  • 1:1 mixing ratio. Two ounces of color to two ounces of 10, 20, 30 or 40 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp Creme Developer. High Lift Blonde series is mixed 1:2 ratio: Two ounces of color to 4 ounces of 30 or 40 Volume Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer. Bowl and brush application is recommended. Always read the product packaging and inserts for complete directions, instructions, and warnings, and make sure to perform both the strand test and the patch test before applying your color.

If have never colored your hair and you want to change your current hair color or you have not colored in 3 months or longer follow these steps: Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair • Work gently through hair as you would a shampoo. Loosely pile hair on top of head • Process according to manufacturer’s directions. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather • Rinse until the water runs clear.

If you color your hair every 4-6 weeks with a shade of similar tone and level follow these steps: Make 1/4” partings throughout dry, unwashed hair • Apply mixture onto new growth area only, working from the front to the back of your head. Leave color on new growth area for 25 minutes. When processing time is complete, add a small amount of warm water to hair and work into lather • Rinse until the water runs clear.

Other tips: Always perform a strand and patch test • It is often not necessary to refresh the ends of the hair on every permanent hair color touch-up application • For resistant gray, use 20 Volume ion Sensitive Scalp® Creme Developer and apply to gray area first • Apply a stain barrier cream around the hairline prior to application when using dark shades • Choose a lighter shade than desired if you are unsure of which shade to use or if you have very few gray hairs • Use an old towel to protect your clothing

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Where's the "Brown"? Not really what I expected...compared to the other level 5 brunette shades, this one is lacking in depth and dimension. It really just looks orangey red. I bought it thinking it would be similar to 5WR (the mocha line), but with a bit more red, but it's nothing like it at all. Think "Ronald McDonald", and you've got the idea. If it's meant to be a red shade, they should take the word "brown" out of the name.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Black Friday shopping I love this product. But shopping on the website was a let down. My order was cancelled with no explanation. Which is discouraging since I had placed my order for the Black Friday sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Gave Me Excellent Results! ION gave my hair the look of salon coloring. I am not a licensed beautician but I found it very easy to work with .Now it is the only color I buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 3n=black I bought 3n and used 10 Vol developer over highlighted hair. My hair is naturally a level 5. The 3n is marketed as a dark brown, however it is nearly black in most lighting. I’d recommend going 1 to 2 shades lighter than you think if you’re going darker.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 6R Dark Red "Blonde" I usually use this to color my hair, and have never had any problems. However, I tried a new shade 6R Dark Red Blonde. It's not blonde at all! It's super dark, and violet based. Not blonde at all. For a level 6 it's really dark. I think next time I will try 7RC. Aside from this funky darker color, I do really like these products. I just think this shade name is misleading.
Date published: 2019-12-02
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed I used 7RR on my hair, and it was a beautiful color. Then, I washed my hair. The color on the new growth washed out after 1 wash; I had a few layers of red from previous color that the pigment grabbed onto, for a few more washed. I was surprised that the color washed out of my new growth in one wash, I'm a hair dresser and have never seen that happen before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 8N light blonde This color was darker than I thought. 8n light blonde is actually brown. If mixed with a blonde dye, it would probably be fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super vibrant colours I used a mixture of bright red and burgundy hair colour. I've always wanted bright red hair so after numerous box dye attempts and salon mishaps I gave this product a try, not thinking it would make much of a difference. Booooooooooy was I wrong. I paired these products with the 20 Blonde Brillance developer and left it for 40 minutes and it turned out beautifully. My hair is naturally dark brown, lightened to medium brown after the previous colouring I had done. Would DEFINITELY recommend to the darker haired people looking for dramatic colour

