Rated 2 out of 5 by from Undecided on efficacy I bought this packet for the first time to try today....The Sally employee said it would remove orange tones because "red and gold make orange". I am indifferent with the results - I still have orange tones after dying my level 5/6 brass brown hair to a level 4/5 ash brown, though they are not as prominent as before, i still see them. Perhaps a better product for bleaching or lighter dyes?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works If You Use It Right This is my first time using Red Gold Corrector, so I was hesitant about using it after reading the reviews. My natural color is a dark brown with a lot of red mixed in, so I thought this would do a good job at cancelling out the red. After I bleached my hair, I used this with the toner and developer, and it worked perfectly. I find that it works better in the toning process rather than bleaching.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nope It didn't work for me at all. I've tried it twice and it didn't help remove the gold even a little.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You're not using it right if it didn't work. The last time I bleached my hair, of course it came out really yellow, which I expected. I did not want to put my hair through so much shock in one day, so I just slept on it. The next day, I mixed this corrector with my toner and 30 volume creme developer. It honestly worked, and that's how it should. This was my first time bleaching my own hair at home. I have naturally reddish brown hair, and this corrector kept my hair from being yellow, and when I mixed it with the toner and developer, my hair came out platinum blonde and was perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you know what your doing.... 5 star product I am a natural level 2. I have died my hair every color known to man, 6 years ago I decided to go back to black. So after 2 months of processing 3 bleaching sessions with 10 vol and Prismlites I managed to lift my hair to a level 8 for a Dark blonde Balayage. If you know what your doing you will have to lift your hair to a yellow aka at least a level 8 to even tone your hair. This will not work if you have not lifted your hair to that level that's the minimum. For all my natural brunettes the red and orange tones in our hair is what gives dark hair color its vivid deep beautiful shiny pigmented tone. So if you bleach your hair the intent is to either go lighter or go blonde. If you are going blonde know that you will have to bleach all the pigment out of your hair to even tone unless you are going for a dark blonde color which requires a formula to fix and correct and undertone. If you want to color then you will have to use a formula to neutralize those pigments (red, orange, copper). Anything below a level 8 WILL NOT TONE, Toning is meant for blondes color is meant for pigmented hair which is why when a blonde decides to go darker a red must be deposited back into the hair in order for it to even grab. Soooooo if you still have pigment this product will not fix it your orange, red, brown red, yellow orange problem. You will have to check the color wheel for your undertone and get a permanent, Demi or semi with a base opposite from yours. With that said I did my balayage lifted my hair to a level 8 I used this with an ash violet base and it gave me the pop I needed, I also mixed this with the level 5 ash blue for my roots to melt with and it worked like a charm. Do your homework on what your doing before you do it, it will save you a lot of time and money. If you want to learn about hair do as I did find the best colorist in your town and become an assistant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for me but I tweeked I am a natural redhead...blonde/red as a child and deeper reds mixed in with brown/blonde as I got older. Now grays mixed in. When I dyed my hair I got a horrible orange/red color. I want my hair more ash with red undertones. I've done alot of research online about cancelling out unwanted colors. Green cancels red. Voilet cancels yellow. This product has a little more violet in it than green and I needed to cancel out more red than yellow. I mixed my dye (just doing roots) so 1 oz. dye, 1 oz developer, 5 drops of Ardell Red Gold Corrector Plus and 2 drops of green food dye. The results were perfect!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Results I tried this product because I was hoping to remove some orange coloring from my hair that I had bleached to a yellow/orange stage. After I used this color drabber, the "orange" turned to a dark yellow and blended very nicely with the rest of my hair. 100% happy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No! No! NO!!! I used this because I know my hair is prone to the orange gold colors when I color. This did nothing at all to correct that problem. It didn't work at all i still had to bleach to get out all the orange red gold tones. Its a good thing it was so inexpensive as it did not work for me at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not For Me I had high hopes, but for me, this did not work. I admit, I have LOTS of red any time I try to lighten my hair. This actually turned my hair pink. I think I just have too much red to overcome. I personally would not use it again, but it seems to work for those with only a small amount of red.