Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why is it washing out when it’s a permanent dye? Very beautiful and bright color Payoff but fades very quickly. I also had a problem with it washing out even tho it’s supposed to be permanent but otherwise a pretty decent dye.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Very vibrant, easy to use. It didn’t leave my hair feeling damaged, and I really enjoyed not having to bleach my hair to get it to such a bold color. The only downside of this “permanent” dye is that it washes out and fades rather quickly. But I use a color depositing conditioner to keep the color rich between dyes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Really great hair dye, the magenta looks way more pink at first but will die down after a while. If you use these particular dyed use John Frieda's shampoo and conditioner for red hair, it works wonders and has protected my hair. Using the shade "red" is the perfect red color for hair.

What is the undertone of this ?

Asked by: Daisy_25
Magenta has a pink undertone then phases in a Caramel color and Red has a orange undertone. I haven’t used copper. Hope that helps

I have dark black hair on my roots and a caramel balayage mid way. I want to dye my hair with hicolor hilights in magenta, should I still use a developer for my light brown/caramel hair or only for the roots since its meant only for dark hair?

Asked by: cthiru24
I am a licensed hairstylist. You can put it on your lightened hair some people like the 2 tone a brighter red in a darker red together so do not take that advice you can definitely put it on lightened hair.

HiColor Red HiLights Permanent Creme Hair Color Copper - do I need any developer?

I just used this with the 20 developer. The red is not as bright as I would like it. Can I re dye it to see if it would take on more red? Would I use the same 20 developer?

Asked by: Kittyred
The higher the developer, the brighter it’ll get. But at the same time the higher the damage. I use 40 the first time and 20 or 30 for touch ups

Yes, the magenta and red are mixed together with the addition of developer. The colors mixed together make a vibrant color combination and look awesome!

So I've gotten my hair both bleached and dyed over a month ago, but it isn't as bright of a Red that I would like it to be, would using this product make it brighter?

Asked by: Jasmines1993
If your hair is already bleached and dyed, coloring it with Red will brighten it. However, to not further damage your hair, begin mixing it with 20 volume developer. If it isn't as bright as you wanted, then move up to 30 Volume next time. Be sure to condition like crazy in between but use conditioner specifically for colored hair.

Is this meant to be only for hi lights in your hair?

Asked by: Liljanaw
No it may say that in the name, but it's not just for highlighting. I've been using it on my entire head, mixing Med Intense Violet (a different brand) and Magenta and the color is vibrant and exactly what I want. It took a long time (almost a year!) to find the right combination but I finally did.

If I’ve used semi permanent dye on my hair before(a few months ago) will this product work without bleaching/colour remover? Don’t want to damage my hair badly

Asked by: Leah1745
Yes, it works with out bleaching as long as you didn't have your hair dyed black. I used 40 developer the first time and then 10 after.

I have natural strawberry blonde hair and it’s currently colored 3N.  I have hot roots (Brassy gold and orange) that are resistant to color, no matter what I do to tone them or process them.  Is it possible to use this?  I don’t want to bleach.

Asked by: MsFrustrated
Yes, it may not lift to the color it shows due to being colored 3N prior, but it will lift a lot! I used it on a client with dark brown hair and she went to an arielle from little mermaid red! It was really pretty and nice to only do one process. I used a 40 developer. Always do a test stand first!

I have dark brown hair and u mixed magenta and red together.  I got hot roots looks pinker on my roots and the rest looks darker only looks lighter with the lighting.  I want my roots to even out with the rest of my hair.  Any suggestions?

Asked by: Bluechic_80
Occasionally if I haven’t washed my hair the day before I apply the fresh dye, I’ve noticed the dye doesn’t penetrate the roots as well as usual and the roots take up the dye unevenly. I assume it’s bc the roots are protected naturally by natural oils so that the fresh dye doesn’t penetrate as well. Uneven color has also occurred if I haven’t mixed the colors thoroughly before applying. But in no case have I had to recolor the roots. Things seem to even out by themselves. Also note that I use the same peroxide strength (20) each time, and a timer so that every application is completed and rinsed out in a similar time frame.

