Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Used it with 20 Oreon and it did absolutely NOTHING. even left it in for a half hour as opposed to 20 minutes like it recommended. Not to mention the directions were hard to find I ended having to Google it. But there are about 5 placements of the warnings on the box. Next time, I'm not buying things that are recommended for dark hair.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Blonde hicolor has minimal lift I bought the Champagne and Honey blonde hicolor along with vol 30 developer to add hilight to my dark brown virgin hair. I have plenty of experience with dying my own hair, I just had not dyed it in a few years. I tried this product as an alternative to bleach in order to give myself hilights. I let it process for 30 minutes after applying. When I washed it out, the lift was minimal, and the results were brassy brownish orange. I am pretty disappointed. I should have gone with bleach and toner like I was originally planning, but tried this as a potentially gentler process. My hair still feels somewhat dry afterwards, I don’t have the results I wanted, and now I am afraid to bleach it over the dyed parts in case I’ll damage it too much. Would not recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Color did not hold I have Medium Brown Hair. I purchased the Intense Red. It was pretty for a few days but everyday for about 2 weeks every time I washed my hair it would rinse out pink. after 3 weeks my hair was pretty much faded to a light copper color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Product does not work. It is full of strong Ammonia. My head hurt for 2 days later. The color doesnt lift and doesnt work without bleaching. I have to now bleach to fix my hair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sooo good I did this color on a client with Virgin level 1-2 hair & her hair lifted beautifully. It did not look brassy at all & her hair felt so good like nothing was even done to it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product for dark haired beauties. I had heard a lot about this product so I just went with it hoping it would turn out well. It certainly did not disappoint - but my ends were faded to a lighter brown. It's extremely vibrant considering there's no bleach process. I definitely will turn back to this for my touch ups.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No, just no Used the product for years since I was 15, worked amazing and was a dark red. Suddenly I used it to redo and my hair wasn't red at all even though I had just used the same product previously. they must have changed something because my hair is now brown

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This I have like level 2 black hair, so it's a pretty difficult to lift I decided to do my own hair because I don't have the resources to process for hours, seriously damage my hair with a ton of bleach and toner, and spend so much money because the process takes forever. This has gone okay. Obviously, my roots are much more brilliant than the rest of my hair, but so far, I really love the color. Very pretty, very vibrant. I have a volume 40 that I'm going to keep processing the ends of my hair with in a few days. I knew the process would take time but I haven't lost one strand of hair, and it has lifted. Can't wait to see how it goes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love The Color I've been using this color for 6 months now. It lasts and it doesn't dry out my hair. I'm very happy. I get lots of compliments on the color.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a darker red I actually wanted a more brighter color, but didn't realize this was a darker red. Still looked good on my naturally black hair, though. I ended up using a box of the L'Oreal hicolor hilights in red a few days later. I did get a slightly brighter red, but I knew that my hair was already so black, it could only lift the color 3-4 levels to get the dye in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lifts hair color perfectly! I had originally wanted to go red with my hair but decided that it would require more maintenance than I was willing to put in so I decided on Soft Auburn. My hair is naturally very dark brown almost black. I did have color in my hair from about the middle to my ends ( sort of ombre if you will). It was supposed to be red but the stylist didn't do a good job and my hair was virgin when I had dyed it that time. I didn't want to go spend tons of money on dying my hair just for the results to be disappointing again. I had never dyed my hair by myself before so I was super nervous. I mean I've used box dyes but my sister had always did it for me. Needless to say it got pretty messy and I was still pretty anxious about the color I had already had in my hair because I know color doesn't lift color. When I was washing my hair, I was worried the color didn't lift at all but once my hair dried the change was obvious. I was ecstatic! The color came out so even ( I had also used Ion Pre-treatment before applying the dye) and it was noticeable even indoors! I am so happy with how it came out! It didn't cover up some white hairs like I wanted it to but I could live with that. Also, it was very easy to clean up. I just wet a wash cloth with warm water and the color wiped off easily from my skin as well as my bathroom sink. I highly recommend this product if you have dark hair and are trying to get a lighter color. Granted not everyone has the same hair so I was lucky that the color lifted the color I already had in my hair. I would say use this only on natural hair unless you're willing to take the risk. Worst comes to worst, you can always just dye it darker but I am not a professional hair stylist so take my advice with caution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from L'Oreal Excellence HiColor Red Hot - Love It!!!! I absolutely love this hair color! My hair was previous dyed black which I was so bored of. I went to a salon and got highlights and they put a 6rv on my head. I had terrible hot roots (hair much lighter at the root) and my ends had faded after a week to a strawberry blonde. Not wanting to go back to the salon I decided to give this a try. I put it on my ends first since that was the lightest part for 15 minutes, then did the rest of my hair and left it on for 15 minutes (total of 30 minutes for my ends). The result is absolutely stunning. I have even hair that is a beautiful red and I've received so many complements on it! *One thing to remember is that hair color won't remove hair color* I still have some low lights from the black that I had in my hair before but the result is mostly red.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "I love your hair color!" "I love your hair color", is what strangers often say to me. Once I closed my salon I could not use the German hair colors I adored, so I searched for a close alternative. The intense red by L'Oreal was what I found and, to my delight, I discovered it was almost identical as the high-priced colors I had imported. The rich brunette with red tones gives my hair a beautiful shine and a luxurious feel. When it's first done the colors are so vibrant. But, unlike other "reds" the color doesn't fade unevenly. It slowly dissipates, leaving a warm rich tone everywhere but the roots. And I usually wait way too long to color my hair. I highly recommend this hair color with a 10 vol. cream peroxide for brunettes. Use on lighter hair and you'll get a different effect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product!! I had just previously colored my hair a 4R. Not happy with how it turned out. After staring at many many colors trying to find a way to fix my awful hair color I found this!!!!! I am very pleased with how it turned out. I used a 20 developer (One N Only Argan Oil developer) And only left it on for 20 minutes. I also use One N Only Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner, also used the deep moistture repair mask right after coloring my hair as well. My hair is soft and am very happy about the overall color i achieved. The only thing i always will recommend is to be in a well ventilated area when dying your hair!!!! The smell is strong!!!!! You wont regret using this product!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dye I don't know what the salons use, but I prefer the Hicolor line to it. I have a sensitive scalp and find the salon stuff usually burns. Also, being someone with dark hair who isn't a fan of bleach, I have never really been satisfied with the salon jobs I've had in the past. With bleach, my hair is dead. Without it, my hair just doesn't lighten as much as I want. With HiColor, I am able to go shades lighter without the burn or the bleach. My hair stays soft and feels healthy. I've tried the reds, blondes, and coppers and love them! I don't waste money on the salon anymore, of course. I just do it myself!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from works well! I had looked at reviews here prior to getting this product and followed the advice of some of the ladies here. Thank you so much! I'm not a pro but i have done my own coloring on/off for many years. I have to say the results are just perfect! No mess, easy to use, and I also got the standard packet of pre-color treatment and post-coloring hair is soft, color is just what I wanted, and no, it did NOT run off. I have some Wen brand shampoo/conditioner so I'll use that for the next week to help the color, but will go back to my usual no sulfate shampoo and conditioner after. I plan to return to my childhood hair color of light auburn :) My hair did like my mom and got darker as an adult. She remained blond, I turned dark brunette with reddish undertones, but you can't see them much at all. I look way better as lighter brunette. lol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovee this color! I love love this color! It's perfect color. I don't want it to be too crazy red! My natural hair color is black. So, this product really works! I will buy it again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product but I don't have the hair for it. This is an amazing colour and I absolutely loved it. The problem is my ends would just stay black no matter how long I kept it in on my ends and my roots would be a neutral red (but got lighter a few days later). I would dye it the same colour the next day keeping the dye in my ends longer than my roots and I would just get the same results. I guess that's what I get for dying my hair black all these years. Still a great product though, just not for me.

