Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work to remove arctic fox purple dye Watched some youtube videos, everyone said that using it on dry hair worked best. I saturated my hair, put on a plastic cap and applied heat. I washed it out right around the 45 min mark and nothing really happened. Le sigh, back to youtube... also I'd like to add most of the purple was already out of my hair so I just have a slight tinge left, I expected this to do the trick but sadly nope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this honestly really surprised me Because of all the negative reviews i was really skeptical but decided to give this a shot. My hair history at the moment is pretty crazy, i went from blonde to red hair, back to blonde with a different color remover, then to auburn, then back to bright red. (arctic fox poison) I was getting tired of the red and decided to give this a shot to see if it would at least tone the color down a bit. i left it on for thirty minutes while moving my hair dryer all over my head to keep it heated. it took out a lot more red than i thought it would. definitely not all of it but it’s about a rose gold/pinky color now. and on the ends it even looks like it lifted up the past auburn hair color because it’s showing a little bit of blonde! i only used one packet and i’m going to buy another one tomorrow to even out the color and take more out if possible. it’s not the absolute best color remover that i’ve used, but it definitely surprised me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Barely lifted my hair and left it dry and hard I bought this yesterday because i wanted to lift my hair from a level 1 to at least a level 4 in order to do a balayage on myself before resorting to bleach since i had used a color remover before i thought this one would work but it didnt even bring me to a level two, and it left my hair dry and brittle i definitely would not recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good This worked at removing Ion *permanent* hair color really well. I was happy with the results afterwards. It did leave a not so pleasant smell in my hair for about 2 weeks but washing every 2-3 days. It was still worth it though and I’m happy with my hair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from USE HEAT; Does work My hair was fading from blue to green and the green would not get out of my blonde hair. I applied the remover, placed a bag over my hair and placed a heating pad on my head for 45 minutes and it removed a lot of the green pigment. Did this twice and the results were very good.

Would this get permant red or purple hair out and then I’d dye it dark brown

Asked by: Maria177
so yes this hair remover does help to get out the color but it doesn't remove it entirely if the previous color was permanent. I had dyed my hair a maroon red color and after about five months I got tired of it and wanted to touch up did this hair remover and it removed most of it but it was still a little bit orange so I had to go back in with a toner to get my natural color. If you're just using it to get most of the color out just to redye then you should be good.

Hair color remover is mild and may not help remove already faded colors (resistant residual color). You may need primary bleach. Please consult your hair stylist for suitable advise

Letting my gray grow out and I want to strip the brown. Will this work? Is it a good idea?

Asked by: Anonymous
If you use this to try and strip the color, it will not come out to your grey. It will most likely come out to a muddy yellowish color, which would give you the basis to then dye it close to your grey. If you use this, I would suggest, you dye it as close to your grey as possible, and use a shampoo for silver tones to try and tone it to be as even with your natural as it can get in an effort to then let it grow out. but will just take out the color, and leave your natural color? no.

I box dyed my ends black like an ombré type style, turned out I don’t like it at all! Would this help get the black out? About how much would I need?

Asked by: Sammie7291
I've never used this with permanent dyes and black is pretty stubborn to get out in general, but I used it with super stubborn green semi permanent that no other color remover was touching and it took it right out. So perhaps mix it with a developer instead of just water, maybe a 10 or 20 volume, depending how much lift you're wanting.

I have dark brown hair and copper colored permanent dyed ends (from it growing out), will this help fade the copper ends, although, my natural hair is darker than the dye on it? FYI my hair has never been bleached, it was box dye that dyed my hair copper.

Asked by: Anon2020
I’m not a professional but I would say it will strip the copper off the ends.

I’ve been dying my hair with permanent red for the last few months, haven’t dyed it since January- and hoping to go blonde Will this help get the color back to natural brown before trying to go blonde?

