  • Add 2 oz of Clear Shade Diluter to 1/4 oz of any Ion Color Brilliance brights shade. Strand test every 5-10 minutes. After processing is completed, thoroughly rinse and apply ion Color Brilliance After Color Treatment to close the cuticle and lock color deep inside the hair.

  • Tips for maintaining the longevity of contemporary hair colors:

Shampoo less frequently. Try a sulfate free or dry shampoo, which is much less aggressive on contemporary pigments.

Use a shampoo pH balanced for maintaining color treated hair. For example, a clarifying shampoo will tend to dull the intensity or vibrancy of these pigments.

Weekly moisturizing treatments and daily leave-in conditioners are a must for pre-lightened hair.

Hair that has been pre-lightened is more fragile and care should be taken when wet. Use a comb instead of a vent brush to remove tangles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, but not too bright! It probably sounds odd, but I want my color to be rich and vivid, but I want it to, are you ready for this, look real. So, I Dilute my color with 1/4 of this clear and 1/4 titanium. The result doesn’t look fake. It looks like I could have grown this blue hair. There isn’t a day that goes by when a person doesn’t stop me to comment on how my hair became so amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from much better than conditioner I was playing with several shades for a few weeks to see what was going to be my new go to color and whether I could be 'ballsy' enough to be a 34 year old mother of two with pink, bue, and/or purple hair. When I first started I used conditioner to dilute the color brilliance colors (which are super thick and difficult to work with). The results were patchy and didn't take evenly. The colors undiluted are also patchy since they are so difficult to work with. The shade diluter made the colors much easier to work with and provided a much more even coverage. I also had more of a pastel from day one instead of the next day. My color also seems to have lasted longer, but I used the diluter with a different shade (rose instead of flamingo) so that may have something to do with it. Highly recommend the diluter if you are going to play with these colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made my Lilac perfect! This product diluted the Lavender dye to the the exact colour I wanted to ombre my blonde extensions and it was so easy to replicate the exact same colour when needed without measuring. It is an absolutely fantastic product and I would recommend this to anyone using the Ion Brilliance colours to achieve the exact shade they desire.

I heard this is a white hair dye? if i apply it over hair thats been bleached & toned with T18 toner. Will it give me white hair? ( IM TRYING TO FIND A GOOD WHITE HAIR DYE - ANY TO RECOMMEND? )

Asked by: Xoxoliss
No. It's clear. It is to make other colors less intense or dark. It won't do anything by itself.

I tried  to go back to my natural shade of level III but my hair grabbed the color and I am now on a level one can I use this product to lift some of the black and get it back up to a level III without turning my hair orange

Asked by: Genesimmons jr
Sorry, but no it will not. This is a semi permanent diluter/gloss. Colour cannot lift colour and so even permanent colour is not the answer to what you wish to achieve. To get to a level 3 (and you say you're at level 1 now) you will have to lift with lighteners/bleach, wait a few days with a likely brassy/orangey tone and then colour with a level 3 dye. In between that process it would be best to use a protein treatment followed by a deep moisture masque. I wish you the best!

Can I mix this stuff with other dyes like Arctic Fox? This stuff is way more affordable then the Arctic mist  diluter. Just wondering if this product would be a good substitute?

Asked by: Anonymous
Id like to say yes, although i dont know the texture of artic fox, this is a quite thick diluter as the ion colors are more on the thicker side. If you commonly colour your hair and would benefit from saving the extra money, id say buy a box to try and do a test strand to see how to it turns out. Im not sure of the price but manic panic does has a diluter and is not as thick as this one. I hope this helps!

I bleach my hair n put a toner T18 but my hair is not the blonde that I want if I use this will it take away the brozinnes that I still have ?

Asked by: Jojo1979
This is diluter. It's clear. To tone down yellow/brassiness try one that is silver. You may have to go to demi permanent or permanent like an ash blonde or platinum or silver.

Does this product contain a developer? Can I mix this with a developer to lift pigments out of my blonde hair?

Asked by: antonortega
You don't use a developer with this product. It's ready to go straight out of the tube.

Can I use this as a hair gloss?

Asked by: Scarielle_
If you have light colored hair, it will give you color. If your hair is very dark, it may only leave a shine.

I'm planning on bleaching my hair in the summer and this is probably a dumb question but would this work as a toner? If not, can you tell me what ion product I could use for as a toner? Thanks !

Asked by: Halo1234
Hair bleaching removes color whereas diluter is used to lessen the saturation of hair dye before applying. You'll need specifically a toner. Try wella TI8 ash blonde toned. http://www.sallybeauty.com/wella-color-charm-permanent-liquid-hair-toner/SBS-800275,default,pd.html

I am trying to take out the pink my hair has been for about a month now so I can do a lighter color. I saw that a permanent clear + a low volume developer works. Would this be the permanent clear I need for this to work?

Asked by: Mackenzie123
This is a semi-permanent clear diluter.  It does lighten your shade beautifully.  You dont add anything to this as it is already premixed and ready to go direcctly on your hair!
