Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work on dark hair I used the red color to attempt to dye my hair brown a little red; had zero impact. Huge waste of money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love love love Wella Color Charm!!! I’ve been coloring my own hair with Wella Color Charm Gel for about a year now. I’ve used 3 different colors, but my new favorite is 7WV Nutmeg. All the Wella colors are so predictable on my hair. Turns out just like the color swatch!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shade 9A on natural level 6 hair - worked! My hair is currently dyed medium blonde, and I needed to do my roots. I have natural level 6 medium brown hair (well, level 6 is named light brown, but my natural hair looks medium brown to me). When I lighten it a couple of shades, it pulls a truly horrific amount of orange. Even using A (ash) colours from box dye, I'd get hot roots. It was always brassy. I found out that blue counteracts orange, and I saw on the Wella color chart for Color Charm that this product has a blue base. I decided to use it for my roots...BUT, I also used a sachet of Ardell UnRed. For the first time, my roots had no hotness at all. However, I'm not sure if this is due to the blue base of the 9A or the UnRed. I did think my roots were darker than expected - they came out a dark beige/ash blonde that I'd call Level 7 or 7.5. I used 25 vol developer and my hair is level 6, so I'd have expected more lift. I think it's probably due to the UnRed, which is a drabber. Anyway, I was happy with the colour. If your roots pull orange, and this product has a blue base, and blue counteracts orange, it seems to make sense to use this. I'd try it again without the UnRed, out of curiosity. Maybe I didn't need it, and maybe my hair is a little darker/ashier than it would have been otherwise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mixing colors I know it is suggested we NOT mix different products...but I do it anyway. I usually mix Loreal and Clairol and have excellent results. This time I used Loreal, Clairol and Color Charm...it came out beautifully! 20V Developer

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great color, not what I expected. My natural hair is a medium dark brown and I got the “intense medium blonde” shade 7NN because it is a neutral tone and I was hoping for a bit of a less warm tone from my actual hair color. Half of my hair was a different color from my natural roots from a much older dye that had faded. I did not get the neutral color I was looking for, it turned my hair a very auburn shade and actually lightened my roots significantly. Luckily the color looks really good on me, but it is no where near what I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good color I got this because it was on sale but i was leary because of the reviews. I usually have darker hair in the winter and lighter brown in the summer so i don't have to dye it as often because my greys don't show as bad. I always use level 4 in the winter so i went with the 5N for a lighter brown. DO NOT go by the color description, always use the level of color. I loved my color results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Holy Grail My natural hair color is dark ash blonde, but I was starting to get a lot of grey. For years I used Age Beautiful in Medium Ash Blonde and the color was nice; however, despite adding Red Gold Corrector Plus every time, my hair would still go a bit brassy. Then I discovered Wella's Color Charm Gel in Medium Smoky Blonde and got the perfect shade! That being said, I have fair, pink skin and look terrible with ANY red or gold in my hair, so I also add Wella's Cooling Violet to the mix. I love these products! Once a week I use a purple shampoo to make sure no pesky reds or golds peek through. :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Destroy's My Hair I have thin fine hair, that may be a factor with this product. I had been using ION color, and prior to that other brands carried by Sally's... I've even done boxed color in a pinch... I've never had a problem with damage and coloring my hair, nothing that a deep conditioner wouldn't fix, not any other brand with over 30+ years of coloring my hair. And yes I do know what I am doing, I went to cosmetology school, but I am no longer in the field, but I have always colored my own hair. I had been trying to go a bit lighter so I thought some of that damage had been from that... meaning I gave Wella few chances. The last try I did nothing other than a root touch up. Every time I colored it took well over a month for my hair to recover and the last time was the same. I switched back to ION and had ZERO damage issues. My hair was just fine after coloring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful This is a great hair color product. It is easy to use, it doesn't run down your face, it colors well, and it lasts. I use this product also for touchups, just mix up 1/4 or 1/2 depending on how much I need. I have gotten many compliments on the nutmeg color, I guess that's why my store never has it in stock. So glad I found this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst hair dye ever! Started out with platinum blonde hair with my light blonde roots coming in. Applied 12NG to the roots and 9NG to the rest of my hair. I let it set 35 minutes and rinsed and shampooed to find my roots turned orange and the rest of my hair is a dark gray. My hair is extremely dry and ugly looking I can’t stand to look st it. Beyond pissrd and upset for spending $65+ on this! Do not recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I trust this brand for consistent results. I like this line, illumina, perfect Special blondes because the colors are so true and consistent. I recommend the Wells cream oil lightener over the bleach for any hair which lifts with bleach and 20 vol or off the scalp with 30 or more. You seriously can lift with just 3% if your a 7 light brown and get great contrast when you tone. My favorites are 1120; 1030; #50; T14; T18 when you’re first blond from a dark brown, 12/11 special blond; 10/69 pearl ash illumina, 10/3 ash. 1210 works well for silvery frosty ends. Right now neutrals are coming in for contrasts to silver. So we have neutral and ice nail color to compliment. I’m using a color called Indian Summer which is an iced terra-cotta. It’s fun because metallic pinks and rose gold go so well with it and my favorite baby blue can dominate when I want my PU leather Sandler’s and moto jacket to take a backseat to my Smokey hair and tan skin for a sunset desert look. Wells has Demi permanents and they all line up well, but I will cross pollinate it with Snow White manic panic toner once in a while just because there’s nothing like it. Now if manic panic Tish makes colors like Wella does, I might jump ship... but until that day, here I stay. Great product I still recommend it since 1992.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tried and True! I've been using this product for 15 years as I have gotten more and more gray hair. Over time I have changed the developer strength, developer brand, and added some ash to tone down the color but have continued to use Color Charm. It's a classic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got the gold out! I got the 12A Frosty Ash to use as a toner since the T18 didn't tone my bleached hair as well as it has in the past. I already bleached my chemically treated hair 2 or 3 times so I didn't want to put any more lightener on it. I mixed the 12A with 30vol creme developer and it turned out perfectly!! I am thrilled about this purchase. I usually have to use two tubes of color to cover my long hair but since the gel goes further I still have another tube to use for a different time!