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tames the Orange I have used this product three times this week trying to cover up my orange hair. I have had a life time struggle of coloring my hair, it always shows thru and turns orange red no matter what hair color I try, or who does it, salon, at home, etc. I have tired in vain to cover it. I used the Red Out earlier this week and got no results that I could see when I colored. Went back to Sally's and was told to try this one. I recolored my hair using the directions on the carton, the dosage. While my hair might have had a tad less orange I still had my orange halo and glowed orange in the light. I recolored my hair this morning with the double ash color I had used before. The only difference was I (gulp) tripled the amount of this product in the color. I was desperate. After coloring I still have a bit of a warm tone in the light at the crown but the medium ash brown seems to be more dominant. In the sunlight or lamp light I now have more dark auburn highlights in my hair than the orange clown colors I have had since a child.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from No difference really! I am 50ish with med-dk brown with orange tones hair and probably 60% grey. Have been dyeing my hair forever and usually stick close to my natural colour of med-dk brown . I have been wanting to go to a light neutral brown. Dyed it a light brown and lots of orange appeared but it was lighter. So I then got 2 packets of this and added it a dark neutral blonde dye and dyed my hair. Let it sit for 45 minutes and rinsed out. Hair came out med brown with lots of orange tone to it. I'm not knocking this product at all as I'm sure it would work wonders on someone with lighter hair. My hair is very hard to get lighter and it has a lot of orange tone to it naturally. I think I'm going to have to bleach it out and start anew if I want the desired shade of a neutral light brown.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets the red and gold out Great product. This product definitely gets the red out and tones down the golds. I mix it with my lightener (Ion and Ion Sen. Scalp developers) and it works magic. If you have dark hair and trying to go light I highly recommend using this in your bleaching product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as it should - recommend a few extra drops The directions say to add 15 drops to your toner/color and that's what I did and it did work really well for what I wanted - I wanted a golden (but not orange or brassy) blond... which is what I got (I also used a cyan-based Wella Color Charm toner) However, some people are looking for a cooler blond, and if that's what you want I'd recommend a few extra drops of this stuff in your mixture. Although it pretty well eliminated the reds/oranges, there is still a lot of gold in my color (which I wanted, but others may not)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this!!!!! I had almost very dark brown hair, and i bleached it to try and go blonder. I used 2 packs of this Red gold corrector mixed with bleach to help get rid of unwatned red and gold tones, n it works!! It did help alot. I also added packs in mixed with the toner that i used after to help retone my hair after bleaching, and it helped alot also to get rid of more unwanted red and gold tones. The one thing i can say about this is, it turns hairdye a very odd fuschia/purple color, which scared me at first, but my hair did not turn pink, it worked wonderfully at correcting the gold and red i normally get when i bleach my hair to a lighter color!!. Now my hair is a sandy, champagne, ashy blonde color after toning with this mixed in with my toner as well. I love these and will buy more!!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Helpful This stuff is definitely helpful in getting brassy colors out of the hair, but it's not a miracle worker. It was worth the 99 cents but more than one packet would probably be more effective. I mixed this with one application of Argan Oil color, and it made the mixture BRIGHT pink. Like neon strawberry shortcake pink. It works decently, although not 100%. I would recommend changing the color of this stuff because it goes on hair in the brightest pink shade and it's terrifying! You can use up to three packets with one application of whatever you're using so it is worth buying even if it doesn't do much.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's OK I have dark brown dyed hair with gray and white roots. I bleached my hair with Quick Blue and 30 Volume, it got white at the roots and dark blond on the shaft. Gave it a Bleach Bath with Quick Blue + 40 Volume + Shampoo just on the shaft.. I ended up with bright orange! Added this product to my conditioner Pantene Silver Expressions (10 drops/per oz of conditioner) left it on for a 1/2 hour. It took a lot of the orange out about 25%. Colored my hair with Loreal 91/2NB added package of the unred. Roots first then pulled it through. I ended up with this ombre look. Still darker towards the middle of the shaft to the ends. But it's no way near a orange as it was. It looks like a mixture of low and highlights. I will continue to use this product the next time I bleach my hair. BTW it was bright pink when I put it on my roots!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Red-Gold Corrector Additive I mixed one packet of this red-gold corrector into my level 9V blonde dye to help reduce the gold I always get after a dye. I wanted to start out with one packet to see how much it effect my hair before using more the next time I re-color my roots. This stuff really does turn the dye hot megenta pink! My hair totally looked pink while this was developing but it rinsed right out, leaving me with a very light sandy, champagne blonde. Now that I know this won't turn my hair blue or anything, I'll mix in more packets next time. This really helped reduce the gold tones in my hair and made my color results more uniform so it blended in nicely with the rest of my hair, instead of getting that weird cut-off line where you can tell where the roots are versus the rest of the hair. Easy to use, just get a pair of sharp scissors and snip off one corner. I didn't have any leaks or anything with mine. This isn't a miracle fix, but it really