Rated 2 out of 5 by from Waiting & waiting & waiting & waiting.... I absolutely love the hair color, it lasts longer than Madison but it would be nice if I could ever receive it!!! Over a month I’ve been waiting. My other items came in a timely manner but I really needed this one. So I’ve skipped Sally and purchased somewhere else and plan to continue to do so in the future. Bye bye

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible grey dye I bought the light charcoal in store because permanent ion titanium I got online was old. I was also swayed because the only titanium they had was semi-permanent and the swatch looked silvery white. The swatch for the light charcoal was my dream color. But it came out a blue brown mess. The roots came out very blue and it went down into an ombre of different shades of grey. I'm upset because they even called over the manager to ask her if I was light enough and she said yes. I'm upset because between my order online with old stuff and what I bought in store I spent around $54 to achieve grey hair and now I'm stripping the color and I've ended up with a brown close to my natural hair color. I can't even return anything because the stores and online won't return anything right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ion Permanent Silver Pearl Is Beautiful I have finally found the most beautiful shade of silver grey. I lifted to a level 10 and used the Ion Permanent Silver Pearl with the corresponding 10% creme developer since I was trying to avoid further damage and o my wanted to deposit color. Omg it’s beautiful. Even my hairdresser who had refused to color my hair grey loved it and asked me what color I had used do she can use on her clients. I’ve washed it several times? It’s lightened a bit but still a beautiful silver. Photo below after 4 washes. Thank you for having this color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from the worst. i bought medium charcoal so i could do an ombre with the arctic fox “blue jean baby.” when i washed out my hair, the area that that was supposed to be black... was... light brown. ive never used a hair dye so bad before. if i could get a refund, i would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great color, just didn't stay long Pretty, but it faded fast for me...my hair is pretty stripped out, so that's not surprising. It's a great shade, though, with lots of shine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE this color!!! I had a really bad experience in a hair salon ( as I usually do), I wanted them to do my hair grey and lavender. I wanted a darker root, grey and then lavender on the ends. The hair stylist acted as though she was very confident she could do it. Even took a before picture and asked if I wanted to be turned away from the mirror so I would be surprised when I saw the end result (she did NOT take an after picture and I'm so glad I said no!!). Needless to say, I ended up paying over 200 dollars for my hair to look the exact same as it did when I walked in, just a week later. They refused to fix it and blamed me and my hair for the out come. So I took matters into my own hands ( i know quite a bit about doing my own hair) and decided to do it myself. And I AM SO HAPPY THAT I DID!!! This color is freaking gorgeous!!! My hair was already a very light blonde color so I bleached it first, used the lavender moon toner and then colored my hair with the light charcoal!! It is absolutely beautiful!!! It came out exactly as I hoped it would!! If you try this and it comes out a lot darker than you thought it would, just wash it right away and it will lighten up tremendously giving you a beautiful dark grey hair color!! I definitely recommend this product!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as described This isn't remotely charcoal. It's brown-based. The rinse water was brown. I'm semi-happy with the faded results. It suits my skin better than gray. But this is it. It's NOT charcoal. Not even close. It's a neutral toned dark blonde.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Light Charcoal Yeah Right! went in the store to pick out the perfect grey. The little hair on the front of the box clearly is grey. My hair was bleached blonde so it was light enough. What i got was a dark brown!!! serious!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rose Color is cuutee I have done this twice now and I am truly in love with the color. I started with a silver toned color (reference below). It gives me the pastel pink tht I want and I’m too scared to try anything else. The first time I dyed my hair with this I think I left it on for 20-30 mins. When I touched up the color I left it on for 45 mins this time and it became a more vibrant pink (nearing magenta) and it faded again nicely to the cute pastel pink. I’ve gotten many compliments on my hair and I always hear random strangers passing by talking about how they love my hair. The downsides are the fact that it does fade overtime but it fades pretty evenly. My biggest con though is how bad it looks after swimming in chlorine (again ref photo below). It’s pretty ugly but the nice thing is this dye is cheap. The fade usually lasts me a month but I also just wash my hair pretty much once a week because I need those natural oils in my fried bleached hair lol If you wash your hair often, I do not recommend this for you. Hope this helped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pewter is a dark Grey (unlike the hair sample) I’ve been trying to get my hair a dark gray from being colored black for more than 10 years. Last year I stopped coloring (white/silver roots galore) to lighten (bleach) my hair thinking I wanted to do the whole silver thing to blend my old lady jk jk (age 40) roots so, o wouldn’t have to color it anymore. Long story short, my hair ended up tainted with blue from Nchanted silver from Nrage temp shampoo. So I used Pewter with 20 volume and yes, it turned out dark but, I wanted dark grey..... now I’m happy. I use the Nrage as a shampoo and not as a hair dye and my hair has been holding up and not as dry as with bleach. Good luck Sally Friends

