Rated 4 out of 5 by from Influenster Review Influenster sent this to me for free to try and then review. As I put this on, I definitely noted that the smell was strong and not a good smell at all. I did a root touch up then combed thru to the ends to blend. I got really nervous because I saw congealed pieces of dye as I combed thru my hair. I washed out after 20 minutes just nervous and anxious. Turned out ok stained my skin/scalp but most do. Gray covered but a couple of strands seen. I will try this product again other than the smell the color was ok. Not shiny or Matt but coated the strands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Permanent hair color I was really impressed with this stuff. I used a 10 developer and my hair came out great. With box colors from the grocery store I have to color every 2 weeks... made it three weeks between colorings. It also made my hair really shiny!! I plan to stay with this brand.

Age Beautiful Permanent Hair Color - Can you explain what the letters mean after the numbers, for example, 9N, 10A, HLA.

Asked by: Jcoll6021
N- natural- has the 3 primary colors in them, depending on the level 1-9 Levels 4-6 have more of blue & red unlike Levels 7-9 they have more red & yellow Remember the color wheel. A- ash- is usually made of blue and red or some companies actually use green. Yellow-red combinations. Using green in Florida in any color has NOT been very friendly in any form. Floridians are always in water, from pools, rivers, lakes, even muddy waters. I have found that with people who are water lovers, especially blondes, should use blue and yellow base ashes. Again use the color wheel. HLA- perfect for all Florida blondes Perfect ash, HLN- perfect for all natural blondes

I have about 5-10% grey hair (very noticeable when I pull my hair up in a ponytail). Since I have long, low porosity, brown/black, coarse asian hair, should I just get the 5N or get something a bit darker?

Asked by: lnguyen41
I regularly use 5N and it is very dark brown but it covers the gray. I would recommend only covering the gray and not color the rest of your hair.

Does it matter what creme developer you use?I have Argan Oil 20 Volume Cream Developer on hand or do I need the Age Beautiful developer specifically?

Asked by: footfree
I used a 20 vol developer. I don't think it was the same brand, but it really shouldn't matter. 20 should work fine and the argan oil will help keep your hair from feeling icky when you're done, so nice choice!

I used the darker shade of red previously about 8 weeks ago and would like to go to the strawberry blonde in same line. Will my hair take the new color completely or will it just be new growth?

Asked by: Eilaberle
I think you should use a highlift blonde you’re going to have to remove most of the dark red and then the next time you color then start with your strawberry blonde color

What color works best on gray

Asked by: PunkieBear
All of them work well. It just depends what color you want. If you want it to blend with what is left with your original color, use a lighter shade than your original natural color and the 10 developer. That way just the gray will get covered and it'll be a pretty blend of your original color and the color you choose. You don't have to use the same color just one that blends, like strawberry blond color to cover the gray in brown hair.

Asked by: Yasmin786
No, it will not give you highlights. Its a permanent hair color and the shades run dark. It is nice color, but I used the "light red" and it was definitely more of a medium shade.

My hair is a strawberry blonde and wonder if i can put dark blonde over it. What color would it be?

Asked by: KarenIrene
When I first switched to Age Beautiful I did a test spot from underneath that couldn't be easily seen if the color turned out too wild! That's something you might want to consider.

Will I be able to dye my hair with this or do I need to buy something else to mix with it?

Asked by: Jamieharju
You need a developer.  Age Beautiful has their own brand.  If you aren’t lightening, get the 20-20 volume.

I have been using the black blue on my hair for 6 months. Do not really see any blue tones it looks black. My original hair color dark brown. I switched to 3B Darkest blue the last 2 times still looks black. Any suggestions?

Asked by: Tazianne
I use 3V which is violet. It looks almost black under indoor lighting but when I go outside under sunlight you definitely see the violet. Have you noticed that with yours? You also may want to go a shade or two lighter - 4B or 5B to lessen the darkness, and then maybe the blue will stand out better.

Does this have to be mixed with something??

Asked by: Pattypat
Yes, it needs the Age Beautiful gentle creme developer. When I first starting using this product I choose the "20 volume" and have been happy with the results for over five years. Read the directions enclosed with the color product to see the mixing proportion and timing.

I just purchased the 3v plum brown, what color would be good to mix with it. I have medium to a darker brown shoulder length hair. I just don't want to end with a flat blah color. First time using, so please help!!

