  • 1:1 mixing ratio. Two ounces of color to two ounces of 10, 20, 30 or 40 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer. High Lift Blonde series is mixed 1:2 ratio: Two ounces of color to 4 ounces of 30 or 40 Volume Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps: Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair • Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head • Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather • Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps: Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair • Apply mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather • Rinse until the water runs clear.

Other tips: Always perform a strand and patch test • It is often not necessary to refresh the ends of the hair on every permanent hair color touch-up application • For resistant gray, use 20 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp® Creme Developer and apply to gray area first • Apply a stain barrier cream around the hairline prior to application when using dark shades • Choose a lighter shade than desired if you are unsure of which shade to use or if you have very few gray hairs • Use an old towel to protect your clothing

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Darker than wanted I have been coloring my hair light blond for several years. Decided to try this Ion product. Went with light blond and my hair is now light brown. The pros is that my hair felt nice afterwards and it smells good, but I'm definitely going back to my old product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wanted it to work but very disappointed So thick I could barely squeeze it out of the tube and horrible to mix with the developer. It did not cover the gray outgrowth so I returned the order and will go back to Wella Color Charm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product I literally went to Sally’s and bought this line of hair color today, I went from a blonde to a redhead with the light blonde burgundy with a developer 10. They have so many colors to chose from also. My hair feels really nice and it didn’t damage it at all.

What is the best products to get and use to achieve the blondest platinum color possible

Asked by: Babygirl7107
I am on the darker tones, so I can't help with that one, but I do find that mixing 2 different colors gives more depth & achieves a more natural look. I believe that's important no matter what tones you are looking for.

Can I mix medium intense red with dark burgundy brown? I'm looking to go more cool toned red dark brown

Asked by: MrsJY331
I don’t think that’s a good idea. You might want consult a colorist.

Will the ion 5n pull red , that usually happens when I use light brown..only I usually use 6n

Asked by: Robyns57
Yes, 5n still carries the red pigment. The "n" means neutral, so it just calms the red pigment down. If you don't want red, get a color that has 5na. The "a" is ash pigment, which is green and in return cancels the red pigment. Hope this helps. Happy coloring.

I have a lot of gray, extremely curly dark browblack hair would like to make 1 shade lighter what can I use

Asked by: MerciOne
When I want to a just a little lighter and don't want to use full lightener I pick the color and use a 30 or 40 volume developer (depending on how porous your hair is) I recommend using Ion after color to close the shaft and heavy conditioning mask.

Can this be used to lighten previously lightened hair That was done over a month ago? My hair still has too much gold, almost orangey tones.

Asked by: BlueEyes24
Did you tone your hair first? A toner should have taken out the gold/orange.

Do I need developer with this product?

Asked by: Chelsea21
Yes. Use volume 10 if you just want to deposit color, and if you have dark hair and want a more vibrant color, try using a 20vol. I wouldn't recommend 30vol.