Asked by: AprilLud
You could try. I’d use Hask charcoal clarifying shampoo for a couple weeks and see where that gets you. Don’t bleach unless all of the dye is out. After your color is removed, condition well and repair it before bleaching. Even if you have darker hair, use 20 volume developer for your bleach.

How many of these would I need to remove color from my hair

Asked by: Jaxkie_16
My hair is about 3 inches above my waist and thick. I used two packets with 8oz Ion Sensitive Scalp 20vol developer and had more than enough. It seemed to expand with the developer as it sat (I applied with a coloring brush, section by section), not sure if you're using water.

Is this what I need to remove iron from my daughters hair? (Iron well water) She has lightened blonde hair

Asked by: MommyAngel
Not sure. I used it to take the blue out of my daughters hair. It worked but on my other daughter taking brown off it didn’t. It is water based and wrap hair in a plastic bag or something like that and use heat is what worked for us. Hope this helps

will this help permanent blue hair color fade???

Asked by: jess1010
Yes, it will. Depending on the brand of blue color previously used, Ion color remover will dramatically lighten your blue hair but won't completely lift all the color away. Note: Do not double lighten or bleach hair for at least 3 days to prevent breakage and irreversible drying out of your hair. Note: I'm not a professional stylist, just a pro at vibrant hair coloring. Peace and Goodluck to you!

I boxed dyed my hair a medium ash brown (permanent) a couple months ago and it turned out very brassy. Now that my hair has grown, the brassiness looks even worse next to my ashy brown roots. Will this product remove the dye? I don’t want to be orange.

Asked by: SRHZ1234
It does remove some of the dye, less than half. I think you can remove brassiness with a Violet Rinse.

I used neon yellow Overtone on my balayaged, white-blonde hair about two weeks ago. I’ve washed most of it out using a combination of vinegar, dish soap, baking soda, and clarifying shampoo but wondering if this will help get the rest out?

Asked by: Noyellow
So this remover is for both semi perm and perm colors. Overtone is semi perm i believe, so in theory it should work. But if its just stain on the outside of the hair shaft - but its a neon color - id do a beach bath for 5 minutes if your hair can take it. Otherwise if the hair is not healthy this product would in theory work, i have have poor results with this on permanent colors but good results with sem perms. The Radical Color Remover would probably work a lot better. Either way you need a non oxidative color remover. GL

is this safe for someone who has artic fox color? aquamarine, and my hair is over processed already so trying to stay away from bleach.

Asked by: jaclynh1
It claims it can’t overprocess but your hair will dry out more. I’ve found that Hask charcoal clarifying shampoo works great. After a week, my semi permanent manic panic came out. I was also able to wash out some permanent toner that went wrong. This remover isn’t great - it always took me multiple uses and still left color behind. Never use bleach to remove color! Use it to lighten your actual hair. Color should be removed with clarifiers, as most other removers are pretty much bleach.

I just recently used semi permanent red on my hair. Will this help get it out?

Asked by: Glade190
It should, it may even change the color to what undertones the color has. I have had that happen and been happy with the results. The lighter(bleached) your hair was before you used fashion color the more color it should remove. If you have lots of hair I like to mix in small batches then apply to hair. The first two components activate quickly so its best to use them in small amounts I think. I HAVE NOT USED THE #3 BOTTLE - based on previous reviews that this brings all the color back after removing color!

I recently dyed by medium dark brown hair a red cherry color with box dye. I decided I would rather have a lighter, more vibrant red color. Can I use this to remove the permanent dye and then safely process again with developer/permanent dye afterwards?

Asked by: KiKi Schmi
If you use this product to remove permanent dye, you will probably need to use high heat. For me it only removed temporary dye I had in highlights throughout my hair, my regular hair color is dark brown and it didn’t change.  I did not use heat though and it recommends it for maximum color removal. If you just dyed your hair recently you should be able to remove the color. Depending on how much hair you have you may need to do a couple of applications. Also it should be safe for you to re-dye your hair after a few days.  I hope this helps!
