ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Brights Clear Shade Diluter can be added to any ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent brights to create a soft, subdued shade perfect for multidimensional effects. In 20 to 40 minutes, ion Color Brilliance Brights deposits color on pre-bleached natural or color treated hair. Brights can be applied to pre-lightened hair, color treated hair, or natural.
  • Add 2 oz of Clear Shade Diluter to 1/4 oz of any Ion Color Brilliance brights shade. Strand test every 5-10 minutes. After processing is completed, thoroughly rinse and apply ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock color deep inside the hair.

  • Tips for maintaining the longevity of contemporary hair colors:

Shampoo less frequently. Try a sulfate free or dry shampoo, which is much less aggressive on contemporary pigments.

Use a shampoo pH balanced for maintaining color treated hair. For example, a clarifying shampoo will tend to dull the intensity or vibrancy of these pigments.

Weekly moisturizing treatments and daily leave-in conditioners are a must for pre-lightened hair.

Hair that has been pre-lightened is more fragile and care should be taken when wet. Use a comb instead of a vent brush to remove tangles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, but not too bright! It probably sounds odd, but I want my color to be rich and vivid, but I want it to, are you ready for this, look real. So, I Dilute my color with 1/4 of this clear and 1/4 titanium. The result doesn’t look fake. It looks like I could have grown this blue hair. There isn’t a day that goes by when a person doesn’t stop me to comment on how my hair became so amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from much better than conditioner I was playing with several shades for a few weeks to see what was going to be my new go to color and whether I could be 'ballsy' enough to be a 34 year old mother of two with pink, bue, and/or purple hair. When I first started I used conditioner to dilute the color brilliance colors (which are super thick and difficult to work with). The results were patchy and didn't take evenly. The colors undiluted are also patchy since they are so difficult to work with. The shade diluter made the colors much easier to work with and provided a much more even coverage. I also had more of a pastel from day one instead of the next day. My color also seems to have lasted longer, but I used the diluter with a different shade (rose instead of flamingo) so that may have something to do with it. Highly recommend the diluter if you are going to play with these colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made my Lilac perfect! This product diluted the Lavender dye to the the exact colour I wanted to ombre my blonde extensions and it was so easy to replicate the exact same colour when needed without measuring. It is an absolutely fantastic product and I would recommend this to anyone using the Ion Brilliance colours to achieve the exact shade they desire.

Can I use this as a hair gloss?

Asked by: Scarielle_
If you have light colored hair, it will give you color. If your hair is very dark, it may only leave a shine.

I'm planning on bleaching my hair in the summer and this is probably a dumb question but would this work as a toner? If not, can you tell me what ion product I could use for as a toner? Thanks !

Asked by: Halo1234
Hair bleaching removes color whereas diluter is used to lessen the saturation of hair dye before applying. You'll need specifically a toner. Try wella TI8 ash blonde toned. http://www.sallybeauty.com/wella-color-charm-permanent-liquid-hair-toner/SBS-800275,default,pd.html

I am trying to take out the pink my hair has been for about a month now so I can do a lighter color. I saw that a permanent clear + a low volume developer works. Would this be the permanent clear I need for this to work?

Asked by: Mackenzie123
This is a semi-permanent clear diluter.  It does lighten your shade beautifully.  You dont add anything to this as it is already premixed and ready to go direcctly on your hair!

Can I just use the CLEAR semi-permanent shade diluter on my naturally colored hair for just shine?

Asked by: Jessie Mae
This product will only dilute the intensity of the Brights shades. You will need our Semi Permanent Creme Hair Color in Clear instead: http://www.sallybeauty.com/semi-permanent-hair-color/SBS-405089,default,pd.html#q=ion+semi&start=5

What if I apply it directly to my hair??

Like my hair is already dyed and it's too bright... So what if I just put this shade diluter in my hair? What then?
Asked by: BlindingNeonHair
I also dyed my hair shark blue. It didn't come out anywhere near the color of the swatch displayed at Sally's. It's VERY vibrant and VERY blue. I wanted more of a silvery color, but instead, I look like a Smurf. I was hoping to use the clear next to maybe tone it down some. I guess I'll just hope that a lot of it fades overnight. I have somea nice panic purple that I'll mix with the clear and throw that on top in a few days. Maybe I'll end up with something that I like the way you did!

So I'm a natural dirty blonde. I just bleached my hair to almost a level 1 but it still has a little yellow to it...kinda like a Barbie doll blonde. Will the ion diluted calm it down? Should I miss a bit of my reform purple shampoo with it?