How long does loreal hicolor magenta last

Asked by: Anablack
Depending on what kind of shampoo you use and how often you wash your hair. Mine can last longer than 2 months, using color care shampoo and red enhancing conditioner. Washing hair about 2-3 times a week with cool water.

Most would advise you to wait a few days to a week at least. Once you use the red, sometimes the semi permanent red from ion helps keep it vibrant without harming the hair too much.

This is mostly for hair that has not been colored before. However, I got lucky with it working each time I used it to lightening my hair. Yes, you will need a developer either way.

I got my hair highlighted red at the salon 3 months ago and it faded in 3 weeks. Since my hair is bleached, can i just apply it to my whole hair to get back my red highlights? I dont wanna color my whole head so i dont wanna use developer. is it possible?

Asked by: Varcity13
Not with this product. Since this already has bleach in it, it WILL change your natural hair color some, even without developer. You will need to redo the process. I suggest several things to slow fading. Doing these simple(ish) things will help you go months without turning pink with this stuff. 1) Is the biggest thing. Wash your hair in cold water. I had to demand a salon do this. 2) Invest in Paraben free shampoo and conditioner. 3) Buy an extra tube (or 2) and put one into your new paraben free shampoo and conditioner. 4) Wash less often. Human hair, unless you're sweating excessively and regularly doesn't need to be washed daily. 3 times a week will work. With these processes in place, I only have to dye my hair with this stuff every 6 months or so and that's because I've got 3-4 inches of black root that needs done.

Will this dye seriously damage my hair? I have very black, above the shoulder, oil hair and Im very concerned about the texture of my hair once I use this product. Everyone is talking about the color, but what about the texture after you used the product?

Asked by: xojadine
I’ve been using this product with a 30 Volume developer and I have natural dark thick curly hair and it honestly makes my hair so vibrant, soft, and shiny. It’s by far the best hair dye I’ve used and I recommend it. All hair dye will eventually damage your hair but I don’t feel like this product does at lot of damage. I usually do a leave in conditioner mask a week or two after I dye it to give my hair a bit of a break and give it back some of the nutrients it could of lost. I’m no professional but this product is great especially if you have dark hair and are trying to reach a bright red for an example.

So I just used this product with a vol 30 developer Saturday. How long would I have to wait to redo my hair? I have thickish shoulder length dark brown hair.

Asked by: Lovelylilac1005
I been using this product for about 5 years now in magenta. It depends how you maintain your hair mine last for about 2-3 months and that’s because I use (Riveting Reds Color Replenishing Shampoo and conditioner). By the time I redo my hair The color is already Faded color but doesn’t look ugly, for some people i know that try this product doesn’t last as long because they don’t maintain or use a red shampoo.

Hello wanted to know if this product can you just use by itself or you need more or other products

Asked by: Alicia1117
If you have very light coloured hair (blonde) yes. But if you are a brunette, then you need a developer. 20 or 30 creme developer. The developer lifts your natural hair colour so the red can be absorbed. I have coarse dark brown hair so I use 30 creme developer. 1:3 ratio works best for me. But if you have lighter hair or hair type then do a 1:2 ratio.

If I wanted to get a maroon color or burgundy which color would I get or which colors to mix?? I also have thick native hair about medium length how many box’s?  And if this brand will work on pre dyed black hair?  I dyed it about three months ago

Asked by: Hopefull92
I usually mix red and burgundy together makes a nice deep bright color in my opinion, depending on your developer volume you use. Two boxes should work. It should work on your pre-dyed black hair it’s made for dark hair but it also depends on your volume developer.

Yes you can. I do that and it comes out very pretty. And it depends on how light or dark your hair is for it to be vibrant.
