better also. My hair is dark copper brown with all gray around face & I mix portions of 7WR & 8N with #10 Developer. 7WR is hard to find now.