Asked by: CrazySadie
Actually I mix the Light Raspberry Brown with Strawberry Blond, so not sure what you should mix with, but I can tell you that this hair color gives me shiny hair, more than Clairol, Preference, Excellence... you won't end up with flat, blah color with Age Beautiful Anti-aging hair color.

I dyed my hair with 3NN but now I have decided that I want 4RM.  Is this possible?  If so how do I do it?

Asked by: New to coloring
I’ve gone backwards from a 10N to an 8N in blonde. I use a lower powered developer (like the 20) and leave the color in the amount of time per the instructions. The first time I did it (the same day), it made a huge difference, but the following month my hair came out even better. Good luck!

I used the 5V Medium Plum Brown with 20 developer and my hair turned out red. What did I do wrong?

Asked by: KaitL509
Was you hair colored before? That can have a lot to do with the difference in the outcome. Ck with a color specialist. You may have to go to 30 so it is more absorbed into hair to cover previous hair color.

I just colored with Light golden brown with #20 developer. 45 minutes processing time. Color came out way too dark ! Dark brown with red highlights. Will color lighten up after several shampoos?

Asked by: Debbie921
It does lighten but takes quite a while. With it turning out that much darker, you may want to redo it. It seems this brand runs darker than expected. I use one shade lighter than wanted and get great results.

My hair is med ash blonde and I am trying to go back to it. Blonde would I need to use a lift and then color? What is the differences between the two? Thank you.

Asked by: hope0205
I don' t know the tone you are right now. This is a box that you need to buy the peroxide that is made for it separate. Look at the directions. It's strong. I use a 40% peroxide with high lift natural blond. I have dark grey at the roots and iit consistantly comes out beautiful. The question is for me, have you died your hair in the past? Are you really dark right now? If you answer yes to the second question, go to a hairdresser to get a high lift. After that use this to maintain.

I colored my hair with the 9G and 20 volume developer, but it came out darker than Id like. Should I have left it in longer to get it a shade or 2 lighter??

Asked by: charmainegd
This customer does not tell how long she left on the color. The instructions call for 45 minutes for 50% or more grey hair. My experience is only with 8G with this hair color and it results in a shade darker than the picture on the box. It will get lighter after a few shampoos.

What is the shelf life of the Age Beautiful developer? And when do you use the 10 volume and when do you use the 20 volume?

Asked by: joyjano5
I have seen many comments about the Age Beautiful products grabbing the color. Too dark sadly for many. I had this problem years ago and finally said something to my local store manager. I had no great knowledge of hair color or developing solutions. But when my stylist upped her fees to over a 150.00 to sit in her chair for hours while she cut other peoples hair I decided it was time to give it a shot. I found my way to Age Beautiful. It covers grey. it is gentle and they use to offer free color swatches. So on to the problem of the color seeming to be one to two shades darker than the swatch. I mentioned it the manager and she matter of factually stated "yes it will do that if you use the 10% developer". She was right I purchased the 20% and the color came out true to swatch. I was concerned going up to the 20% developer. I compensated for this by leaving it on for less time and only pulling it through for 5 minutes at the end. Hope this helps.

I have medium brown hair. I only want the the darkest blue to tint my hair blue (noticeably though) will this work? If so what volume developer do I get?

Asked by: Sdudelston
It all depends on how much you have colored your hair in the past, and it it's with permanent color. I would definitely ask the Sally's personnel those questions while in the store.

I always mix two colors together with never a problem. Your hair looks much more natural this way than if it were one solid color.

I currently use age beautiful medium golden brown and would like to go a shade lighter what would u recommend

Asked by: heidi avella
I would try it. I use a Strawberry Blonde and the first time I bought it I bought the dark strawberry blonde and I did not like it. I like the color but it was way too dark. So the next time I dyed my hair I went with it the medium strawberry blonde. Much much better. But I still wanted my hair just a little later so the third time I did it with the light strawberry blonde. So basically two shades lighter than the original and I loved it and that's the color I'm still using now. So I would definitely recommend one shade lighter. Can't hurt, right? In the end if you think it's too late then you just go back to the darker shade.

Since the colors run dark, can I mix the light golden blonde with the light strawberry blonde to achieve a much lighter red? The light strawberry blonde turns a fairly deep red. I love the brand. The red does not fade like other brands.

Asked by: hairhopper
Yes. I mix strawberry blond and light golden brown. I use the 10 developer so it does not cover the natural darker brown I have left. I get complements all the time.