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pewter is trash I bought the pewter thinking I like the sample color in the store better than the light charcoal I went into the store to get... basically I sat around with this dye on my head for no reason it did not do anything

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I love this color!! I really like the color but it doesn't last longer than a week . Within a week my hair is back to light blonde again. I've used this twice and it always washes out in a week. I've bleached my hair and that's lasted 6 weeks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I bought this and yes I checked the color swatch. Some have not and thought they were getting the actually color Pewter.....It is the best brown color I have ever found and believe me I have experimented with many! It conditions you hair amazingly and my hair was very dry and damaged...The best Ion color yet and product!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turned my bleached platinum color brown I've never been so unhappy about the results and I was a hair model for years that allowed stylists at shows to do whatever they needed to on stage. I've been letting my natural gray come in and bleaching a section of my very dark brown hair to cammoflage the gray. I've gotten great results with the semi-permanent Ion colors with grays in them, but they don't last long so I tried something more permanent with the Dusty Violet. I'm fuming because it turned my hair a full, mousey brown. Not violet, not gray, not metallic. I'm absolutely fuming!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Light Charcoal isn’t Charcoal at all I bought this yesterday thinking it would be cute for summer, thinking a pale grey against my very yellow skin tone would look nice. Well, I dyed my hair an hour after buying the dye because the lady at Sally’s said it was really cute, I had asked her if it left and blue/green tones and she assured me it did not. Well, she was a liar, left my hair a muted grey tone with blotchy greens in some spots, mind you I have almost white hair (bleached ofc) and my hair still managed to not take color in some spots? I’m frustrated as the workers had either never used the dye and was just pushing for a sale, or didn’t want me in her hair after asking a few questions. Severely disappointed in not only the staff, but the dye itself. If you’re looking for a GREY equipped with no undertones, this is not it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Alright! Just used it today. I started off with a mix of level 10 and level 8 hair. Would definitely rec. being at a pale blonde before using. The pale blonde spots in my hair look the best, but did come out more blue than grey at the roots (not too obvious in pictures) and I did my roots last. Not bad, but probably will experiment with other gray dyes. I will say the pictures of my hair look a lot better than in person!

Will one of the darker charcoal colors take to light golden blonde hair without bleaching it? I’m attempting to get an ashy/grey brown color and most regular ash brown dyes just look like a neutral brown.

Asked by: Sydmh_11
It should work. I would use a higher volume peroxide. Like 30 volume.

I used the Silver P I bleached my hair, washed with purple shampoo & conditioner for toning because I had a little brassiness in the back and below my ear. Most of the color is BEAUTIFUL except in those spots, more of a an ashy blonde? Suggestions?

Is this product vegan?

Asked by: Lauramdg
I am unsure. I don’t believe it contains animal products or they test on them but label should say so. I have found it doesn’t really come out on my level 10 hair. It’s more of a toner? Is what I’ve been told. I don’t ever notice a difference when used

I want to color my hair silver what do I need to do that I have yellow that won’t go away

Asked by: Brownie girl
Depending on how yellow your hair is it may require more lightening, after that youd want to tone it and then apply your desired color. Going silver at home can be very damaging so make sure to also get a hair masque for damaged hair. If you apply a grey to yellow you will end up with a greenish/brown outcome.

I bought a gray ion dye thinking it was a mid range shade, but it ended up being an almost white silver shade. These small swatches dont really give much of an idea of the actual color. Can you recommend a medium gray so I don't buy the wrong color again?

Asked by: Sarah278
Unfortunately the swatches are done on white hair if your looking for a midcolour gray i have used titanium to achieve the results your asking for. Unfortunately so many variables go into choosing the desired colour you want to achieve. You dont say what hair colour your starting with. So to achieve what you want it difficult to give a precise answer. P

I have dark hair dyed. I’ve only been touching up around my face, so the top and back has been growing out my natural grey. I saw a you tube video of someone not using developer. No bleach. How does that work?

Asked by: Holy grey
Always follow the manufacturer’s directions. If you’re working with permanent, Demi-permanent, you need to use a developer.  Bleach/lightener is used to lighten the hair significantly. What is the look you are going for?

Hi there! My natural hair color is dark brown. My hair is ombred right now, and I'm hoping to do a grey ombre. To put darkest charcoal on the roots, do I need to lighten them? Or will that cover brown?

Asked by: Brittany37
Yes this color is very dark so it should cover brown hair just fine
