Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wells Demi Color What a mess! I bought the color part first, nowhere was it Rec to also purchase lotion, so I get that, then no mixing bottle or tools, very frustrating, no instructions or YouTube link, for those who have not done this before, you could be so much more helpful

Can this activating lotion be used with color charm permanent hair toner T14 instead of 20 volume developer for a less intense/harsh tone?

Asked by: Mj2020TX
I have been using activator with permanent color or toner for years. It makes the color demi! Gentler on hair, too.

I want to slightly darken the roots (root tap) with demi light ash blonde and tone the remainder of the hair to get rid of the yellow (past due for Wella toner touch up). Do they both process for the same amount of time? What order should I do/how long?

Asked by: TammyCof
I always find it a good idea not to do two processes at the same time.

I want to tone my brassy highlights and lowlights without darkening more than 1 level.  Will this work with light ash Demi color? I have lots of gray on roots but I don't care if it doesn't color the gray.  Just don't want weird color on gray.

Asked by: ALPCES68
well it depends on what kind of light ash demi color.. 8A, 7A just keep in mind don't just dump it on. You want to put it on your new growth first for 20 mins, then mist down or quickly wet your shaft and ends then put remainder of color on hair, use some shampoo to swirl it all through your hair then rinse very well and don't forget to condition. Be careful because the parts of your hair that are highlighted (if you don't wet or dampen) when you put on shaft and ends the blonder hair can "grab" a very dark color, which you don't want. I have been a cosmetologist for 39 years so I do know a little! :)

Could I use this in a 1:1 ratio (instead of 1 part color w/2 parts activator) with the wella demi-permenant color? or would this be damaging or not work as well? I am trying to blend my 25% gray hair with my dark brown hair. Thank you!

Asked by: AndreaJuliet
Best coverage is 2 to 1. It won't change your dark Doesn't lift but will hold longer on grey. I am pure bright white 100% hard to color and hold I leave it on 1 hour I have very long hair and its beautiful.

what happens if i dont use the activator lotion? will it hurt my hair?

Asked by: Anonymous
I've never not used it, it thins the color so it goes on your hair nicely. I often mix colors with great success and it helps them mix up nicely. But this stuff is good for your hair and makes it feel really healthy so I can't imagine it would hurt it.

I have the semi permanent color, but I forgot to buy the activating lotion. Can I use 10 v. developer instead, or maybe half and half 10 v. and shampoo?

Asked by: Smharding
You say you have the semi permanent color which does not use an activator. If it is a semi do not use any kind of developer. If you are using a demi pemanent color you should be able to use the 10 volume developer following the instructions for the appropriate ratio of developer to product.

I'm wondering if this activator will not lift my natural base color a 6n I believe. I'm used to using redken shades eq toner with redken activator that does not lift at all. I want the same effect. Also will it work with the wella toner on my highlights?

Asked by: Awkemily
I guess I'll answer my own question since I purchased this and t28 wella toner. Yes it works, it toned my highlights and did not lift my roots.

Is this developer good for wanting to go dark? My roots are dark and i only have the balayage style on the crown of my head and it’s a honey/caramel color.
