Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome This was the first time I highlighted at home and I’m so glad I did I also bought the yellow toner separate and used it but her hair turned out great she loves it! I left the bleach on for 35-40 minutes and the toner for 15 minutes and I only used half the bottle of toner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets the job done I have used this kit multiple times, and have always had a good experience with it. Something important to remember, for those of you who haven't had a good experience with it, products like this almost always depend on the base colour of the hair. It depends where you start out, if you already have hair that's blonde and are aiming for lighter highlights this is perfect. This is why going from brown/black to blonde is difficult because of the amounts of red/orange/yellow used in them to get achieve that look. The brass colour is a by product of too much orange/red/yellow in the hair. To neutralize that, look to the opposite colour on the colour wheel, purple/blue will typically even it out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I look like a Calico cat! Orange hair, AWFUL kit! If I could rate this a zero, I'd do so. First strike against this kit is the cap design.. It's extremely small & doesn't fit your head properly to get close enough to the roots & forget about the back, bottom portion of your hair since this cap only covers about 1/4 of the back of your head and when you try to tug it down, it pulls the front back. When you try to pull that back, it tears. After struggling through all that aggravation, the worst part was that I ended up with ORANGE hair! Not slightly orange, oh no.. A cringe worthy brassy orange. I now look like a freaking calico cat! Awful product that I'd never recommend to anyone. I'll stick with my Frost & Design kit in Champagne that I've never once had an issue with. My natural color is a dark blonde/light brown and I'm no novice to DIY highlighting since I've done it myself for years.. Just never with this result. Short of coloring my hair back to a light brown, I have no clue how to get rid of this mess. I've tried 3 toners, to no avail. I am so disgusted with it all.

I have dark brown hair and want to put thin blonde highlights but every time I dye my hair it turns orange . What product do you suggest?

Asked by: Mariareyes
Going from any type of brown to blonde is a process. Brown hair naturally has a lot of red/orange/yellows in it, so when bleaching the hair it strips out as much of it as possible and you are often left with just the unpleasant colours mentioned. More bleaching over top of newly bleached hair is never a good idea, it makes the hair very brittle and you have already stripped the dark colours out of it. When addressing colour correction for brassiness, remember to look at the colour wheel, the best way to correct is using the opposite colour on the wheel from what you are seeing in your hair. If you are seeing more reds, blue is the best option to neutralize it. Orange/Yellow use purples.

Can I use tin foil with this product?

I do not know why you could not use foil although I used the cap which was provided with the kit.

I used this kit and am generally happy with the results. However, I would like it to be a little more white than yellow. How long do I need to wait before using this product again. I do not want to fry my hair.

Asked by: LeahG333
DO NOT BLEACH TO WHITE. a violet toner will help make the color appear lighter. leaving on until white is over processed and could result in major damage.

Will this kit help take out my orange

Asked by: Dawn0711
If your hair is already lightened (bleached) to orange you will need a blue/violet toner depending on what shade of orange (think of opposite of a color wheel) and use that to decide. if your hair is colored to orange it should take the orange out.

Can you use this on dark hair

Asked by: Helen m f
I did and I have dark brown hair. It didn't give it the bright blonde I wanted. It was more of a brassy color. I gave it a few days and redid it and it came out lighter. Don't leave it on too long thinking it will lighten it more because it will damage your hair. I did it then did a deep conditioner then tried it again. Good luck. It's a great product.

Do you have to use the cap or can you use the brush tool to highlight individual strands according to your hair style?

Asked by: dragboatgirl
I don’t  use the cap. I take thin strands of hair that frame my face and paint it on. Very easy, the longer it’s left on, the lighter it is. I’m not a professional, however, I’ve been successful with this product every time. I use a small amount and save the rest for the next time

Asked by: Deegirl24
I always do a base color and then do my highlights. It works for me.
