Rated 4 out of 5 by from Color Smart hair color for men It's the only hair color I use because it leaves some of the gray so it looks more natural. However, I guess because I'm completely gray I have to use it every 7-10 days. Also I am disappointed that I can no longer buy it at local stores in Miami. It is the same price online, but the extra cost of shipping makes it cost more than buying it at the store.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Natural It looks very natural. My husband used to use permanent hair dye and gray roots would appear after a week. This works more like a wash and gives you that salt and pepper look. The only thing is not to leave it on longer than about 5 minutes or it gets too dark.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Natural looking Great color for those men that want just a little grey but don't want a full head of grey or white hair! Looks natural, washes out naturally and takes a few years off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product for gray coverage. Superior color without redish orange tinge of other products. Matches natural hair color perfectly. Washes out in about two weeks which is why it only gets 4 stars. Suggest leaving it in longer than instructions say, as some of the resistant grays need more time to absorb the color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ColorSmart for Men - Browns Having used this product for quite some time, I can say it works well and appears about as natural as could be expected. I'd like to offer my experience for the benefit of others: 1. Mix ingredients well in the applicator bottle. Cut tip of applicator. Do this over the sink because a drop or two might pop after cutting off the tip. Leave the applicator bottle upright in sink. 2. Wash hair well, perhaps 2x, to remove particulates. Do not use a shampoo-conditioner combo, or follow shampoo with conditioner. 3. Dry hair fully. 4. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the full perimeter of hairline, wherever hair growth has substantially stopped, halfway down your forehead and partially down your neck, on and behind earlobes. Once in your hair, the product might run. Preparing this way surely will save significant clean up and headache. 5. Wash and dry hands. Put on latex or vinyl gloves. A bit of baby powder in untreated gloves will make for easier slip on and off. 6. Place gloved thumb over applicator tip, shake a few times, begin to apply coloring at hairline. Try using your comb to run coloring through hair. Continue until hair is saturated with coloring. NOTE: Comb slowly because coloring can accumulate in the comb teeth and drop off unexpectedly. 7. Every few minutes, add a bit more coloring and comb through. Coloring will thicken and darken fairly quickly. NOTE: Better results might be achieved by exceeding manufacturer development time. I allow 30+ minutes from start to removal because it takes up to 10 minutes for initial saturation to be reached. 8. After full saturation is achieved, while wearing gloves, run them under water to remove coloring. Remove gloves and dispose or set on plastic bag to dry for reuse. 9. Upon desired development, wash out hair 1x or 2x with shampoo designed for color treated hair. Follow with conditioner designed for color treated hair. Then, style as you would typically. A few more notes: - Coloring will stain many materials - grout, some tiles, stone, towel, wall covering, paint - almost upon contact. So, move slowly and carefully, and keep paper towels or rags handy. There are removal methods, but every situation is different and couldn't be described here. - Coloring can stain your skin. What I've found works at home is mixing baking soda with a citrus scented liquid dish soap to create a slurry. A bit on a rag, rubbed on the skin stain is effective. That's about it. I hope your experience with this product is at least as good as mine has been.

What are the ingredients? I haven't been able to make it to the store yet. I'm worried about PPDs in these ingredients. Thanks!

According to the list of ingredients, this chemical is present in L'Oreal's Color Smart Haircolor for men. Unsure as to the dangers, but according to the Google search, some people do have an allergic reaction to this substance. I have used this product for about 4 years and have had no reaction to the hair color.

How difficult is it to apply this product and how long does it last?

Asked by: ketchummark
It's very easy to apply. It takes less than 5 minutes for me to apply it to my husband's roots.then he sits for 15 minutes before washing it out. We reapply every two weeks. He has very short hair, in case that matters.

So, if my natural hair color is black (almost all gray now), wouldn't using the black coloring cover all the gray? Or does the color naturally leave a little gray?

Asked by: GraniteArmyGuy
It definitely leaves some gray making it more natural looking.

can you use this dye for women

Asked by: lilly123
Yes! This does not cover grey completely. This is wonderful for people that only want to take 10 minutes to color. Color is natural looking. I feel it's a great hair color if you would like to look as if you still want to have some grey showing through. It's a perfect hair color for those that just want to add a little color, don't want to take much time to color their hair, and do not want all grey or white hair.

If I feel the light brown is too dark, can I mix it different to lighten? I tried leaving it less time and didn't get down to the roots well!

Asked by: Steveat373
Hi, you can mix to suit your needs. I have mixed 2 of the colors many times to achieve the desired color. My husband always leaves on for 7-8 minutes for good color penetration. Hope this helps
