Not to mention, ion Hair Color is gentle on hair, containing up to 38% less ammonia than the leading professional brands on the market. Unlock your hair’s true potential with Ion’s cutting-edge, salon-quality color science and bring home vibrancy like never before.

High Lift Blonde series is mixed 1:2 ratio: Two ounces of color to 4 ounces of 30 or 40 Volume Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If you have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps: Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair • Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head • Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather • Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps: Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair • Apply the mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather • Rinse until the water runs clear.

Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as described This isn't remotely charcoal. It's brown-based. The rinse water was brown. I'm semi-happy with the faded results. It suits my skin better than gray. But this is it. It's NOT charcoal. Not even close. It's a neutral toned dark blonde.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Light Charcoal Yeah Right! went in the store to pick out the perfect grey. The little hair on the front of the box clearly is grey. My hair was bleached blonde so it was light enough. What i got was a dark brown!!! serious!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rose Color is cuutee I have done this twice now and I am truly in love with the color. I started with a silver toned color (reference below). It gives me the pastel pink tht I want and I’m too scared to try anything else. The first time I dyed my hair with this I think I left it on for 20-30 mins. When I touched up the color I left it on for 45 mins this time and it became a more vibrant pink (nearing magenta) and it faded again nicely to the cute pastel pink. I’ve gotten many compliments on my hair and I always hear random strangers passing by talking about how they love my hair. The downsides are the fact that it does fade overtime but it fades pretty evenly. My biggest con though is how bad it looks after swimming in chlorine (again ref photo below). It’s pretty ugly but the nice thing is this dye is cheap. The fade usually lasts me a month but I also just wash my hair pretty much once a week because I need those natural oils in my fried bleached hair lol If you wash your hair often, I do not recommend this for you. Hope this helped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pewter is a dark Grey (unlike the hair sample) I’ve been trying to get my hair a dark gray from being colored black for more than 10 years. Last year I stopped coloring (white/silver roots galore) to lighten (bleach) my hair thinking I wanted to do the whole silver thing to blend my old lady jk jk (age 40) roots so, o wouldn’t have to color it anymore. Long story short, my hair ended up tainted with blue from Nchanted silver from Nrage temp shampoo. So I used Pewter with 20 volume and yes, it turned out dark but, I wanted dark grey..... now I’m happy. I use the Nrage as a shampoo and not as a hair dye and my hair has been holding up and not as dry as with bleach. Good luck Sally Friends

I used the Ion dusty violet, but my hair turned more brown than violet. I have naturally grey hair that I want to enhance. Do I dare try another Ion product? I REALLY want silver hair.

Asked by: jopitcher1
If you'd consider trying the semi-permanent, Ion has a lovely shade called Titanium. I use it on my naturally grey hair to make the color a little more steely & silvery and get lots of compliments. No developer needed, easy to use.

My hair is going grey or more of a white color. I still have A higher percentage of brown. I have four inches of length previously bleached that is now brassy. Can I use an ion white?

Asked by: SLmorrow
I wouldnt use it unless you bleach your hair first.

When I was younger my natural hair color was a reddish brown. Now at 55 my roots are a medium gray with a few silver highlights. Several months ago I got heavy red/blonde highlights. I would really like to match my roots. How can I do that?

Asked by: Angela64
You need to add hi-lights to your grow out that match your ends. It’s extremely difficult to to hi-light grow out on your own head & end up w a satisfactory result. If your goal is to lengthen the time between salon visits by using at home color your best bet is to choose ONE color that you or a friend can apply in between salon visits. If you’re loving your heavy red/blonde hi-lights, I’m afraid, it’s best left to the professionals.

Can I mix half light charcoal with medium charcoal? Both are Ion permanent colors.

Asked by: Raven054
You absolutely may! With my experiences, as long as you stay in the same brand. (keep in mind, I would never mix a permanent with anything other than another permanent. So dont mix a permanent with a semi or semi permanent.) Any of ions other colors, as long as permanent, you would be fine to mix with each other.

Hi! I bought the dusty violet in this line. I’m in the process of bleaching my hair to a very light blonde. I’m just wondering if anyone else has used this color, if so, what are the results. I really don’t want to end up w/ ugly brown. Thank you!

Asked by: HeatherFeather
Any time you put a silver that light over bleached hair, you would be smart to make sure to tone it out. Greys contain a lot of green, so if you're hair ends up with yellow tinges, you will end up with a muddy look every time.. with any grey. I use the dusty violet mixed with rose from this brand and I had to get my hair white for their pastel looking colors to cling and look like the true swatch. Once you achieve white, you will be blown away with the quality of these metallics.

Can I mix more developer for lighter results with the light charcoal gray hair color?

Asked by: Raven054
You'd be better off to look for a diluter from ion brand. I'm sure they have something.

Can it put this over my nearly black hair as just a little hair tint

Asked by: unknownasker
Im not a hair stylist, i would assume so , my hair is short so i use a small amount mixed with light brown to achieve the right shade, depending on the amount of hair your dying. I would just test using smaller amounts to start with, to let some of your natural color come threw , personal i think when hair has no multi-shade color it tends to look more unnatural.  J.