How long does it normally last for?

Asked by: Makayla219
I have used sizzling copper for 20 years wirh 30 developer on very dark brown curly hair and i go for two months without my color getting drab. I usually color it every 3 months. I use Aveda Madder Root color depositing conditioner on it afrer it starts to look drab before i can color next. If i had time, i would color it every 1.5 months to never let it get dull. It's thr best color ever. My fave.

Juju Bean question what color is your hair before and what color is it after you dye it? Do you have pictures you can upload?

Asked by: Atlanta888888
My daughter has used this to lighten her hair so she can put fun colors in her hair. Her natural hair color is a dark brown, we have used the champagne to lighten it. It comes out kind of a medium gold blond. This is not allowing me to put a picture on it, but she ended up with kind of raspberry hair. If she had not used this product, she would not have been able to get that color.

Hopeful Ann- I am interested dying my dark brown hair blonde. I see you use golden blonde. How does that turn out on your hair?

Asked by: Atlantagal8888
It will be a true golden blonde, depending on the health of your hair, how long you let it develop on your hair, how long you let the mixture develop/stand before using it. I love it.

What do I need to buy to go with this to change hair color from brown to this shade?

Nothing really just buy the shade you want and buy peroxide volume 30 and diy your hair every month 1/2 to let breath and until you get the shade you want .

Hi, I bought a boxed red dye for my black hair and it didn't take. I only have the roots Abit red. Will this product make my hair visibly red? My hair is naturally black. What kind of developer should I use?

Asked by: mariag88
I’m Asian and my hair is black. This will certainly lift your hair and not be brassy with the red color. It’s my go to for the last 7 years. If it’s the first time and your hair hasn’t been already been lifted it will take two processing times for it to most likely get the results matching the swatches. So dye it once with this and you can either take a break or dye it again same day just condition. That’s what I did the first time. Now that it’s been lifted I on my dye it once. I use magenta (highlight color) and red hot and i mix them and dye my whole head. I use 30 developer from Sally’s brand.