I used 7w caramel turned out too dark for me. How can I make it 3-4 shades lighter?

Asked by: LINDSEYS
Try washing a few times with Dawn Dishwashing liquid, then a deep conditioning treatment. If still not light enough, mix shampoo, water and a little powdered bleach and lather up and cover with plastic. Check every five minutes, then shampoo out and deep conditioner.Second method is a little more damaging.Dont leave on too long.

after bleaching the hair, does this need to be applied on dry hair? or is it okay to apply to damp hair?

Asked by: bellarosa
The color needs to be mixed with the developer and applied to dry hair. You should consult with a licensed colorist regarding previous bleaching and possible damage to your hair.

I just brought 1 box of this in 3N and the cream developer in the 3.6fl oz bottle. The box says 1:2 ratio so do i use the entire bottle of cream developer or just 2oz of it? My hair is already over processed and I do want to damage it bu adding too much

Asked by: Devr0130
Measure out two parts of the developer for 1 part of the color. Depending on what you are coloring you may not need the entire box. I use 2tbsp of color with 4 tbsp of developer for my entire roots. Hope this helps.

Hi ,my hair is like a dark red brown color, but I'm not feeling the red tone on my hair it show more in the sun, I want to dye my hair again, what color should I use to cancel the red tone in my hair to like a neutral color? Please help...

Asked by: Jayy1923
Hi there!! I would suggest doing a One N Only Color Fix with argan oil to remove that red color off your hair first, unless you wanna keep having that red undertone showing through every and any color you finally choose to put on. The process is simple but tedious yet not explained thoroughly (use bottle 1 and 2 (mixed in equal amounts in a bowl) mix enough quantity to cover the length of your hair properly saturated. If you got mid to long hair, get 2 boxes to be safe. Apply onto hair and comb through with a wide toothed comb for better covering. Leave it on for 20-30 mins then wash and rinse with water for another 15 mins to remove as much dye as possible. Apply a portion of the bottle number 3 on your hair for 5-7 mins to check for remaining dye, if your hair stays the same color it was when you first rinsed the number 1 and 2 mix, then that means you got no remaining dye to remove and you are safe to proceed with whatever color you pick. BUT if on the other hand, some of the old dye comes back after applying some of the bottle number 3, then that means you still got dye on your hair and you will need to repeat the first process (reapply a mix of bottles number 1 and 2 equal amounts, etc) to keep removing more dye from your hair. Do not repeat this process more than 2 or 3 times. It's better to do this right so you don't get a nasty surprise when applying your new hair color and having the old one show back up when you apply it. Unless you're planning to bleach your hair afterwards, i would advise you go this route first of removing as much dye as possible by checking for remaining dye with the bottle number 3. If you're planning to bleach your hair you don't need to do the last step of bottle 3. It is tedious but it is economical compared to what a salon will charge you, it's safer than bleaching the unwanted dye off and it's better to prepare your hair for a brand new color that looks like a million bucks!!! Hope this helps!!

Hair type: dark brown almost black virgin hair  Goal: cool toned ash blonde/bronde Options: Medium ash blonde/medium beige blonde/hazel blonde/light ash blond/ smokey ash blonde Rules: No brassiness/no bleach How to use it? WellaColorCharm only

Asked by: AshleyGigi
Meeeee is correct you can not get that shade of blonde on that dark hair without bleaching first. Then you need to know where to stop on the bleach. Use a toner then, not a hair color. I’ve been a hair dresser for over 30 years. My suggestion would be to go to a good hair dresser and let her do it for you. You’ll be much more pleased with the results. Doing a two process job yourself not knowing the trade, could end you up with your hair on the floor. Same with the touch ups. If you overlap that bleach, it breaks off at that point.
