Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a shade of blonde at all! I just attempted this color for highlights on my daughter’s hair. She has medium-dark brown hair & this color did nothing. Her hair is the exact same color it was. We used the swatch in the store to compare it to her hair & the swatch showed it to be a several shades lighter than her natural color which is not what we got. Very disappointed that I wasted my time & money using this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use I like the color and the quality but the best thing about this brand is the easy measurement labeled on the tube.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product! I have very dark brown hair, it almost looks black depending on the light and I I love this product. It works great on covering my greys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I love this hair color. It's not that blue looking black. It is close to black but more dark brown. It leaves my hair shiny.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 6nn Dark Blonde Turned my hair super dark brown Bought dark in blonde which was a nice dark blonde color in the store however left it on my hair for 25 minutes and turn my hair dark brown not happy at all. Waste of money, will never use again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It was great but not the exact color I originally had blonde hair almost platinum and I wanted to go a little light brown like caramel color . I used this and it turned my hair completely dark brown. And there went all my hard work on my blonde hair ... WAY TO DARK

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You’re as young as you feel! Does a great job of covering the gray and aged well and naturally. Easy to apply and skin stain is minimal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Color is DARK brown I usually color my hair with the Ion creme hair color because it's not nearly as messy as the liquid. This time the creme was so think I had trouble applying it to my hair. I actually missed a few areas, but I only realized this after I had washed it out. My hair felt softer and healthier after coloring. It was almost black though, so be sure to go a shade or two lighter the first time to test it out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I was amazed how much of a shine it actually gave my hair. I always just do my roots however this time, the last 15-20minutes I ran it through all my hair just in case there was a difference from the non intense 2NN that I usually use. Happy I did, my hair felt like I conditioned it and it was very shiny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Color - it's what it says it is. These colors are EXACTLY how they show. You have to use the right developer with it. 10 will make it darker than it says and that's what I wanted vs using 20. Before just getting a color - research about developer as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No where near a BLONDE! Turned hair black!!! I used Ion Color Brilliance 6nn to tone down my hair, a level 8 copper red I did to myself with a bleach shampoo cap to try and get rid of my auburn hair. The Sally's consultant told me this would work perfectly to just tone down the red/copper and make it ONE shade darker. I processed it with 10 developer and was HORRIFIED when I rinsed my hair. I'm now a level 2 dark blue/black hair! Darker than my natural shade which is a level 4! AWFUL! Now I have to remove all this color, destroying my hair in the process. The Ion rep said this product worked as it should - apparently the "nn" series is for grey hair and adds an extra pigment. NO ONE AT SALLY'S TOLD ME THIS! HORRIBLE PRODUCT!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Brown NOT blonde I bought the color a week ago I was waiting to use the 8nn "intense light blonde" when I got my hair light enough. I went from black box dyed hair to really light blonde after 3 bleachings. I was so happy to get it light enough for the blonde I wanted and after I washed the dye out and went to the mirror I started crying, DISAPPOINTED. It's like an ashy BROWN color no blonde at all. Now I'm gonna have to damage my hair even more to get the actual blonde I want.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hair Turned Black My hair turned extra dark brown, almost black using this. Definitely shocked. I can tolerate it since my hair is naturally dark brown and it gave my hair a lot of shine, but it’s not the color advertised.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WAY TOO DARK I had mostly blonde hair/overall highlights and wanted to go back brunette for awhile. I picked the 5nn which was labeled as a dark blonde. This color is dang near black and I have watched my hair 10 times and it is NOT coming out. I'm so upset that I've ruined my hair. My friends are stylists and I've colored my hair many times. A level 5 should not come out BLACK!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ION 9NN Very Intense Blonde I don't know if blonde means something different to ION, but the color my bleached hair turned after this product is FAR from blonde! It was bright, and now its close to a grey brown. I'm so upset!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard to dye These dyes are so easy to use. The color lasts and does not seem to fade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE BEST HAIR COLOR PRODUCT I'VE EVER USED I've used Ion Color for many years and it does a good job, stays in longer than its competition and has never damaged my hair.
Date published: 2018-12-27
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not in love.. The color is completely neutral, so if you are looking for a color that is rich, this is not the best shade for that. However, it is very dark, it's as close to black as you can get without actually being black. Also, if you have a lot of grey hair this will not work well. After about 8 or 9 days my grey was already showing, and I had only washed 2x since coloring. In gereral ION has good products, it's only this one product that I'm not thrilled with.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New packaging I am very unhappy since the new packaging. The tube is longer and narrower and now extremely hard to squeeze. The hole seems smaller as well. Please fix!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed I’ve used this product in the past, but the dark brown damaged my hair big time!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Turned my Highlights into Lowlights I have experience highlighting my own hair successfully for the most part- but this time I wanted to try a permanent color with Volume 10 Dev. to tone them instead of the usual demi-permanent color I use. Mistake. The color is the right tone for what I want but it literally got rid of all my highlights- I'm severely disappointed in ion. I got "Very Light Intense Blonde" for my orange-blonde highlights on my brown hair and it darkened them up so much that they're hardly visible anymore. I would highly suggest buying several shades lighter than intended to tone hair. Yes- I know this technique is only for depositing color (i.e. no "lifting") but I didn't expect it to deposit so much that my highlights would be gone. I've used the demi-permanent ion formula and it worked fine- but always looked a little "dimension-less"- the permanent color looks good dimension and depth-wise but it ruined my highlights. I'm not taking the blame on this one- I got one of the lightest blondes they had and it still ended up coming out too dark. Maybe I didn't open the cuticle enough (or maybe too much) with Vol.10- but that's literally what it said to do on the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this color I love this color and the way it makes my hair look. It is more like a 8n in the other ion permanent line. It comes out to a medium blonde in my natural dark blonde hair and the grey comes out looking like slight highlights giving my hair dimension. I have had scalp skin cancer so the low amonia with the sensitive scalp drops works for me