does help. Great product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pink Drops? From what I understand the formula has changed for this product. I recently purchased two pouches to use in shampoo and hair colors. When adding to hair color it turns the dye bright PINK! Pink is not a cool color, pink is warm. This does very little if nothing to cancel out brassy tones. I still haven't tried it with my shampoo. I recommend the UNRED drops, they work much, much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product! I used this recently when I went from dark brown dyed hair, to platinum white. After bleaching my hair out slowly 3 times with 40vol developer, I reached a light yellowy-orange color. I added this color corrector in with my dye, Wella color charm 10A Palest ash blonde, then applied it to my hair and waited as directed. I was thrilled when I washed the dye out and my hair was a brilliant platinum blonde, nearly silver! I've also used this on my friends hair. She used a pink semi-permanant, that refused to fully fade from her hair. So we mixed two packets in with the bleach we mixed up, and it helped fully remove all the remaining pink tones from her hair. Also used it when I dyed brown over my red hair.. helped keep the red from shining through the brown. I definitely recommend this! Keep in mind though it will not FULLY remove orange and red tones from hair, if your hair is not light enough. Dark orange/red it will not do much to.. but if you've bleached your hair light color, and you just need help clearing up the color, this is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works For Me I decided to give this a try after hearing good things about this product. I was in the mood to go back to blonde after almost a year's vacation of being brunette. I bleached my previously colored hair from a dark, red brown shade (level 3) to the gold/yellow stage using one packet of the Ardell Red/Gold Corrector Plus in my BLEACH! I used Ion's powder bleach and their 30 volume developer and left it on for 45 minutes. I only required one bleaching and was satisfied enough with the result. So, I continued on to toning my hair with an light ash-based haircolor. The end result was a beautiful, light neutral-ash blonde. I couldn't be happier. I bought more than one packet and will add the Ardell Red/Gold Corrector Plus in my favorite shampoos and conditioners. Because, I do like violet shampoos/conditioners to help eliminate the brass that blondes can get after awhile. I will purchase this again and again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from meh works ok, but nothing spectacular. i was going from light brown/dark blonde to very light blonde. i added the whole packet to my hair color formula. i was nervous when it turned my formula hot pink, but don't worry, it didn't turn my hair that color. it def helped tone down some of the brassiness (my hair always gets orange/yellow when i lighten it), but there's still slight brassiness to my hair. just needs a little extra toning. i'd recommend using this in your color formula and an extra packet to mix in with your shampoo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally! This really worked for me. My natural color is dark blonde with about 25% gray. I've tried a few different shades of ION and always had reddish tones in my bang area. I used 9A with 20vol developer and 1 packet of the red gold corrector and walla--no red! I'm going to go buy every packet they have! I didn't have any issues with the packet making a mess. Just snip off a little bit of the corner with scissors and pour into your bowl/bottle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from De-Oranged My Hair I've been slowly but surely lifting my dyed black hair to blonde, and, before using this product, my hair was a light golden orange. Super trashy looking. I added two of these bad boys to a high lift blonde, and I definitely think it made a difference. The color is SO much ashier and more natural.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from SIGH! Didn't work. I really wanted it to, guys, but it just didn't. Had brass brass BRASS after trying to lighten my hair a couple levels from a medium brown to a dark blonde. I used an ION medium ash blonde, it alone did not cancel out the brass. Read up on the reviews for this stuff. Bought 4 packets. Put one in my deep conditioner and THREE into two oz of the same medium ash blonde with 2 oz of 20 vol developer. My roots were still. Clown. Orange. I don't know guys. I bought the Colorful Neutral Protein Color filler and am going to go over THAT with Clairol Second Nature toner in #153D, D for "Drab" to cancel out the brass tones, hopefully. Seriously, three packets? And it was still orange? I was a sad puppy, y'all. Good thing they're cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase For Toning Hair This is seriously the best product I've ever bought for getting the yellow, brassy tones out of my hair. I use it as directed and also sometimes directly on my hair when using dye instead of mixing it in with the color. The reason this packaging is more expensive is because instead of using the entire packet (like the other packaging), you only use 15 drops per ounce of color/bleach.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I am naturally a blonde and was at a level 7M which is a light brown with a violet base. I am trying to go back to a level 8G (which is my natural color). When I used this product I was under the impression that it would help pull out the reds from the violet based brown. However it did not do that at all. I still have a lot of red/ orange color in my hair.

Yes directions say can be mixed with most anything. I do color my hair and fight red and it does work for me. You could also try the purple shampoos to cut red colors in any hair.
