Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Change Whatsoever I have dark brown hair and I got the ash blonde hi color for dark hair. I used 40 developer, left it on 45 minutes and no lift at all! My hair had no color previously. It is the save exactly color as before. Going back to straight bleach for my highlights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works if you use developer with it Maybe this won't work as well for those with very dark hair but I like it a lot. I have medium/light brown hair and mix it with 20 vol. developer and leave it on about 20 minutes for very subtle dark ash blonde highlights. (I use a few foils sort of haphazardly). A stronger developer and more time would probably lighten more but I like the results with this. For my hair, anyway, it works great and doesn't leave my hair brassy looking. Your results may be different though.

Is this product good to use if you are trying to dye your hair other bright colors without the harmful effects of bleach? (e.g. dying it using this blonde, and then dying your hair blue )

Asked by: killakay0723
Not a good idea.  This doesn’t strip your hair like bleaching so bright colours won’t be vibrant.

Does it lift previously colored hair?

Asked by: Bquirky2
No it really didn't lift the color? It more or less toned it into that ashy blond but the color didn't stay very long either. It might work for colors closer to lighter blonds, but I didn't get much lift out of it.

I used this and was wondering if I applied a color remover, would the dye come out?

Asked by: Elc199523
It is a permanent color so maybe not especially if you dyed it on virgin hair. If you dyed it a natural color like blonde, no. But red maybe I’ll only lighten it

What amount of 30 volume developer to use with highlight creme

Asked by: Sunshine629
I tried to use just 30 volume and leave it on for 20 min for the most time but my hair came out too bright, like orange. I have dark brown hair. So I put 1/2 a lid of 30 volume and 1/2 a lid of 10 volume and leave it on for 30 min. And it comes out perfect. 20 volume doesn't take the color good enough. The front hair line i recommend using a small comb in the roots to have a longer lasting color in the front. good luck

Does this have a mix? I only see a tube in the box???

Asked by: TerrieMiller
I'm afraid you have to buy the developer separately. You'll also want to pick up a bottle to mix it in and apply it.

I have black hair and wanna get ash blonde, if I buy hicolor loreal ash blonde will that work on me?

Asked by: Tsuna 101
Hey! No maam... Unfortunately getting our ash blondes is a process. To achieve your desired color properly, your hair will need to be lightened first... I would say once you get to a color a tad lighter than honey blonde... Wait 4-6 weeks before applying HiColor to avoid chemical burns and your hair breaking off. The HiColor will then be able to safely turn your hair into ash blonde.

My hair isn't virgin, it has prevoius colors but I've been using purple shampoo from ion to take away past colors for more than a year. Will this product work since my hair is now black and has been for a year now? I want to dye it lighter without bleach

Asked by: Concon14
If you're hair is dyed black, this will not lift your hair enough. If it is naturally black, it will leave it a reddish brown or med-light brown at best. You will have to bleach and then you can use this as a toner.

Does this have bleach in it?

Asked by: Rain0358
No. The developer strength you use determines the lift. I have dark hair and I use it in my roots. It lifts to a golden brown with 40 volume for 40 minutes. I put a plastic bag or disposable shower cap on to let the heat from my head help accelerate it. I used to pay hundreds to get my highlights done . I started using this in between monthly salon visits to save money. Bleach will Lift you hair to a lighter color than this. You can tone down with a 10 volume.

i´ve been coloring my hair red for a couple of years, i´ve used this same brand in magenta for 7 months, how many time should i use a colour removal before putting this to achieve a similar color? would it work?

Asked by: sussieQ11
I would use a single color remover at a time, to see how much red pigment is lifted. Please give your hair time to rest before and after each treatment. Depending on what level your hair has been lifted to, you probably won't even need this dye. You could probably get away with a toner instead. If you use this dye while your hair is red or pink, it will most likely turn purple.

I put the ash blonde into some developer and put it on a strip of my hair for an hour and nothing showed up, my hair is dark virgin brown hair and was freshly cut yesterday, what should I do?

Asked by: faithxcx
From my knowledge. If you use a higher developer it'll help lift up your hair color. I have Dark hair, i would personally use a 40 developer & leave in for 30 mins. Remember that wet hair usually looks darker than dry hair. Also the higher the developer the more shades itll lift. When i try to go lighter i either use a 30 or 40 developer (depending on the color). If i try a reddish color i use a 20 or 30 and if i ever want to go back to dark brown/black i would use a 10. Ect.

How well would Ash Blonde turn up on dark auburn hair with a 40 developer?

Asked by: Amy
Dark auburn hair has a lot of red pigment you will lift to a caramel blondish color but that's about it. If your hair is dyed this color it won't lift at all. Artificial Color does not lift Artificial color unless you have bleached your hair and stripped the pigment out. All you will do is cause a lot of damage to your hair and you will not achieve the desired shade. You must prelighten to be blonde because any shade above a level 8 does not have any red.

typically no, none of sally beauty's products are really ready to use. you have to buy a developer and mix it yourself. if you go into the store and buy it, you can get a expert opinion on which to use.

Okay so would this product lighten jet black hair?

Asked by: Nicky
Put OOPS on your hair first it will take all the black dye out. Then use 2 shades lighter than the color you want with HiColor. I had tried bleach an all it did was ruin my hair an make it a fiery red. Oops doesn't have bleach or peroxide. Look at some videos on YouTube.

can you use this after you have dyed your hair before

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. Strip that hair color out first though. DON'T BLEACH IT OUT. If you don't, it will come out brassy, just like any other blonde hair dye, and your hair will be a lot more damaged and weighed down.

How many boxes would I need for my hair and extensions?

I have pretty short hair, just goes past my shoulders, and it's not very thick, but I also have 18 inch real human hair extensions. I saw a review on youtube and a girl said she had to use 6 boxes and her hair was just a little bit longer than mine, but that seems pretty ridiculous. help?
Asked by: anonymous
My hair is down to my belly button medium thickness, and i only needed 2 bottles. However i had to go over it again to get a more ash blonde color, so it ended up being 4 bottles. Either she didn't mix it with the developer properly, or she had to go over it again like i did. Id say go for 3 bottles. 2 for your hair, and one for the extension. you'll probably still have some left over.

What will happen if I use this product on my dyed dark brown hair? Will it have any effect? Does it just work on virgin hair that is naturally dark?

Asked by: Anonymous
This product can produce vibrant blond highlights on dark hair without the need for pre-lightening. If you use heat, a one-step process takes about 15 minutes; if heat is not used, allow yourself 30 minutes.