Rated 2 out of 5 by from My hair went dark reddy brown I’ve used this colour before so I don’t understand WHY it turned dark weird browny red blonde. It’s awful. I’m going to exchange the five other tubes I bought. This isn’t what I wanted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Package Love your color line but please go back to a darker tube could packaging. It’s very hard to see the print on the tubes

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 'Medium brown' is jet black Used 4nn, wanted to go medium brown as the box and swatch in store state. Ended up with completely black hair.
Date published: 2018-10-20
Rated 2 out of 5 by from From light medium brown to jet black! I just bought this to match my natural hair color. The worker matched a strand of my natural hair color. And I went with it. I get home apply it and end up with jet black. So now half of my head is light medium brown and the other emo 2008 black hair. Just WOW! Worse 6 dollars I have ever spent but I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I won’t bother asking the employees for help because obviously they’re not professionals or know anything. Super upset.

I am having trouble ordering the only product I buy. Ion color 5nn

Asked by: LINNEA Nee
Best advice is to either see if it is listed on their website, or call your local Sally Beauty store & ask rep if it is available or if they can order it for you

What exactly does the NN stand for please on the 8NN hair color?

Asked by: Janran13
It’s if you have resistant grey, it’s for extra grey coverage. If you’re just coloring and you have little to no grey then you do not need the NN series.

I have very dark brown hair and am looking to cover the gray that is taking over! What should I look for in a hair color

Asked by: Jajo2018
I had very dark brown and would recommend 6nn. Any lower number will make your hair too dark.

So, the direction on the paper inside the 7nn say 'shampoo' after coloring process. I really think this is weird (and I realize it says 'appropriate shampoo'.) Please advise.

Asked by: Ann D Brown
Once the dye is done developing get in the shower as normal. Rinse your hair with water to get most of the dye out then use your normal shampoo and conditioner.