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I have naturally medium to dark brown hair that’s graying. I use this to lighten before applying a fuchsia color—no peroxide. But I’ve been blonde since I was 14. I’m 71 and I love Ion color!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 41R The product is fine but 41R intense red is more violet then red! (Used 20 developer but 10 does the same and leaves your hair healthier) I dyed my highlight for the second time, the first time I used 4RV which has more red tones in it. I added a photo with and without flash, hope this helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome consistent color! Everytime I went to a salon and made it clear that I did not want any gold...I always came out gold.To correct they would highlight with bleach and then tone. Any salon product would ruin my hair. I went to Sally's and was told to use a color with a B after the code...this meant it had a blue undertone...not a G for gold.My hair is beautiful and healthy..soft and shiney. I get compliments on the color all the time. I add a booster ..same brand and I always pre-condition and post condition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better results than $240 salon job! After decades of doing my own hair color, I went to a professional for some guidance, and some highlights to blend away my grays. I came away with too many yellowish, poorly toned highlights -- and a pocketbook that was $240 lighter and honestly, the tones did nothing for my skin tone. Ouch. After I allowed my hair to grow enough to ensure that it didn't break right at the scalp, I did more investigation and marched myself to Sally. I thought I needed to tone then color, but the wonderful sales associate told me that I should do color only with appropriate VOL developer. So, I bought Ion's medium ash blonde permanent color, sectioned off the hair at my scalp into four sections, mixed about 1/3 of the tube with 1.5 oz of 30 VOL developer, saturating only the roots. That processed for 15 minutes, THEN I mixed the rest of the tube with about 2 oz 20 VOL developer (I wish I had measured since I really want to help my fellow DIY'ers), saturated the rest of my hair, being sure to blend it well at the 30 VOL line, and processed for 20 more minutes. The results were an even-from-roots-to-ends, natural neutral light brown with plenty of striation from the existing bleached highlights (my hair is pretty porous from the over-processing, so I think the light brown will probably lighten a bit over the next few washings). I deep conditioned for 5 minutes and my hair is so soft and healthy-looking. *I almost took one star away because the mixture was lumpy even after mixing for a couple of minutes -- the color formulation needs to be fine-tuned to combine with the developer better. However, the results were far better than I expected.* My takeaway for you: The ash blondes will take care of your brassiness -- just be sure to buy the right developer and allow adequate time for the developer to do its thing ;)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible haircolor It was a horrible color, the guy there said to my friend and me the colors will look great, I should of known better he was not a hairdresser.. I had to spend $$$ at the hairdresser to make it look like it did before.

Can this be used to lighten previously lightened hair That was done over a month ago? My hair still has too much gold, almost orangey tones.

Asked by: BlueEyes24
If you mix it with a 30 volume developer I think it might work.

I want to get rid of my caramel highlights that were professionally done, but have heard that my hair may turn green if I do it myself. How can I do this without having weird looking hair?! My roots are a medium brown.

Asked by: AliPJolls
I’d use a Demi or semi permanent color if u want to keep your natural level and Avoid hot roots and use a neutral color... highlights oxidized the color out so u don’t need PERMANENT again or it will further damage the hair

What is the best developer to use with light intence red

Asked by: Celeste murdock
If your wanting to "deposit" more color on your hair then you would use a volume 20. If your wanting the color lighter (not as much deposited on your hair) then you would use a volume 40. Obviously a volume 30 is between the 2. Please remember that your roots generally grab more color.

Would mixing medium golden brown with medium red brown give me a nice chocolate color? I have dark brown hair with some highlights and olive complexion. Thank you

Asked by: Chocolate chipper
No. Red plus gold based browns make auburn. You need straight neutrals with maybe a hint of gold for sheen for a chocolate brown. No red.

I would like to switch from box color and have no clue about mixing professional products. What developer do I use?

Asked by: Mermandrea
Always use a 10 or 20 unless your lifting with bleach even then sometimes I use a 20 volume developer. You do not need a 30 volume developer with hair color as it only lifts two shades lighter anyways. Now if you plan on doing highlights then i would suggest you go to a professional. If your going darker or the color you already have start with the level like if you wanted a light brown I’d say go with a level 7 if you wanted a golden or neutral tone I’d said go with 7g, 7gn or 7NN

How much developer do I use with a box of ion dye 2.05 oz?

It’s equal to the size tube. In this case, you would use 2oz.

If I used 4N before & was too dark which should I use?  I have dark brown hair but coloring my greys with 4N looked black.

Asked by: Granny11
I would recommend using more developer or going down one color. You could alos thing about mixing 2 colors to get the desired color you want.
